When your backup steals the show

I had this as a backup dress, but when the order arrived, I fell in LOVE with this. It's comfortable and hits the perfect note between formal and easygoing and sexy and professional. That's a tough place to get to, but this was the perfect choice for our awards show in Vegas. Some glitz but not too much glitz. Exactly what I was going for. If I had smaller boobs, I could have worn an 8, but the 10 did the trick with that element in mind.

Newseum Nights: In Bloom is a celebration of cherry blossom season in DC.

Very delicate but still made a statement. Really loved the contrast of the white and gold.

Rented this for Newseum Nights: In Bloom, a celebration of cherry blossom season in DC.

Really cute bag! It was larger than I thought it would be, but that was not a problem. It was actually a nice addition to the outfit I had to throw together last minute when my plan didn't work out the way I expected. It elevated the glam without having to sacrifice space.

I got this for the Newseum's In Bloom event last cherry blossom season. Wearing pink is recommended.

This did not work for me. Nope. Not even a little bit. I looked like the ambassador to some small, underrepresented country that hasn't caught up to the times yet. Don't get me wrong; it wasn't the dress's fault. It was mine. I'm short (5'2") and very large-breasted (DD). My shape gave the dress an odd dated look that I don't think would be the case for a taller woman with a smaller bust. I was disappointed because it's a beautiful color, excellent quality, and really looks great in the photos. Eh, you win some; you lose some.

Ovarian cancer research fundraiser featuring all women chefs and mixologists. <3

I loved this. The color of the cloth in the braided part is a bit more navy than black, but it's SOOOOOOO close. You can go with either. It would really pop on white. Random people at the event stopped me to ask me where I got it, and I, of course, advertised. I needed a "touch of teal" for the event, per the organizers, and this worked perfectly against a black dress, with the teal part really standing out. Love this and might have to hunt one down to buy.

Fundraising for ovarian cancer research by sampling women chefs and mixologists

This fit...weird. It may be because I'm 5'2" with DDs and a shorter torso. It may be because it's cut weird. The little ruffly part starts lower than I feel like it should, giving you a weird saddlebag effect on either hip (especially if you aren't wide-hipped enough to fill it out). I think the size might have been tricky, too, as I could have worn almost two sizes down from it if I didn't have booooooooobs for days. The top was tight while the rest of it was way too big. It's well-made and a cute style, though. Just not for me.

50 chefs and 8 mixologists--all women--meeting a fundraising goal for ovarian cancer research? Yes.

This clutch is tiny. I didn't take it with me because my iPhone 7 (not Plus!) wouldn't even fit in it. I tried wrenching it in every which way but had no luck. I should have read the reviews to see if I was alone. It's very pretty, though. Well made, lightweight. If you don't need your phone, it would be great.

This was my backup for Washington Post holiday party

So. Let's talk about boobs for a minute. I have them. DDs, to be exact. The way this looks in the photo? NOT the way it looks on my gigantos. This dress was my backup. It's adorable and when my first choice didn't work, I really had high hopes for this. In fact, it was a bit big in the waist (probably could have gone medium in the waist part), but in the end, it was too revealing for a work event. The neckline has two clasps that were struggling to stay closed over the girls. Even with them properly closed, the neck plunged too low for the party. If we're being honest, I looked BOMB in it (I don't say that often), but it was not the right occasion. I don't mind showing off dramatic cleavage, but I just couldn't do it for this party. There was no way to fit anything under it or I might have considered that. The length is good, and the material is comfortable. It moves well and doesn't feel like you're strapped into clothing (I value that in a dress). I actually sat around in it for about 20 minutes to see if I might change my mind about it because it really was quite flattering. I did not. However, I'm not above renting it again for something where the assets are more of...well...an asset. For a professional party, though? Nope.

Scored an invite to the Washington Post holiday party!

This is very pretty and relatively light for all the metal it contains. However, it's also a bit small. It fit an iPhone, a tiny ID holder (not a wallet), a tampon, and one key. These things were snug against one another, as the phone BARELY fit. If your phone has anything larger than a 4.7 inch display, it will not fit in this. That said, it looked great, and I was able to downsize my load to fit for the night. Not a big deal; just be prepared not to have anything extra with you.

I originally wanted to wear this to the Washington Post holiday party. Will rent for something else!

Well. So it didn't fit. I got a 12P and the backup in a larger size instead of a smaller size. It was way too big, but that turns out not to be RTR's problem. I knew I'd lost some weight, but it's happened so slowly I didn't imagine my dress size had already changed so much. The dress itself is beautiful, and the petite length was perfect (I'm 5'2" and struggle with tripping on long dresses so yay for this!). The cut and the fit would have been absolutely flattering on a short, very curvy, really big busted me if it had been at least one size (maybe 2) down from this. The material moves well, stretches but not in that cheap "stretched out of shape" way so this would fit bodies from no curves to full blown hourglass and everywhere in between with no problem. Really a genius design. I'd have looked into trading it out before the event if I'd had time, but my evil apartment building insisted it hadn't been delivered so I didn't even get a chance to pick it up until the day before and thanks to work, that was too late. Anyway, I'm actually pretty bummed I didn't get to wear it because it really is a stunning dress (I pulled it back with a clip like they do in dress shops just to see what it might look like if it had fit; there were INCHES of extra material). I'm now determined to find another party so I can rent it again in the right size. I'd even consider buying this because its classic cut and flattering fit will still look good for a long time to come. Really, truly a beautiful piece, and I'm very disappointed I didn't get to wear it. Hey, the up side is I'm down two dress sizes! Silver linings, right?
