Beautiful coat!

The coat is a lovely knit, with a cotton, herringbone liner. Very comfortable & warm for a chilly outdoor rehearsal dinner event. It does however, run quite large! I wore the size small but if I had ordered the XS would have worn that. I am also quite short, but I liked the length which hit about mid-calf for me.

Perfect for a cold Maine day of shopping!!

Ok, I didn't heed the input that this runs big. Listen up, this runs VERY BIG!!! Questionable if the XS would fit. I put a wide black stretch belt on & it worked. It looked great w/boots, wished it had been a true small.

No front closure but cozy and warm

EDIT: Changed review from 4 stars to 5 stars! Rented it again (and am wearing it as I type). This time, the pockets exist! Maybe last time the other pockets weren't meant to be sewn over, maybe the jacket arrived like that and RTR hadn't opened the pockets yet. Only thing now is I wish this had a front closure so I don't have to hold it closed as I walk. But it's soooo nice on a really cold day to feel like I'm still in bed wrapped in my quilt even as I am out and about. Very cozy, and I love how long the sleeves are. I'm very tall and usually medium-sized for jackets, but this "small" is quite large and fits great. Original review: I was shocked that the pockets were sown over and were fake; for outerwear made with such bulky material, I don't see why this is necessary in a fashion-sense...and it's certainly annoying in a practical sense. And it's too bad with such an overly large fit that there's no front closure, so I had to hold it closed every time I moved. But for all that complaining, this is a fantastically soft and cozy jacket (blanket?) for lounging around your home or office on a chilly day. It's also great (especially with the length) for walking outside on blustery cold days; it really stops the wind. (Again, the annoyance is just that you have to hold the jacket closed.) I ended up keeping this jacket for a week longer than I expected because it was so cozy and I just never wanted to send it away.

Love the pattern and great for winter, just runs a bit long for my petite body.

This coat is great for winter. It's warm and the style can be worn either during the day or night. The only downfall for me is that it runs a bit long for my 5'4" height so I had to wear this with high heels to make it look more balanced.

Probably my most favorite thing I don't own.

If I could live in this jacket I would. I was worried that it would be too baggy or maybe even too much fabric but it's perfect. Today I worn it as my winter coat with a tee shirt and some suede boots and felt that I still looked "put together." It's tight enough in the arms and short enough in the shoulders that I don't think it makes me look big. Words can't explain my love for this coat. If I had enough money to buy it out right I would.

Jacket was very well made.

The jacket is very well made and meant to have a large fit, but it runs at least a size big. I am 5'4" and it hit at mid-calf, but sleeves were long. I may try it again in an XS. As another reviewer stated, for some reason the pockets were sewn closed which was disappointing. There is no closure for the jacket either.

Very cute sweater/coat, but seems odd that it won't close at all (no button or zipper).

Runs large.

The coat was bigger than expected, but still looked good.

The jacket was comfortable, but difficult to wear and be productive. The sleeves were just long and big.

Good light wear on warm winter days.

I rented a gray and black sleeveless dress and paired it with a turtleneck and this coat. Nice combination.

I'm warm.

I love this coat. It's really warm but not too heavy. Everyone says it looks like I'm wearing a snuggie, but the jokes on them bc it's the first time I've been warm all season. I wish it had pockets or fastens, but it's very comfortable otherwise. I'm keeping it until it's warm outside again.

L.O.V.E

I LOVE this item. I could have worn it every day. I live in Wisconsin where it is COLD - and this was just the perfect piece to cuddle up in. I received so many compliments on it - can function as a jacket or a sweater over leggings. I am 5'3" and this hit mid-calf on me - longer than the model photo shows. Will be renting again - I would consider purchasing this in the future!

Warm like a coat.

This oversized sweater is nicely lined and is as warm and heavy as a coat. It is more of a cozy look than a crisp look. Was perfect for my trip to Minnesota where I wore it like a blanket everywhere I went. It is cold in Minnesota in the winter!

I wore an XS and it is a lot of fabric for someone my size. I loved the look and it was great quality and very warm but it would be better on a taller girl.

just a normal work day:)

A bit baggy and coaty so decide in advance if it's an indoor or outdoor look you are going for. I wore it inside all day with black boots and skinny Jeans. Should have gone to a small. If it had been an outside thing the Medium would have been ok

I can't help it - I love wearing blankets as outerwear!

