I rented this dress to wear to a formal wedding. I'm 5'5 and 130 lbs, normally wear a size 4 or 6, and wore this dress in a size 6. Definitely couldn't have gone any smaller, the 6 fit well but was tight around my ribcage. The only thing I didn't love about this dress was that the back detail kind of made me feel like I was wearing a cape. But overall it's a very classy dress, great for an elegant event.

Overall, I liked this dress. Fit true to size for me. It was conservative enough for a family wedding but interesting enough that I didn't feel dowdy or boring. There's lots of structure in the bust and I didn't need to wear a bra. The color was a little darker than I expected and definitely purple, not blue. The dress is a little hard to put on (need to do hair and makeup AFTER putting on the dress) and the side zipper is a challenge -- I needed my husband's help. 

Snug-fit but lovely back detail and sturdy material. Would rent again

I loved this dress for a wedding I attended. The material was good quality and was really comfortable. I didn't particularly like the back cape part but otherwise it was perfect 

This dress is beautifully made and flattering. Runs a tad small- I initially ordered a 2 for a wedding but it was uncomfortable. Swapped it out for a size 4 and was much happier.  Normally I'd wear a 0-2. Zipper is a bit tricky. 

I wouldn't recommend for work- the back was a bit to revealing. But lovely for a cocktail event, wedding or date night. (Though my husband didn't love the "cape" or wings on the back of the dress) 

I am usually between an 8-10. Went with 10 based on reviews and size chart for this brand. Fit perfect. Received a lot of compliments and felt comfortable dancing all night. Material is thick and did not need to wear a bra.

This dress was so flattering! I received a ton of compliments and had no problem wearing it all night. Very comfortable and easy to move around in. My only complaint is that the zipper is difficult to get up but, other than that, loved it!

Overall I LOVED this dress but I'll start with the Cons; the zipper is oddly placed and true to other reviews, was a pain to pull up all the way. My husband had to help. I honestly don't think I could have worn this dress if I was flying solo to an event. 

On the Pro side; the color is stunning and the design with the open/cape back will catch eyes. I ordered this for my Rehearsal Dinner- I almost wish I wore it to my wedding!! I went a size up (usually size 10, went with a 12) and the overall fit was very comfortable. I was able to sit down for dinner without any pulling or tugging. I do have a large chest so the dress hugged just a little bit in that area.

Bottom Line, I am so happy with this beautiful dress. I recommend it for any formal occasion but just make sure you have extra hands nearby just in case. 


The dress was great and fit very well. I received all kinds of compliments on it. RTR sent me an additional package of dresses because the original order was delayed due to a mechanical error with the plane. RTR was so great to deal with and did not charge me for the additional package they sent. Timing was a little tight but it all worked out in the end.  

I’m usually a size 4 or 6 in dresses, but I wore an 8. This dress has very little stretch  and runs small. The material is thick and it’s lined so it’s hot (beware!). The dress is very flattering and I got lots of compliments.
For reference I’m 5’5 with an athletic build (big booty), 36DD, 150lbs. 
Now for the bad...the zipper on the garment bag I almost had to rip it open, it was seriously stuck (stressful!). The zipper on the dress itself also sucked and it took my husband and I 15 min (no joke) to work the zipper and get it up. Lastly, I could definitely tell the dress had been worn many times. There was obvious wear under the arms and down the side of the dress there was a little pulling. It wasn’t terrible but it didn’t look new like I expected. I’d rate it a 7/10 experience overall, it was good but there is room for RTR to improve.

So as many other reviewers described, the zipper is TERRIBLE. You will need a second, and maybe even a third set of hands, as it curves up the side of the dress.  You will need to twist a bit to get it zippered, and I would suggest going up a size to make it easier.  BUT, this dress made me look so thin and tall, I was obsessed.  Much longer than I would normally wear (hit me just below the knee, I'm 5") but it was sleek and sexy while still allowing me to dance and eat.  Fabric was tight enough that I didn't need a bra.

Great cocktail dress. The back is definitely a show stopper. Color is very different and pretty as well. Quality of the fabric is extremely nice. I felt very luxurious in this dress. 

I received so many compliments on this dress! It is a little on the tighter side, so dancing was difficult. 

I loved the dress and got many compliments! This was my first time wearing this dress length. The only thing that could have been better was the zipper. It kept trying stuck and my husband and I had to work pretty hard to zip it all the way up. The size up would have fit more comfortably in the chest, but way too big in the hips. 

For an 8, it was a bit snug. However, because of the snugness and good fabric quality, I needed no spanx! I wore a bra and wish I didn't. I wear 32DDD and NEVER not wear a bra. I thought I'd be self concious of them flopping around all night. Instead, (the racer back bra looked better than a strapless with this dress cut) my bra peaked out the entire time and I kept trying to push it back in. To my large chested ladies, go camo all the way with this one...it holds everything in place! I felt super sexy! And the cape and open back help draw away from other "imperfections" (belly pooch, etc). I will, one thousand percent, order this dress again! 

Runs a tad small in the waist/ribs, so I went up one size. I had a little room in the chest but it still fit. The back was subtle yet sexy and I received compliments all night. Great length for someone with longer legs. The material is thicker and holds everything in nicely.

My two other dress choices were a disaster fit on me. So Rent The Runway customer service came to save the day and chose this dress for me. Looked at it really quick on the phone and went with it in a size 6.

