I wore this to a black-tie-optional gala, and I got so many compliments. It was also quite comfortable. As for the low neckline, I discovered there is a snap in the bust to make it less plunging. The dress is short, even on short legs like mine, so you also probably want to consider hose/tights for a more polished look.
