Pretty floral maxi for fall. Sheer!

I wore for a winery tour in November, with a leather jacket, tights, and ankle boots. Sheer but comes with a spaghetti strap navy slip. Fabric doesn't breathe well, so wear deodorant!

Great casual top. Flattering to stomach!

The elastic ruching around the stomach hides any flaws! Not a crop top. I wore with low rise boyfriend jeans. FYI there are metallic gold threads, which is not obvious in the photo.

Cute casual for baby shower

The fabric is cottony, which reads casual. Also may require ironing before wearing. The shoulder straps are quite wide, which made my broad shoulders look a little broader. Still liked this dress a lot!

Perfect for Bridal shower at Beach Restaurant

This dress is a neat mix: housewife-inspired skirt silhouette with sexy cutout top. The fabric was light enough to wear in 80-degree humid weather to a bridal shower at a beach bar on the Jersey Shore. The full skirt stayed down with no wardrobe malfunctions, despite strong ocean breezes. Paired with brown leather heeled sandals to make it more casual. Fit-wise, I have a prominent rib cage (bra size 34-36), so was worried about the side zip - it successfully zipped up, but only with help from my husband. Once zipped, the torso was snug but not uncomfortable, and I could eat/move around with no issues.

Sexy/form fitting, cover up for wedding ceremony then let loose for reception

Threw on a white leather moto jacket for the Catholic ceremony, but still felt a little revealing. Probably looks better with a bit more of a tan than I had, especially given the abdomen-baring keyhole. Good for dancing.

Cute & flirty jumpsuit, felt good in all day!

Rented for a summer bridal shower. The pastel blue color worked well with the shower color scheme, and there was enough print that I didn't appear to be wearing white (a faux pas for anyone besides the bride!). The cutout was fun & youthful, but the thick straps and voluminous cut of the wide leg pants made this jumpsuit appropriate/modest enough to wear around the bride's older relatives. The sash looks great tied either in the front or the back; tying a bow in the front sends a "cute" vibe, while tying in the back creates a more streamlined/chic look in front. I wore this with heeled sandals similar to those pictured on the model. The waist is definitely fitted, but I found it very true to size (I'm consistently a size 6, and this size 6 was not uncomfortable around the waist).

Perfect warm-weather daytime dress

Rented for a bachelorette party in Cape May, NJ. Pros: on a warm, 80 degree day full of outdoor events (brunch, winery visits), I found the cotton fabric to be very airy & breathable. The full, A-line shape was also quite forgiving & meant I could eat a full meal and still feel comfortable afterward. The cutouts are on-trend and allow you to show off toned shoulders. A previous reviewer said she felt the cutouts did not flatter her broad shoulders; however, I think it looked fine on my broad shoulders. Only 1 con: it is pretty short, and it becomes even shorter if you lift your arm to drape it around a friend's shoulders in a photo (best to keep your arms down!). I'm 5'5" and found the length to be just on the borderline of acceptable for my height. That said, I would definitely rent this again, perhaps next summer!

Pretty, Feminine, & Modest but Scratchy

I wore this to a Catholic church wedding with a somewhat conservative crowd, and found it to be very appropriate for the occasion. Pros: Rich, saturated colors photograph well. If an A or B cup, you can wear without a bra, because the dress is thickly lined from the bust down. The turtleneck and midi length work together to elongate your body. Cons: The lace around the armpits is unlined and scratchy - I just tried to ignore it, and was still able to wear it for 8 hours. The shape is very columnar, straight up & down, so it doesn't create a nice narrow waistline. The bodice is cut inward at the bust, which can expose some undesirable fleshy skin at the armpit. Fit: True to size. I am usually a 6 (sometimes 4), and I wore the 6 comfortably. The hips are a little narrow, so I did not fit into the size 4. Accessories: Because of the conservative length, this dress really looks best with heels to increase the sex appeal. I recommend open toe for a wedding, while closed toe or pointed toe heels will look very professional, office-y.

Feminine yet chic dress for professional event

Rented this for a masters program graduation with professors, grandparents, etc. Pros: the fluttering cap sleeve flatters wide shoulders, the tie at the waist hides any insecurities in the stomach region, the hem length is conservative but the slit keeps it modern, the floral print is much more mature and chic than most youthful florals, the waist is stretchy elastic. Cons: the elastic waist didn't hit exactly at my natural waist (my thinnest point), instead it hit about 1-2 inches below. Not a deal breaker, it just created more of a straight silhouette instead of nipped in at the waist. Runs 1 size large; I'm normally a 6, and I wore the 4. The 4 was perfect, did not pull or cling anywhere. I paired this with a white leather moto jacket and nude strappy heels like the ones on the model. Wished I owned this one, I could find many uses for this dress, very versatile.

