I wore this dress to a black tie birthday party and loved it. The dress was so comfortable and easy to wear. No Spanx needed! Because of the front and the back of the dress, I was unable to wear a bra. The front is relatively covering, although if you have a larger chest, you may not feel entirely comfortable because the dress provided just enough coverage that I felt ok. Fair warning - the back of the dress at the top where it clasps came apart twice during the night: once in the car (just riding normally) and once while I was dancing. Luckily I had a friend who was able to put me back together quickly. Overall, though, I would rent again!