Fit: Runs large and long - I am 5'1" and the bottom of the coat hit me mid/low calf. It is designed to be baggy, which is a style I like to wear despite my height and smaller frame. Fellow shorties who don't gravitate towards the oversized will probably feel over-powered and not like wearing this. Material: This material feels soft like a nice lived-in, wool blanket. Any breeze blows it open since there are no buttons but because it kept warm otherwise I didn't mind holding it closed when it was windy (I rented this at the end of February in New York City). Style: Without really planning, I ended up with a 90's look - I wore the coat with jeans, Doc Martens, a baggy black tshirt and a gray beanie hat.

Very cute but looks sort of like a bathrobe

This would definitely work for taller ladies - I am 5'3" and it felt a little long and frumpy. Still got compliments, but felt a little too much like a bathrobe for my taste.

This jacket is awesome! I love the Free People brand and it's very consistent with my style. The material of this jacket is awesome the only issue is that spring weather is coming and it's too warm to wear!

Awesome but not for everyone

I SO wanted this look to work. I think if you have broader shoulders this sweater gives you a bulky, homeless chic looked which FreePeople can fall into sometimes. I rocked it regardless because the print is so cool but keep in mind this makes you look 3x bigger than you are. It is also incredibly warm - almost too warm to a point that you cant wear anything but a t-shirt underneath it. Rent if you are going somewhere cold and use as your jacket!

LOVED THE LOOK!

Ok, so I love the look and the make and I love the overall jacket itself. The only problem I had was the jacket looked worn in some spots in the seams/hems, but other than that I didn't want to return it either.

Very warm, very oversized

Overall, the coat was very cute. I am relatively taller (5'9) and this coat was very long on me. The length fell at about mid calf, not above the knee as shown on the model. I wore 4" heeled booties which helped balance this. The edges were a little frayed, but not sure if that is intentional knowing Free People's aesthetic. Felt very Olsen twins-esque based on fit, but I did like the look. The coat is pretty heavy, so great for cool climates like Chicago.

Stylist Review!

A cozy and easy to pair coat by Free People. While it is meant to have an over-sized look, this knee length piece runs quite large and we do recommend sizing down. There is ample room in the arms, bust, waist, and hips. I have pretty wide wingspan and the arm length was long enough and covered my wrists. Great for fall or early winter. Wear it with a daytime outfit or for a casual night out.

This was HUGE!

I'm very familiar with Free People and own a lot of their clothing so I know they run large, but this was gigantic. I didn't end up wearing this and sent it right back. I don't think it helped that I'm so short either. It is a gorgeous sweater though, and was very thick and warm.

Nice

The coat is nice if you are tall. I am petite, so it looks huge on me. It is very thick, however, there is no button, so I feel like you cannot really wear it in the cold. It was shipped to me brand new, which is impressive. The material is very daily, not super soft.

This coat was cozy but did run large. I am in between a medium and small and the small was still a little big. Like others, I wish there would have been a front closure. Otherwise it was a great coat and I received compliments!

Coziest sweater ever!

I wore this sweater/coat for the holidays, and it was SO comfortable! I loved wrapping myself in it and it looked great, too. It is huge though! I usually wear a large and got this in L, and it was like a big drapey bathrobe, which was part of the reason why I loved it, but made it a bit awkward to wear. There are also no fasteners on the sweater, so you have to wear it open, which is why it makes a better sweater/coat than an actual coat.

Warm but BIG!

This is a nice warm sweater and the interesting pattern but neutral colors make it go with a lot of different outfits. However, it's HUUUUGE. After reading other reviews I went with a S (I'm generally between S/M) thinking that it would be a bit oversized and comfy. But no, it was just too big. Be bold and really order down!

I wore this to work and lounging on the weekend

The sweater is more like a coat. It is heavy, but beautifully lined on the inside. Great for fall. Its tough to wear in the winter because you would need to layer with an additional coat.

Warm, Cozy, Perfect

I rented this through Unlimited for my vacation to Ireland. I live in Florida and don't own any warm sweater coats, and this was PERFECT for my trip. It was so warm and cozy and right on trend (and acted as a perfect blanket/pillow for the flight!). It kept me warm and dry on the cold and drizzly Irish coast, and I love how it layered. If I lived in a colder climate I could definitely see owning this! It did run large - I'm usually a S, and the XS still had plenty of space, even in the shoulders.

Amazing Coat!

This jacket was amazing! I rented it for my vacation to New York over Thanksgiving and it was perfect. The coat went well with many different outfits and was very warm. I felt like I was wearing a cozy blanket. It definitely runs a little big so get a size down. I would highly recommend this!!
