Beautiful, but the cut was all wrong for my frame.
If you have a short torso and/or a high waist, this dress won't work. Because of my short torso, the v-neck went far too deep and most of my chest was exposed; there was also an ample amount of the dreaded "bubbling" with the back zipper that is almost impossible to hide. The defined waist of the style means you can't pull it down to straighten it out and fix the issue. Ultimately I couldn't wear it, but my friend (who went with her original style that she'd rented) had a back-up style that worked much better. However, this dress is a beautiful color and the fabric is thick and supportive. On a different person, it would have been a dream.

So many compliments!
I'd picked this up at the NYC flagship store when the Herve Leger I'd rented for a wedding didn't fit properly, and I was very happy with it. I normally wear a 4 but, because the fabric has stretch, was able to make the 2 work and the material was still thick enough to smooth things out. If you have a short torso, it's easier to just forego the bra since the back comes slightly lower for us and the sides are still wide enough that there's not a huge sideboob concern. I did have a slight problem with the zipper: there's no hook or clasp at the top, so it kept trying to wiggle down. An artfully placed safety pin on the inside of the dress that goes under the slider helped keep it up, so I recommend trying that. Zipping up the neck is also almost impossible to do on your own without snagging your hair, so ask a friend to help. Overall, though, this was an amazing dress.

Understated elegance
When it arrived I was concerned it wouldn't be "enough," but it caught the light beautifully when I put it on. I did end up doing a quick polish with a dry cloth, just to spiff it up a bit, but it was definitely a great rental. I ended up wearing it all weekend! It paired nicely with a silk shirtdress for a friend's birthday brunch, looked beautiful at the event I rented it for (gala event for moot court, styled as pictured with the Cinq a Sept Teal Jolie dress), and even layered over a black turtleneck for a more professional brunch the next day. Honestly, I'd buy it if I could. It was just enough to catch the eye, not so much that IT wears YOU.
