Elizabeth and James has become my go-to designer.
I rented this for a blue themed party at an art gallery. E&J tends to run small, but it fit perfectly. I loved it, my date loved it, random people we came into contact with throughout the night loved it. The color is bright, but not overpowering. It's definitely short, but I didn't feel like I needed to readjust it all night. And it's just overall super flattering.

Surprisingly lightweight!
It stayed in place all night, didn't have to be adjusted once. I was expecting it to be way heavier, but I barely noticed it was there.

Literally every person I talked to complimented me on this dress.
I felt extra cool all night. The neckline and back combination makes it more interesting than your typical party dress. It's got enough subtle sparkle to catch people's eyes from across the room. The only issues I had were: the hem kept riding up and the mid-back clasp dug into my skin. But these were minor compared to how great the rest of it was. I rented this with another dress for my birthday weekend and there was a problem with my discount code- it wouldn't go through on the app. I wasn't thrilled with the customer service (they told me what I already knew and didn't address the error message I was getting, despite me attaching three screenshots of the combined information). Eventually I figured it out myself by putting the code in on the computer (it wouldn't work on the app or on mobile), but too much time had gone by to get what I wanted in time and I ended up paying more than what I saved with the discount in shipping. They said I should have called.

Loved it so much I hunted it down on eBay and bought it.
Seriously. I did not want to take this dress off. It's extremely flattering and comfortable. The cutout hits at just the right place, the color blocking is perfect, and the length and neckline balance nicely with the tightness, cutout, and slit, to make it classily sexy. I rented this for a White House Correspondents Dinner after party, and it was great for a DC elegant club affair. After I sent it back, I looked for it for weeks on eBay until someone was finally selling it for under $300 and jumped on it! I've worn it twice since then. It does run small (this entire brand does), so I got a 4 instead of a 0 or 2, and it fir perfectly. I'm fairly petite, so I didn't need to wear a bra with it, but it would work with a strapless or racerback if you need/want it.

Not great.
Like many other reviewers, I found the fit to be quite strange. The top was huge (I mean huge) and the bottom was tight. The next size down wasn't available for the dates needed, but even if I'd gotten it smaller in order to make the top fit, the bottom half would have been way too small. It might work on someone with no hips at all and a very large chest. I wore a padded pushup bra, and it was still gapping pretty badly. I also had to keep pulling it down all night, because the bottom half constantly rode up. As my event was out of town, I wore it because I had no other options at the time. The color is great and the thigh slit is super sexy, I just wish it had fit. Paired with white and black heels, a vintage floral purse, and black pearls.

This necklace is perfect.
Rented this for a formal evening at a conference. Even if I hadn't gotten bunches of compliments, it wouldn't have mattered. I felt so beautiful in it. It lays perfectly, and is adjustable for your desired length. It's not too heavy. The multiple strands of pearls stay where they're supposed to. I paired it with drop earrings and pearl studs. I've included the full length picture to show how great the necklace's proportions are (spoiler alert: they're perfect).

This wasn't my first (or second or third) choice. When what I wanted wasn't available, RTR emailed and asked for other options I might be interested in. When none of those were available and the deadline for my out of town event was quickly approaching, they looked through my hearts and preferences (along with the dress I'd ordered) and sent this one as something they thought I might like. They did such a wonderful job! It was big, but my wrists are tiny so I expect that out of every bracelet. It ended up being just right for the wedding.

The color and fabric are gorgeous, as is the neckline. It's an extremely flattering dress. I'm super pale, so it's easy for a color to overwhelm my skin (especially with my silver hair), but the color was beautiful. I got tons of compliments all night. Definitely want to rent it again.

Pretty and comfortable, got tons of compliments working backstage at the Kennedy Center.
I was working a formal Gala at the Kennedy Center, so I need something gorgeous and comfy. Everyone loved this dress! The fit was strange, though. I ordered a 4R (I'm usually a 4) and a 2L, since a lot of the reviews said it runs short. It definitely did.- it only came down to the tops of my ankles. Additionally, the top on the 4 was gigantic. I'm a 34A, and it came down entirely below my bust. Luckily, the 2 was stretchy enough to fit over my hips, and the length was just about right (started the evening out in 4in heels and ended it in flats; both worked). I still had to tape the top to prevent being exposed, though. Overall, it was very comfortable, and so pretty. The back is stunning!

The hem and color were perfect for the venue and event. I found it fit true to size (but perhaps a bit on the snug side, so maybe order a size up as your second dress option). The fabric moves beautifully and catches light like a dream. The only issue I found was that the hem is extremely fragile. The first one RTR sent me was badly torn, they overnighted me another (thumbs up for the customer service), which was also torn. I wore it anyway and no one noticed, but please do be aware that this seems to be a structural issue with these gowns overall rather than a lone incident.
