I went with a M, and it's kind of...shapeless on me. I think a size down would have worked better. It's a perfectly nice dress, and the details are pretty, but I wouldn't deviate from my usual size next time.

These definitely run big; I bounce between a 4 and a 6, and the 4s were a little large on me. I have proportionately narrow hips (or a wide waist, if I'm being a pessimist), so I didn't have the waist gap other reviewers noticed. The pockets stick out slightly, even though I had some room in these pants, which really messes with the line (if you get a pair with pockets sewn shut, leave them that way!). They are super comfy and work-appropriate.
