Great for a bridal shower. Go for the smaller size.

This was a great bridal shower dress for a bridesmaid. I am a pretty true-to-size 6, but the 4 was more flattering on me. The folds of this dress help to cover up midsection problem areas, so it's great if that's a problem area. I'm only 5'1", but didn't feel like the dress was too long-- I actually really like where it fell at the knee (sorry, pic doesn't show it). It was form-fitting, so the longer length doesn't make it look frumpy. Order a size down and try the smaller size on! I tried on the 6 first and it fit fine, so I almost didn't try on the 4... But I liked the 4 so much better when I did!

I've rented a lot of RTR and this is 100% my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I'm spending the $300+ to buy it!

I wore this for a rehearsal dinner and then out. It is hands-down the BEST thing I've ever rented from RTR (and I've rented LOTS), and here's why: -COMFORTABLE. It's comfortable. You can wear a regular bra and it's shorts-- with pockets! There's no need for Spanx. It gives in all the right places, so no Spanx are required. -IT MAKES CURVY GIRLS LOOK AMAZING. I'm not someone who would ever say that a shorts outfit was their favorite. I'm more of a dress person. I'm pear-shaped and bigger on the bottom and shorts usually just make my bottom look bigger. The leg hole openings are big enough for thicker thighs and don't "smoosh" them in. The defined waist creates an hourglass figure (I don't have much of a waist, so that's a feat). I'm short too, so I found it great that the shorts didn't overwhelm my short legs. -IT'S CLASSIC, BUT STYLISH. Rompers are definitely "in," but the black lace keeps it classic and classy, so I didn't think twice about putting it on for a rehearsal dinner. I felt SO good in this. You should only not rent this dress if you don't want to be bothered with compliments (and a few head turns). I love it so much that I'll now be purchasing it for full price.

A bit too big to feel really cute.

I rented this for Diner en Blanc. I'm a pretty solid size 6, so when a size 4 back up was available, I thought I'd still be in good shape. The size 6 fit, but I think the size 4 would have given me a more tailored feeling. I contemplated wearing a different dress from my own closet as I didn't really feel good in the dress, but went with it anyway. I ended up feeling somewhat frumpy throughout the night and, therefore, didn't want to be in pictures (so don't have any to share- sorry!). I'm still rating the dress four stars because like it overall-- very classic design and easy to wear. Perhaps if I had rented for a christening or church or something of the sort, the 6 would have been sufficient. If the feeling you're going for is more stylish with maybe a tad of classic sexy, I'd recommend sizing down.

If you don't like compliments, don't rent this dress!

This dress is great! I wore to a Memorial Day weekend wedding and it was perfect-- great weight and color for late spring. I received compliments EVERYWHERE I went-- mall, gas station, Starbucks, so if you don't want to stand out and don't like compliments, this dress isn't for you! LENGTH: This dress is good for ladies on the shorter side. I'm 5'1" and the size 8 was above the knee on me and didn't overwhelm my short frame. If you're taller, you may find this dress too short. FIT: I'm usually a size 6, but I listened to reviews and sized up and the size 8 was perfect. My "problem area" is a bit of a "pooch" in the mid section and this dress was great at hiding it (as you would expect a fit and flair to be). COLOR: The color is a bit on the pastel side (maybe a tad darker than pastel). It definitely stands out in a crowd. HOW I WORE IT: I loved the trendy neckline and didn't want to cover it, so I went with statement chandelier earrings that were a mix of bronze, yellow, and turquoise. I paired with nude/ taupe-ish peeptoes. For undergarments, I found a strapless bra to be best. The dress is comfortable with a lot of give, so I didn't find the need for Spanx.

Good date night dress for cool spring night.

Comfort: Very comfortable dress. Material was the perfect thickness for a cool spring night in the low 50s. When it hit the 40s, I had to put on a coat. Fit: I'm 5'1" and 130 pounds and ordered the M and L. The L was too loose to be cute for a date night, so I went with the M. It is short and if it weren't a date night at a jazz club, I may have been uncomfortable with the length. Color: The color is darker than it appears on the model, but shows correctly on all the "real" review pictures. Other things to note: Maybe it's because the dresses sent to me were both quite worn in, had pilling, and very much looked "used," but the dress was more casual looking than I anticipated. That actually worked to my advantage as the jazz club we went to wasn't super dressy, but if I'd rented this for a more formal event, I would've been disappointed.

