I have always loved how Ulla Johnson fits, just perfection! I felt so gorgeous in this dress and will be renting again… maybe need to keep! This dress is a statement without being too much. Fits like a glove! 

Perfect fit for my perfect birthday dress.

Super unique - the back is open and ties which makes the top have an adjustable fit. I’m 5’3” and it was a little above ankle length on me! Super cute 

A little loose in the waist but the ties in the back helped adjust so it fit well- just had to steam out the layers first 

Loved how stylish this dress was. I got tons of compliments. It's thick so not great for travel. It was also a bit hard to steam so needs a good iron. Great dress. 

Loved this one. Good length. Because the back is open it was easy to tighten and get a personalized fit! 

I felt great in person but didn’t love how the dress photographed; felt like it added bulk. For what it’s worth! 

Pros: cute dress. Got the smallest size and it works for very petite women. The length is to mid calf. Great sleeves and detailing. 
Cons: borderline cultural appropriation of west African style. Mild faux pas. 

this dress is SO dynamic, from the perfect pattern on the fabric to the fun details on the dress (puff sleeves, asymmetrical bottom, tie back) I LOVE this dress! I have a little stomach pooch but when I tried on the dress I was not worried about how it hugged there, it looked great and I got a lot of compliments🤭

So flattering and comfortable. The compliments kept coming all night. I would highly recommend this dress for your next occasion. 

very comfortable to wear. It worked well because i dont' have a curvy figure and it provides the illusion of a waist.  the fabric was thick enough so I didn't have to wear a bra. You can adjust the fit in the bustline using the sash in the back. I received a lot of compliments at the wedding I attended. Ironing it was a little time-consuming but it was not that onerous. I wore it to a barbecue party as well so it works well to formal and informal affairs. 

This dress is awesome. Lots of compliments. The back is fun and easy to tie by yourself. Does not wrinkle a lot. Arms have stretchy bands 

Wore to a rehearsal dinner in New Orleans. 8 fit perfectly and is true to size (5’3 147lbs). Great pattern and a fun hemline, loved the puff sleeve and backless crisscross straps. Will definitely rent again!


I got so many compliments on this dress.  It fit exactly right but that also meant no room or stretch.  If you have a hourglass figure, it will hug you in all the right places.  The ruffles help and give it such a feminine flare.  Would wear it again. 

The auctioneer at the country themed gala I was attending loved my dress so much that she announced it into her microphone to all the guests. I’ve never had so many strangers stop me to tell me how much they loved my dress. It was comfortable and felt expensive. So many great details. Only caveats, it too me forever to steam it with the ruffles and handkerchief hem. It was pretty tight on my butt, but fit perfect everywhere else. 

Fits perfectly and it’s comfortable. Everyone loved the dress. I’m wearing size 14 🤍

Absolute beautiful! So sophisticated and the open back is gorgeous! Love the fabric although it needs to be ironed because it wrinkles easily in the shipping bag

I’m pear shaped and it was tight through the hips. Still a great fit. It ended up not working for the event I wanted. I was hoping to wear a boot, but I think it really needs a fun summer heel. Maybe if it’d been looser the boot look would have worked. Felt great in though. High quality. Fun material and print. 

Wore this to brunch, got several compliments. I did have to spend a bit of time ironing this before wearing, that was time consuming so for that reason I gave it 4 stars. 

Was very worried about how this would fit but it is true to size and the tie back allows you to tighten or loosen without losing figure! The back is stunning!

I wore this to a western themed cocktail party and received so many compliments. Took some time to iron but it was so worth it. I’d say this runs true to size.

This dress was so amazing I shed a tear returning it. I wore it to a graduation lunch and received so many compliments. It’s easy to adjust the top with the tie so you can really get it to fit how you need! So comfortable and the BEST quality. Cannot recommend enough. 

Fit perfectly and really liked the defined waist. Just be warned it takes awhile to steam / iron each or the panels so it lays nice. Great statement dress for a nice dinner out!

I just got back from Ghana and went crazy buying all kinds of textiles, dresses, tops and pants. I love how Ulla Johnson honors African prints and styles of the Motherland (minus the appropriation). I got so many compliments and a lot of people assumed that I bought this in Africa. I told them nope, it’s RTR! And if Ulla priced her dresses less expensively, I would buy this too…

I wore this dress to a “Business Casual” charity dinner. It was really pretty and the colors vibrant. The only reason that I didn’t give it 5 stars is because you can’t really wear a bra with it.

Wore to a fancier baby shower in Charleston. It was a hit and it very cute. I would say it runs a little small, i sized up. It is not stretchy and I would say the hip area is narrow.

Fits true to size. The length was a bit midi on my 5’4” frame, but I made it work with platform sandals. 

Adored this dress and would Definitely rent again! Got tons of compliments during the event and the following night at the wedding people were still complimenting me on the dress. Love the lace up back and it definitely ran big on me. I wore the size 0 and it was still quite roomy in the hips.  Love Ulla Johnson pieces!!

Wore this dress to a wedding, it was SO great. The back ties so you can make it tighter/looser if you want. The 10 was a little big, but with the ties it was fine! Very self conscious of my body after having babies, but the small peplum and layers on the dress covered everything. Would totally rent again!!

I wore this dress to a wedding. It was very comfortable, a good length and fun! The pattern of the dress is very unique and the sleeves as well as the lace up back add extra to it too! I received many compliments. 
The fabric is on the lighter side.