Low cut, gaps, needs fashion tape, didn't wear

Rented to attend a friend's November wedding, but wore the DVF "Kendra Jumpsuit" instead. Pros: beautiful eyelash lace on the edge of the sleeves. Cropped sleeve length (hits middle of lower arm, equidistant from elbow & wrist) is flattering & avoids getting sleeve fabric caught in food/drink. Sleeves fitted but not tight. Deep V neck flattering with broad shoulders. Cons: Because V-neck is wrap-style, the front flap gaps open a lot, so fashion tape is not optional, not a suggestion - absolutely mandatory. I have been too conscious/worried about it all night, so I didn't wear. The whole torso from shoulder to hip is part of the wrap, and the front flap starts around the fly area of the pants - when you tie the flap closed, it creates a strange bulge and potential gap just above the crotch (evident in photo #1). The hips and thighs are narrow, were just a little too narrow for my athletic thighs, which caused pulling, so extra fabric gathered just above the butt (evident in photo #3).

Trendy modern coat, but not as striking without feathers

I rented this for an event during my bachelorette weekend in the fall in Philadelphia. It looked great over a black leather peplum top and over a white buttondown. The round neckline does not come up very high, so pair it with either a high necked blouse or a collared shirt - both will peek out nicely. Note that the coat color is white, so it doesn't pair ideally with ivory or cream colored tops. Unfortunately, RTR's version of this coat lacks the black feather trim on the bottom, which the retail version of this coat had. Without the feathers it's still a nice coat, with 2 bands of tweed in contrasting colors, but it's not nearly as striking or edgy. I still wore it, and liked it, but I won't rent it again. Cons: 1) The zipper pull and zipper teeth are big, bright gold and plasticky, which is a little cheap-looking. 2) The top white portion of the coat is clean-looking, but plain. As a result, this coat won't look very special in photos taken of just the shoulders up - you need a full body length photo to give the coat its due.

Jumpsuit perfection. Flattering, Comfortable.

Pros: This jumpsuit surprised me because it fit perfectly (size 6)! The placement of the crotch is often a problem on other jumpsuits, but this one was just right on my 5'5" frame. The pant legs were also a good length (another potential problem with jumpsuits) - the hem did not drag on the floor when I wore 3.5 inch heels. The eyelash lace at the neckline is gorgeous, and the boatneck flatters those people with wide shoulders. I have athletic muscular thighs, and luckily the hip & thigh area gave me enough room that I could sit comfortably, and when standing, the fabric was not pulling across that area. The keyhole back is unexpected & modern and freshens up the otherwise conservative design - wear your hair in an up-do for the most impact! In this jumpsuit, you'll receive quite a few compliments and yet you won't upstage the bride, nor scandalize any conservative grandparents. Cons: none. I would rent this again in a heartbeat.

Pretty dress for work/holiday events, unexpected metallic lining, a bit stiff

I really liked this dress, but did not end up wearing it for my event. I thought it was a bit too conservative/stuffy for a fun, college friend's wedding. Size: true to size. I am usually a 6, and the 6 fit me well all over. The waist of the dress wasn't as narrow as I would have liked - the dress might look better belted, if that's your style. Length: Hits just below the knee, so it is very appropriate for any function, not too short to be scandalous, but still short enough that you can dance. Fabric: stiff thick black lace over an equally stiff purple metallic jacquard (not obvious in RTR's stock photo on the model). The dress photographs really well because this subtle shiny underlayer catches the light, highlighting the chest area. The dress looks a little more flat in person, a little less flattering. The fabric is quite stiff & structured, so it doesn't drape or hang from the body gracefully like silk or thinner lace would. Details: The top half of the back has no lining, and it was my favorite part! Despite the little bit of skin shown under the black lace there, the dress still has an overall conservative look. The turtleneck is a nice height on the neck, but rubs the skin a little, and might be uncomfortable if worn for a few hours. Summary: Though it's not perfect, it's very pretty, and I will probably rent it again for a work or Christmas event in the future.

Beautiful, but "Regular" still too long!

I adore this dress. I tried it on at the RTR brick & mortar storefront in NYC, so I knew it would fit. Though a maxi, it was perfect for a casual summer wedding. The fabric was light enough to survive an outdoor ceremony at the end of May. My only complaint was the length - I am 5'5", and even with my highest 4+ inch heels on, the hem on the 6 Regular was too long. I had to pick up the dress to walk anywhere, and stairs were absolutely impossible. Not ideal for dancing at a wedding reception.

