Back-up gown for my back-up gal pal
I rented this as a backup because I was pretty sure the dress I wanted wouldn't fit, but it did. Fortunately, my friend was invited to the same Mardi Gras Ball at the last minute (just hours before), so I offered it to her. So glad it didn't go to waste! Hello, Orleans Gown at Mardi Gras!!! She is 5'2 and about 140 lbs. She normally wears a 10 in dresses, 12 in pants. This was an 8, but I explained in the least offensive way that I'd seen that a lot of pregnant women had worn it. The dress fit perfectly. It's all very flowy except for that cinch in the middle. It was a little tough to get the zipper up (she's thickest in her waist), but it all worked out. She did not wear a bra, but had boob tape or glue or whatever that is. She wore 3 inch heels and it was still a little long (she is also incredibly short, remember). The material is very thin. It was a very cold night, and she was miserable while waiting for our rides. Other than that, it was great for dancing with 12,000 people for 8 hours.

So I normally wear a 6 or an 8 in dresses. I've been more on the 8's lately (that extra 5 lbs you get in the winter), and I was concerned because I could only order this in a 4, 6, or 10. The 6 would have worked, but just for kicks, I tried on the 4 and it was PERFECT. The 6 left just a little too much room in the sleeves so that there was a strange gape on my armpit. But the 4 was just right. I wore it with sneakers, because I didn't have time to go shoe shopping, and everyone ends up in flats anyway. The dress just kissed the ground on me. Honestly, I think anything more than a 2 inch heel would have made the dress look too short. It's also very light, which surprised me. Even though it's form-fitting and has spandex, there's no need for shapewear. Very forgiving. The drape on the back is beautiful. I didn't wear a bra, but I could have gotten away with it.