Cynthia Rowley is good for petites. Great dress. Lots of compliments.

FIT: From my experience, many designer dresses are made for those on the average to taller side and I'm always on the lookout for designers that look good on shorter women too. Cynthia Rowley is one of those. The waist is high enough that it doesn't make short girls look long in the torso and short(er) in the legs. COMFORT: Really comfortable. Has pockets-- always a plus. WHAT BRA TO WEAR: This could work with a normal bra (it's what I initially wore), but I felt like I was always having to push my bra straps in. The dress scoops in slightly in the shoulder/sleeve area (which I think is flattering) so after realizing that a normal bra might not work perfectly, I put on a racerback bra. This bra, however, showed slightly on the other side. I ultimately ended up wearing a strapless bra. If the dress came with the "strap snaps" that are sometimes on the undersides of dresses to keep bra straps in place, then a normal bra would be perfect.

If you're petite and pear-shaped, Shoshanna dresses are for you!

I wore this for my 33rd birthday brunch and LOVED it. I have worn Shoshanna dresses before and they are perfect for petite, pear-shaped women. I normally order a size 4 and a size 6, but RTR only had the size 6 available. I went with it and it worked well (there was still a little room), although I may have liked the 4 more as it may have cinched my waist a bit more. This was like every other Shoshanna dress I've ordered and wasn't too long on me and gave me some room at the bottom for my tummy and thighs. The colors are great. I had one statement stud earrings, so skipped a necklace and instead opted for a purple belt. The only full-body photos I have are mirror pictures from after brunch and a day party (I took them just to have something to show RTR folks considering ordering the dress!), so excuse the somewhat disheveled look... It's a great dress, I promise!

Cute dress, thick material.

I rented this for Valentine's Day, but did not end up wearing it. It was cute, but didn't fit as well as I'd like and didn't flatter me much. I sent it back and chose a dress in my closet.

I think it will be good...

One thing to note... If you're on the fence about buying it and you're about to place an order, just go ahead and buy it... Customer service at RTR is top-notch, so I'm not complaining- just sharing this information for your knowledge- the free shipping you get with PRO can't be retroactively placed on an order. So, go ahead and make the decision NOW to buy it-- not after you've already placed an order. I'm 12 days away from my birthday, but I haven't gotten information about my free birthday dress yet. I contacted customer service about it about a week ago and they said I'll get the email about a week or two before my birthday. We're under two weeks now, so hopefully it'll come soon!

Not forgiving in the midsection. Not worn.

I ordered this as a backup dress and I'm so happy the first dress fit because this did NOT work for me in a size 4. I thought that the midsection would be somewhat forgiving given the way it was made (seemingly criss-cross fabric), but it was not. My little tummy bulge stuck out. This may have possibly worked for me in a 6, but I'll never know- I doubt I'll ever try to order the dress again. I would put it on and take and post a picture, but I don't want to- it really looked THAT bad on me!

Perfect dress for a bridal shower. Looks great, but is very comfortable. Pockets are an added bonus!

BACKGROUND: I hosted a "purple and green" bridal shower for my cousin at a restaurant (I'm her MOH). Perfect dress for that. It was very comfortable so I was fine running around setting up decorations for the shower, but also super cute with a touch of fancy- the best of all worlds. I received tons of compliments. LENGTH: My biggest concern with renting a dress was that it would be too long as I'm only 5'1", but this dress was a great length- short enough to be cute, but long enough that I felt comfortable moving around and felt appropriate around my grandmother and other older attendees. SIZE: I ordered a 4 and a 2 as a backup. The 2 definitely would've been too small. The 4 fit perfectly. One thing to note- I am a small 34C- maybe bordering on a small 36C. When I put on one of my normal everyday bras that includes a little pushup and a little padding, it felt a bit snug in the chest area. I, therefore, ended up wearing one of my minimalist bras- zero push up or padding- and the dress fit great. THE ORDER: I was contacted by RTR the day before it arrived and notified that the backup size- 2- was damaged. They allowed me to pick another dress as a backup. The dress itself arrived in good condition for a rental. The lacy parts that hang off the dress looked a little "worn" and frayed, so it didn't look new- not that I completely expected it to. Wasn't a big deal to me and the dress still looked great.
