Based on other reviews I ordered a size up. I'm a 4 most of the time and a 6 in some styles, the 6 was a little loose but looked great. The material has almost no stretch so if you are usually a 4 4 but sometimes a 6 go with the 6 if you are usually a 4 but sometimes a 2 go with the 4. I took this dress on a trip to Europe it traveled well

Runs small. I wear a small but ordered the large based on other reviews. The dress was comfortably snug. Easy to move and dance in. Wide straps stayed in place. To ease putting on step into the dress.

The dress is made of a semi-stretch material which provides a close fit without gaps. I'm consistently a size 4 and could have worn the 4 but liked the slightly looser but still fitted look of the 6. The one issue was connecting the strap across the back. This definitely requires the assistance of a 2nd person.
