Runs really big

The 2 wasn't available so I got a 0 and a 4. Am 5'8", 123 lbs, 34A and the 4 was much too large, the shoulder seams hung down my arms not on my shoulders, it was too loose everywhere, and was a more conservative fit because the slit wasn't visible at all in the 4. The 0 (which I wore) was too large in the chest and tighter across the hips and stomach. I had to wear a super padded push-up bra to fill out the 0 on top and a wool slip (like full length from shoulders to mid thigh) to fill out the body so I didn't have odd draping of excess fabric at my waist--to be clear in the photo I'm basically wearing a dress under the dress to fill it out. Really disliked the slits in the sleeves, kept worrying they were going to dip into food, and as others noted, the fabric does wrinkle quickly when sitting. The fabric is quite stretchy in case you're worried about being between sizes. As I don't like or own loud prints, was really glad I was able to find an inexpensive rental here for an animal print themed party.

nice dress, cheap fabric

5'8", 34A, and the 4R fit well, snug but lay flat everywhere, I think a 2R would have been too small. The length was perfect for 1 1/2 inch heels so that feet were covered but could easily walk without tripping. I had rented this and the Leona gown as well, and decided to wear the Leona to the event instead of this dress as I was disappointed in the quality of the fabric. The cut of the dress is fine--but the fabric is pretty cheap quality polyester--it felt like a prom dress--not like a gown for a professional woman. Last year I had rented a similar gown (also black and with cut outs), the Slate & Willow Black Cut Twirl Gown, and I'd recommend that over this dress. Similar style, but much higher quality dress.

Classic

5'8", and narrow chest (34A), the 2R was barely long enough barefoot, while other 2R rent the runway gowns have been plenty long enough--wish lengths were standardized. I wore 1 1/2 inch heels and had to bend at the knee slightly to bring the hem down for pictures. Wish I had rented a 2L instead. The dress stood out at the back, I had to tug it down every few minutes to keep it lying flat (it did this in the 2R and in the 4R, which was too large in the chest for me). A larger, more barrel chested rib cage would have filled the top so it wouldn't have stood out. Adding cups or a bra didn't smooth out the back, the flaps still stood up. The dress is beautiful--love its simplicity--but not the most comfortable. The bottom is so narrow, even through the shins, it really restricted my stride, I was stuck taking super tiny cartoon-ish steps--if I owned the dress, I'd have a seamstress cut a slit up one side.

Ok back-up

I'm 5'8", 122 lbs, and 34A, and the 2L was too big, but RTR doesn't offer 0L sizes. The length, with 2" heels was ok, though for closer ballroom dancing was a little bit too long and kept getting in the way. It was too big in the waist and chest (as other reviewers have commented), a push-up bra wasn't sufficient to fill out the dress as the whole upper body is cut for someone with a much wider rib cage, not just larger bust. Unlike other rentals, this didn't travel very well, it arrived very wrinkled, so make sure you have time to iron before your event--but lucky it didn't wrinkle during the event from sitting. During the day the color looks quite green, but in evening event lighting it looks like dark teal, falling more into blue. The cut out in the front was fun, and the fabric was a little stiff, but fluid, so it swayed elegantly while dancing and walking. This was a last minute back-up, as RTR wasn't able to deliver my dress.

Super elegant!

5'8", 123 lbs, 34A and the XS fit great--hit right at the knee, perfect fit through the shoulders, didn't even bother trying on the S to compare. What an elegant dress! Super heavy, fluid fabric--too thick for a hot summer day, but warm enough for late spring/early fall. Wore it with nude flats for a more casual look, but it looked great with nude, pointed toe heels as well. Would never rent at full price, but for $65 I'm super pleased and will likely rent again.

Great dress for dancing!

Natural waist 27" and hips 37". Wore this to a Christmas Gala in DC. While I ordered both 0 and 2 in Long, I don't think I received Long in either size (the tags didn't say 0L or 2L). At 5'8" I had to wear less than 1" heels for the dress to be the right length, in my originally planned 2.5" heels the dress was way off the floor and showed huge amounts of shoe, foot, and when walking, lots of ankle. While I fit into both the 0 and 2, I ended up wearing the 2. The 2 was a tiny bit lose, I had to wear a super padded bra to fill the top, but the fit was comfortable for an evening of dancing, I could easily raise my arms for spins, dips, etc. Loved that I was able to wear a normal bra, no issues with straps being seen. The 0, while sexier since it was snugger, but was cut for someone way shorter--the lower portion of the back opening hit me too high and dug into my ribs. The dress was lovely, nice fabric--looked great while standing, and the weight of the fabric and the slight flare below the knees--this dress was meant for moving and dancing! Got lots of compliments, would rent again, sad to see the dress go! Paired it with a longer ivory cashmere cardigan for dinner, didn't need a shawl for a Christmas gala--between the fabric itself and the inner liner, I was plenty warm.

Dress was professional and elegant.

At 5'8", 123 lbs, 37" across my hips (at the widest part), the S was a little large. I had nearly 2" extra fabric across my hips making me look larger than I am, it didn't hug me through the bottom half like I think it was supposed to. I had plenty of room for a wool slip. The arms were super loose, and I had to wear a super padded bra to fill the top. The XS was already rented out, so I wasn't able to compare sizing. There are so few options on RTR that fall into the "less is more" category--I don't like loud patterns or textures--that I'd rent this again. Would be great for a conference.