An edgy standout, but still mature

Worn for a relatively quiet New year's eve out in the Philadelphia suburbs. FIT: I am normally a 6 (sometimes a 4), and ordered an 8 as my backup after reading other reviews. I fit into both the Size 6 and Size 8 and was able to zip up both. But the Size 8 was more comfortable, especially after a large dinner! In the first photo, I am wearing the 6 (left) and my friend is wearing the 8 (right). You can see that the Size 6 pulls across the hips a little and pinches in the underarm region, while the 8 caused neither of those problems. The pencil skirt did not hug the legs on either size; the diameter of the leg opening at the bottom hem is really wide. The bodice is close-fitting, leaving little to no extra room in the chest region, so large-chested might not find this dress to their liking. STYLE: The dress has a very professional, mature silhouette, but the print panels on the sides are such a fun, trendy touch that I was able to wear this dress out for cocktails. The semi-plunge v-neck shows just a little shadow at the bust, hinting at cleavage without showing any. I found the print actually a little youthful up close, like a crazy motif you'd find on a garment at Urban Outfitters, but you can't detect this vibe from far away. And the way the panels are designed & sewn in is extremely flattering, so that makes up for the print!

Loved but didn't wear, too short!

Sassy, flattering, sexy. Perfect for a night out, or a dinner out with your significant other, but just not right for my occasion: a church wedding of a college friend. I am 5'5" and the skirt hem hit me at the upper thigh (similar to the model). Pros: The thick, soft material would be great for a fall occasion. The thickness of the material and the print also help hide a little tummy. The sleeves were flattering on my broad shoulders because they are a little longer than most "cap sleeves". Con: the shoulder cutouts caused the sleeve to ride up, which caused the black threads to bunch (see second photo). Very tight, runs small - I am normally a Small/Size 6, but ordered the Medium based on reviewers. The Medium did fit me, but with no room to spare. Will rent again for a date night with my fiancee.

The OMG WOW dress

This was a last-second replacement for a dress I originally ordered but came back to RTR from a previous customer damaged. I have never been happier with a Plan B in my life, because this dress is fabulous. It's very contemporary/modern/edgy/sleek/clean/minimalist, so if that is your aesthetic, this is the right dress for you. If you like Tibi, Topshop, Stella McCartney, or Solace London, you'll like this. The cutouts are risque, and it dips pretty low in the back, so only wear it to an event where you won't be hanging out with your parents or chatting up someone's grandma. I wore it to a college friend's wedding that wasn't technically "black tie" or "black tie optional", but the bride told me it was fancier, and the bridesmaids were going to wear floor-length dresses. The fabric is a medium-thick quality silk with some sheen to it, so it's definitely on the more formal side. Though I'm a true 6, I ordered an 8R because it's all that was left. I think the 6 would have fit just fine, because the 8 gave me some extra room in the hips. But luckily the 8 worked too. The dress is looser on top, especially the overlayer (the bra-like piece is a separate underlayer), so the 8 gapped a little on the sides. And the back dipped lower than the 6 would have (see 3rd photo). Lengthwise, the dress is cut slightly higher in front, with almost a little train in back. With heels on, the front of the 8R did not touch the ground, but the back dragged on the ground a bit. I just picked up the back as I walked, which you have to do in any maxi dress or skirt anyway. The bra-like piece is very minimal, and though it covered my B-cup chest, you can catch a glimpse of "under boob". I imagine it is best for small-chested women, and might not contain anything above a B cup.

Cool Piece

I added this to my order only because I needed to reach a certain total to use a coupon. It's really neat up-close, but doesn't make a huge statement from far away. A good conversation piece when you're sitting down at a table at a wedding, and people can have a closer look at it. Even my boyfriend thought it was cool when I took it out of the box. The white quartz stones & gold metal paired well with the mint green color of the Marchesa "Joplin Jumpsuit".

Gorgeous, but couldn't wear

I ordered a size 8L based on reviewers' comments early on, when not many people had reviewed yet. To summarize: a 5'5" woman said the 6R was too short with heels on. And the bodice looked tight around the tummy. So I went up one size from my normal 6, and ordered an 8. The 8 was PERFECT in the bodice. The 6 would have been too tight around the ribcage, and the 8 gave a nice drapey look to the top. However, since I'm 5'5", the 8L was WAY too long. Even with my highest 5 inch heels on, the bottom hem pooled around my feet and dragged across the floor. I could have safety-pinned that, though. The bigger problem was the crotch: the 8L is made longer THROUGHOUT, not just in the legs. So the crotch fell about 6 inches below my natural crotch (see 3rd photo). In hindsight, I think the 8R would have been perfect.

