Not true to size at all
I was surprised and disappointed because Derek Lam is my very favorite and consistent in sizing, but this dress was absolutely giant in the waist and bust, and also very long. I did my best to salvage the rental with a belt and fashion tape and wish I had read other reviews more closely and sized down. I do like the shape and linen texture and the pockets.

Close to perfect
Love this from the front without question—beautiful drape and heavy pleats, did not feel like it widened my waistline at all (I do have a short torso—everything looks right to me)—but in the back, the overhang of the top would not sit flat and was noticeably creased from the natural fold over of the fabric (see photo). This is emphasized by the white line and could not be permanently corrected in any way that I could find. Does not quite seem like steaming or ironing would fix, but it was not use anyway as I don’t notice until wearing the item. It did make me feel self conscious about my backside the rest of the day which unfortunate.

Visually so pretty, and shockingly unstructured in the best possible way—someone else described it as almost a sweatshirt feel which is amusing but accurate. I wore it straight from work to a museum with my kids, and it felt perfect in both scenarios to dress up jeans and flats without being pretentious.

Wow—this was more of a lovely stunner than I expected. No button gaping or coming undone, perfectly fitted at the waist, AND pockets. My husband even complimented the look which is high praise. Definitely plan to rent again!

Statement piece but easy
Voluminous without being overpowering even for someone with petite height like myself. I didn’t feel swallowed up although it was a long skirt. Fabric makes a swishy sound when you walk. Loved the pockets!

Skirt has no stretch in waist
Waist is not true to size and oddly does not stretch. Had to pull over my head and shimmy down to salvage the rental and wear, because it certainly wasn’t true to size or able to fit over my hips. Overall it was cute, but baffling design flaw.

Easy to dress up jeans. I found the collar to be itchy around my neck and quickly swapped the shirt I was wearing to be a little higher so I wouldn’t spend the day tugging, and never had another problem. Fit was very flattering.
