I don't know what this dress is supposed to look like -- on the model it looks like a fit and flare, but in person it has no shape/waist whatsoever. It was also huge on me. If you want a waist, size down and you'll have to add the waist with a belt (but beware that the fabric may bunch where it's cinched in, b/c there's so much of it). If you want a shift dress leaning towards a mumu, then get your regular size and get ready to be extremely comfortable.

I've got an hourglass figure and generally require very structured, tailored clothes to avoid looking like a lumpy pillow. Nothing about this outfit should have worked on me, but it did and I'm in love with it. The fabric was way flimsier than I expected -- think of those tie-dye dresses you used to see at the mall, b/c that's basically what this is. But the waist provides some structure, and the full pants are elongating, making it incredibly flattering. There's not a lot of stretch to the fabric but it's cut so that it's pretty roomy everywhere but the waist. I go back and forth between sizes 4 and 6, and both the medium and small fit fine -- I went with the small b/c it fit best at the waist. Length was not an issue for me. I wore both S and M with flip flops and it did not drag on the ground. (I'm 5'6 with a high waist.) The back strap didn't cause too much consternation. I had to shorten my bra straps some, and pull up on my bra strap every now and again while wearing it, but overall it was fine. Man, I love this thing so much.

This might just be one of my all time favorite dresses -- not just from RTR, ever. The style is impeccable, and it's somehow both modest and incredibly sexy. It's fitted at the waist and the sheer sleeves cover up my arms, which admittedly aren't my favorite feature. The only issue for renters to consider is that the dress seems to have been in circulation for a while, and the delicate silk fabric (in both dresses I got) show some small nicks. It's nothing too noticeable unless (like me) you were looking to buy it. And I did end up buying It, nicks and all, because I loved it that much. Oh there was a little gaping around the chest (I do have a large chest) but the bow covers it up.

The dress looks more luxurious in person, with an intricate woven pattern that has a bit of sheen to it. The fabric swishes with the liner underneath to make a swishy noise that I liked. This dress has beautiful textured fabric, almost upholstery-like (which I think is awesome, but be warned if that's not your thing). The cut is interesting -- the bottom kind of balloons out, but unlike a peplum, it's hard to tell that the balloon is the dress and not your hips. I chalk much of that up to the size I got though -- I think it runs true to size, but I'm a bit between sizes right now, so it felt a little large to me. I wore this dress for everyday work via RTR Unlimited, so it wasn't very high stakes. If I'd gotten it for a big event I probably would have traded down a size to see if that fixed some of the ballooning I sensed. Overall, though, I love this line of dresses from Carmen Marc Valvo and I think if I got the sizing right, it would be an awesome piece.

I rented this dress to wear to my rehearsal dinner, and it was perfect. Several guests told me that it was very "Jackie O" which is exactly the look I was going for! Some reviewers have commented that the dress is not for curvy girls -- I consider myself curvy (32G bust, 27 inch waist, 38 inch hips) and I didn't have any issues with it being too tight in one place. The dress did run small, but the 4 was small everywhere, not just in the chest (though that was the tightest area for me). The 6 fit like a glove. There are all different kinds of curvy, of course, but for this one the dress worked well!

I rented this dress to wear after my wedding, in case I got exasperated with my wedding dress at the after party. I never ended up wearing it, which is too bad, as it is gorgeous dress. The lace is very intricate, but there were already a few pics in it (and I don't think it had ever been worn before -- the tags were still on). You definitely can't wear a normal bra with it, as the lace near the shoulders is shear and shows straps. I ordered sizes 4 and 6, and I tried both sizes with and without a strapless bustier. With the bustier, I could fit in the size 6 but it made my chest look huge (the neckline is pretty revealing). I could wear the size 4 without any bra, but then my chest looked a little saggy. With some better undergarments, I think the size 4 (my usual dress size) would have been a knockout. So, with some caution that the neckline is not very chaste, I think this would be a great dress for a bride at wedding showers, rehearsal dinners, etc.

I love, love, love this dress. I wore it to the dinner at which my (then-fiance's) parents were meeting my parents. The cut is very flattering for my body type (hourglass) -- it emphasized my waist while the pleats allowed me to actually eat without worrying about splitting the dress :). The best thing about the dress, though, is the fabric -- it's thick with a sheen and a texture that doesn't really come through in photos. I rented this for my wedding day when the original veil I purchased turned out not to work with the hairstyle I wanted. The veil itself -- the netting and the flowers -- seemed to be made from high quality materials, and nothing about it made it looked "rented." There was more netting than I expected, but I think that would have been fine. Ultimately I didn't wear it because the flower combined with my very large hair and busy dress was a little bit of overkill. I think this would look gorgeous with a more simple dress, and especially for a courthouse wedding.
