At 156, 5'8", the L was a good fit. The top blouses loosely, while the bottom is more fitted. Its ruching/draping needs correcting from time to time or it droops, but it is unusual and flattering. The shoulder pads didn't phase me. Like others, I used a belt at the waist to help visually break up the top from bottom. I didn't have a necklace that worked, but in person the ruching is decorative on its own. I wore the dress to work with heels and then to dinner with boots-- the dress worked well at both (but looked better with the heels). The fabric thickness, the sleeves, and deep red color were all lovely for winter. I would rent it again!

I rented this for an occasion that changed last minute, so I wore the dress to work instead. I added a burgundy belt and shoes because I felt too ghostly with just off white! I received several compliments, which doesn't often happen at work. I'm pretty tall, but the length was ok by an inch. The material is thick enough. Still, the skirt was almost, almost too tight--I'm over my profile weight in this picture, wearing 12s usually.