Trendy & Bold but Sophisticated. A Winner!

Runs large! Usually I am a size 6. Luckily I ordered a size 4 backup, and ended up wearing that. However, I would be curious to try on the 2, as I think that may have even fit as well, with a sexier bodycon fit. As it was, size 4 was a bit loose in the stomach and hips, but not noticeable by others. But I loved it! Wore it to a classy night out in Cape May during a friend's bachelorette weekend. The best part of this design is the colorblocking at the waist - VERY slimming. Looks best with hair down. Since the neckline and bodice aren't very detailed, you can wear your hair covering it and not worry. I tried it on initially with my hair in a bun, and didn't care for the look as much.

"You can tell this is an expensive dress"

Rented for a conservative Christian wedding in October - loved it, but ended up wearing Clover Canyon's Swan Print dress. My friend's first response to seeing this dress on me was, "You can tell this is an expensive dress." The skirt is a bit like a retro 60's pleated cheerleader skirt. But pretty! The box pleats are soft, not stiff like a tutu. They also don't add volume to your hips making you look thick. The first strap (closest to the neck) is cut very narrow, so it elongates the line of your neck & slenderizes. Only CON: Slightly large/roomy in the waist, but this made it comfortable. Tip: wear a strapless bra.

Can't stop wearing

Rented for attending a conservative Christian wedding in mid October. Attracted to the navy-bronze color scheme for fall. And the high neck, sleeves & non-form-fitting skirt was perfect for a church ceremony. This print is killer. The swans at the narrowest part of your waist is really flattering, as are the panels on the back of the dress. Had many strangers come up and compliment my dress, including one fashion-savvy woman who commented on how slimming it was. The print also photographs well on Instagram ;) Wore again 2 nights later to a casual dinner (topped with a leather moto jacket) with my boyfriend just to get one more use out of it. Only CON: the sleeves (especially the opening near the elbow) are tight and ride up slightly, so you might find yourself tugging them back down your arm repeatedly. Still happy I rented a Small. Also, if you're B-ish cup like me, you won't need to wear a bra!

Not the most flattering peplum I've ever worn

The peplum started a little higher than my natural waist, which made my torso appear shorter, stumpier. The waist was also a bit wide - not as figure-defining as I hoped it would be. The gold color is very muted, not the dramatic statement piece I had in mind for New Year's Eve. The arm straps also press into the skin a bit near the underarm. Not my favorite dress ever, but fairly true to size.

Small, Short, & Constricting

I am a 4/6, ordered a 6, and it was unwearable. Was too small across the shoulders for someone with broad shoulders, like myself. Also compressed my bust in an unflattering way. The bottom of the dress is an extra strip of fabric sort of like peplum, but the seam where it is attached kept riding up and would not rest below my rear, where it belonged. Strange tailoring that will likely look beautiful on someone with narrow shoulders, hips, & butt. If your body proportions are like mine, order your main size one up, and order your backup two sizes up!

Love! Feminine, Sassy

Rented for a college fraternity formal on a boat. Silky fabric was definitely formal enough, but the side cutouts made it a little flirty, perfect for the event. The cutouts are small and subtle though, and the neckline is not as low-cut as it looks in the photo; so if you want something super sexy, this is not the right dress for you. Runs a bit large, as reviewers have said. I went one size down for my backup size, and it fit perfectly (normally I wear a 6, but the 4 was better). The straps show off toned shoulders and arms, the ruched torso emphasizes a small waist, and the full skirt hides wide hips or large thighs. Fabric is thin and light, kept me cool despite 80+ degree heat at the beginning of the evening. Length was long enough that I didn't need to worry about bending over, but short enough to be sassy & classified as "mini". The twists on the straps become a little untwisted over time, but just a little and you can easily twirl them back.

Nope

Purchased for a college fraternity formal. Had to send back without wearing. The chest area was the problem for me. I have broad shoulders, and this dress made them look much broader. Because of the cross back, the straps start nearly at your armpits before meeting behind the neck. Also the breast cups are kind of triangular, and they point outward, toward the shoulders, extending past my body a little. Also, the cups are very structured and thick, which added extra bulk. Altogether a bad formula for looking wide on top! Colorwise, the purple is not as pastel as it appears in the photo. It's a little darker, which was not what I wanted. I am 5'5" 135 lbs with a thin, athletic build. I wear a size 4/6 and ordered a size 6. It zippered up fine and fit through the waist and hips, so order your typical size. My roommate tried this on, too and didn't like it. She is 5'6" 120 lbs with an athletic, lanky build. It just didn't show off anything she wanted to - like toned arms or long legs.
