This is a beautiful dress and I received many compliments. I am 5'5" and wore the size 6 with a medium heel. The dress was nearly touching the ground in the back. I don't know if I could have worn the short version but I did need to carry the skirt at times. My only negative about this dress is the fit of the top was a bit challenging for me. The straps are not adjustable and were too long for me by at least an inch. The black material of this dress is textured and heavily lined, but not stretchy. I am small busted and taped myself into the dress, but the way it is sewn made the lining and exterior material pull in a weird way that made the lining show. I don't know that anyone else noticed but it bothered me.

At 5'6", this dress fell below my knee. In the photos this dress appeared silver, but it's not silver. It's a periwinkle blue with metallic gold threads. It is a thick, but light weight fabric. When I tried it on, I recevied compliments, but I couldn't feel cute in this dress. It doesn't drape and didn't feel like it flattered my shape. It is possible I could have used a smaller size, which would have helped.