This dress was great! It was just a teeny bit snug on me but it didn't bug me at all. It was a simple dress but with a little pizazz with the upper back detail. Super comfortable too!

This dress fit perfectly.  I didn't have to wear a bra (a tough feat for a D cup) because of the thick material.  We debated whether the color is purple or navy blue-- no conclusion.  Like other reviews have said, the zipper is tough.  You just need to use force! I highly recommend this dress.

I listened to what others said in their reviews on here and decided to size up- I usually wear a 6/8 but went with a 10. The dress's zipper was a little bit of a challenge but once on it looked fantastic. I received a ton of compliments! This dress is a little more on the deep blue/purple side. 

I wore this dress to an awards ceremony where I was being honored and got just as many compliments on the dress as the award. The color is more purple than blue, but is really elegant. The dress is a bit snug but is very flattering for someone with curves. It is formal enough for a nice event, but the back detailing makes it still fun and youthful for a wedding or something like that. The zipper- as I had read on other reviews- is a bit difficult, but as long as you have someone who can help zip it up it's fine. I would definitely rent it again! 

This dress ran incredibly small (as previous reviewers have stated). I am a true 6, and this barely made it up over my hips and the zipper was not even close to zipping over my rib-cage. I absolutely loved the color and cut of this dress and hope to size up and try it again! 

The fabric and the style are very comfortable.

Being only 5'3'' I wish the dress was a little bit shorter, however I loved how the dress fit. I did not need a bra, and I was complimented all night on the dress. I did have to ask a friend to zip up the dress (since my fiancé was in the wedding and not able to help!!) as the zipper was very hard to do. I probably could have tried a 4 on instead of the 6. The 8 was extremely large on me.

This dress was perfect for a semiformal outdoor wedding in Texas. It was tasteful for being around my family, and still had some personality with the little cape and cutout in the back. Color was the rich purple I expected.

I was glad I'd read reviews that it runs small. I'm normally a solid 6 (occasionally a 4) and the 8 fit wonderfully -- tight enough up top that I didnt need a bra (34C) and straight-cut enough at the bottom that it didnt hug in weird ways. Zipper was finicky as others mentioned but I didn't have much problem with it.

Overall a wonderful experience to have the perfect dress waiting for me at my hotel. Thanks RTR!

Loved the dress, looked great but was a bit snug and didnt leave a lot of room for us chestier ladies so i went no bra. 

Great cut and it does run true to size in the body/torso. It does cut higher in the armpits that would run small for larger busted women. The zipper does take 2 people. Fabric is thick and has some give to it. 

I don't always go for form-fitting styles, but this one is extremely flattering, especially if you like showing off your back and booty. The fabric is thick and structured and easily smooths any flaws. It's also really sexy without showing too much skin. I felt fantastic in this dress and received many compliments - my hubby loved it too! The other reviews are true - it is purple, not blue, and the zipper is HORRIBLE. You will definitely need help getting into this one, but it's worth it!

I’m 5’11” and typically wear a M. This ran true to size, and was SO easy to wear. I wore it for my class ruinion, and received lots of compliments. It photographs well, and fits like a dream. You’ll love this one!

This dress was great for my friends rehearsal dinner! It fits really nicely but is definitely body conturing - if you fear tight, this might not be the best dress for you. The straps were a bit big for me so I was having to readjust and pull up the dress often but other than that, all was great!

The fit was perfect.  My only issue was with the zipper which stuck.  Otherwise it was quite comfortable to wear and I was able to move in it easily. 

I read the reviews, but I just didn't believe- but believe it- the zipper is a nightmare! The material is too thick and the zipper seems to small. My husband tried zipping me up and it just wouldn't go. I ended up having to take off the dress, zip it up and pull it on over my head. I almost didn't go to the wedding because I didn't think I could get it on over my head- be sure to not get your hair done before putting this thing on. It is true, the color is a very deep, almost purple color. Nice for the fall and the fabric is thick with some stretch. The 8 fit, but not pulled on over my head. Went with the 10 for that extra movement. Strapless bra worked just fine. 

This was my first RTR purchase and I'm kicking myself for waiting this long to do it! It was so easy and I had a knock out dress for much less than I would have paid in a department store. This dress was a great purple color and the cape made is super fun. I️ have a fairly large bust but got away with out wearing a bra. The dress was snug but in all the right places. Felt super sexy! Would totally  rent again! 

The color is way more vibrant than in pictures. I tried to play with the filter on this pic to make it more realistic, but its a really beautiful blue/purple. Got tons of compliments. It runs a little small. The 0 fit, but was too tight. I wore my back up size. I gave it only 4 stars bc the parricular dress that was sent to me was hell to get out of. Idk if it wasnt well made or if the dress had been a little worn out, but the zipper got caught and wouldn't budge. My husband had to literally tear it off. Thankfully that wardrobe malfunction didnt happen until the end of the night!

I wore this dress to a rehearsal dinner. It fit perfect and received tons of compliments. BUT YALL this zipper took 45 minutes and two people to get up and an additional 45 to get down! Not so great after a late night! While the dress was amazing, I'm not sure the pain of the zipper was worth it.

I wore the 8. Material is nice and thick and sturdy so you feel held in. Very cute back with cape! Happy with my choice.
