I suppose this could be dressed up or down, but honestly it felt pretty casual to me. Threw it on with a pair of wedges to walk around in Vegas during the day. It's not the most flattering thing that I've ever worn (a little loose in the bust area) but fits well at the waist and has pockets! I would say looks better with some kind of a heel. As a new Mom I wasn't sure I'd feel confident with the slit all the way up to Narnia, but I LOVED THIS DRESS. I got so many compliments and was stopped by several people asking where I got it. The slit is definitely high, but if you walk confidently and wear black high cut underwear you're good to go. The sexy slit is balanced by the modesty of the long sleeves and high neck. It pulls to the side in a 'wrap' kind of fashion. Between that fit and the pattern it's super flattering and hides any imperfections you might feel about your body. I wore high waisted / high cut spanx underwear and they were perfect for under this dress. I went to a club in Vegas and was able to dance and move without feeling like my goods were on display (which I was worried about from other reviews). I'd say if you're tempted by this dress (knowing that the slit is sky high) go for it. You won't regret it. Someday, I can't wait to tell my daughter that I wore this when she was just 8 months old :D (For reference, I am 5'4", 120lbs rectangle shape!)

The pattern makes this mini dress super fun! As other reviewers have said, the back buckle gives you a little bit of trouble, but if you have someone who's able to help you with it you can get it set right. Flattering through the waist and bust and loved the short length! Short but not too short! The straps on the shoulder may be a tad long, but nothing I felt bothered by. Would rent this again! The elastic waist in this dress makes this super comfortable! I originally ordered the 2 and it was too big because of this elastic waist. It was also a little large in the bust area. I am small chested but even knowing that it felt very roomy. Because of the pattern and velvet texture it's very flattering and great with hiding areas of the body you might feel uncomfortable with. I wore it without a bra which was a bonus too. The shoulder pads are definitely a look; I loved them but I can see how some may not. Great length and loved the long sleeves.
