This dress fits small, which is in line with my past experience with Herve Leger (I am a petite 00, and the XSR was tight on me). The black accents are incredibly flattering, and the white popped in a room filled with black tuxes. Received compliments from guys and gals. I wore 3 inch heels, and the hem just touched the floor.

Petite-friendly dress. I am a size p00 (by Banana Republic / Ann Taylor standards), and size 38 fits just right without being too body-conforming. I would suggest swapping out the RTR hanger when you get the dress: the shoulders on size 38 were too small for the RTR hanger and looked stretched out by the time the dress was delivered. I folded the dress in half and hung it by the waist on a different hanger for a few days and that helped restore the dress.

I was looking for a floor-length dress for a formal affair and was at first reluctant about the color and the print... but I am glad that I took the plunge. Love the graphics, and the blue was very sharp in person (and in photos). The modern design is a standout among routine floor length dresses. The upper part is a bit too large for my frame---which is expected, given that I am a petite 00---so I just tied the knot tighter at the back and went for a "ruched" look (i.e. my bow did not lie flat like the model's). FYI, I am 5'2", rented a 0R, and wore 3.5" heels. The length was just a bit too long (spilled onto the floor by half an inch), but not so long that I would trip over.

The top portion of the dress (the draping and the cross back) is beautiful and conceptually interesting. The dress hits just above the knees, which is pretty good given my petite size. The two problems I have are how long the straps are (make the bust part drop pretty low) and how big it made my hips look from the side and behind (the "gathered" and droopy part, where the zipper is in the picture). Given how long the top part is and how willowy the bottom part is, I would imagine a size 2 or 4 person getting away with a size 0 in this. FYI, I am 95/100 pounds and usually a petite size 00 or 0.

The material of the crepe is great. The bodice is also very supportive: the hidden elastic band inside the dress definitely held the dress up, even for a small-busted person like me. The hem of the dress hits mid-low thigh for me and is a good length for my height. My main grievance with the dress, however, is the awkward draping on both sides of the hips, which is not so obvious from the pictures. In the end I FYI, I am around 95/100 pounds and usually a petite size 00 or 0.

This dress in XSR is 150 cm / 59 inches long. As with most Helmut Lang, it is cut slim and looks the best Like the other reviewer, I am 5'2" and with a pair of 3" heels, the hem ever so lightly brushes against the floor (very elegant, just the perfect floor length). The slit back is a great detail: from the side, the bottom edge of the slit creates a subtle drape. And unlike the photo, the front slit does not cut as high as it looks (it hit an inch above the knee for me, in heels). I felt great in this dress and will definitely rent it again for the next black tie occasion.

I rented this dress in a XS as the back-up option for a semi-formal party. Gorgeous color in person... BUT it was so small! Given that I am a petite 00, it's usually a godsend for me if other reviewers say that the dress fits small (i.e. higher probability that I could fill the dress). Not this one. I could hardly zip the dress up, and when I did (with the help of a friend), I could hardly breathe. Will try the S next time.
