I rented this for a black tie optional wedding. 5'3" 165 36DD LR wasn't available so I wore LL which was a tad long even in 3in heels. I would've preferred the part behind the neck to be a little tighter but I felt safe and secure all night. Got MR as a backup and I think that would've been a great option as well. I was worried it may start to feel a little snug around the middle after a night of eating/drinking so I went with the LL to be safe. I did not wear a bra or need tape or anything.

Loved this dress--very light and comfy for being outside on a hot day. I wore it walking around Spain during a heat wave and was very comfortable. Only downside is it does show sweat easily so I had dark spots on my chest and back where my crossbody bag sat.

I wasn't able to wear this because it wouldn't zip once it got to my chest. I'd suggest renting one size up. I'm 5'3", 165, 36DD usually a 10/12. The 10 zipped and fit fine until I got to the top.
