I wore it without the buttons by choice but also didn't think they were tight on me if I had chosen to use them. The pattern is so subtle + is great under the sun! I also didn't wear a bra which is rare for me and felt great!

I'd say it's TTS but if you're between sizes I'd size up. I don't consider myself someone with very wide hips but it's a thick material and the bags did make it seem like I did if I didn't pull the dress down. Very comfortable otherwise.
