I rented this for a Christmas party, and it was my first time using Rent The Runway. The dress is fitted on top so base your size on the top half of your body. So glad I grabbed the next size up as I am in between a 6-8 and the 8 fit perfectly. I added several gold bracelets and black and gold earrings to compliment the dress. I received lots of compliments and will be using Rent The Runway again!

This dress fits great & is flattering - the fabric is good quality and the metallic color can go either gold or silver. It has pockets! I wore it out for girls night on my birthday and will rent again for sure.

this dress was so easy and simple and chic! It's almost a brassy gold metallic tweed fabric, with a super easy fit- this is only fitted in the top area, so you're really going to want to size to your top half on this one! I would jazz this up with some really pretty accessories for some wow factor. Great for holiday parties! True to size and a great length- not too long and not too short.

This is a beautiful dress! It is more black and gold in person than the picture. It is a little longer than I expected as well as the material is very heavy!!

Fit perfectly and got lots of compliments. I thought it looked green and gold in the picture but it's black and gold. Still pretty though!

Black and gold sparkle were nice for a classic dress on NYE. Extra effort from my boyfriend was needed to help zip the back for the tight top... The zipper was alittle tough but we made it work. Size 6 fit pretty much the same but the skirt was longer so I went with the 4..

I loved this dress! I wore it to a holiday party. It fit perfectly. I am short so it was longer on me than the model. It hit right above my knee. It was also more low cut than I was expecting. I have a small chest and I barely fit into the top so something to keep in mind if you have a big chest. I would absolutely recommend this dress though.

The v neck part in the front was loose, so I had to use some duck tape to keep it in place. It also was longer than I expected.

Overall the dress itself was beautiful and it photographed very well. I am normally a size 0 but this dress was slightly loose in the midsection. A friend had to use two safety pins in the back seams to pull it tight. I also wore a push up bra to fill in the top. Otherwise, the dress would have been too loose on me. Still liked it and received plenty of compliments once it was pinned back.

To echo other reviewers, I wanted to first be very clear that the dress is black and gold, not a greenish tone like the picture implies. That being said, all of my pictures wound up looking more on the side of green than black. I ordered the 10, with an 8 as the backup size for my work holiday party. The 12 was not available, otherwise I would have followed the sizing notes saying to go a size up for a backup...but I'm glad that it wasn't available and I sized down! After trying on the 8 and 10, I opted for the 8 as I like the fitted look around my rib cage and waist. This did make it a little more snug on the chest than I would usually wear, but I'm larger chested. On a related note, I greatly appreciated the bra strap stays in the dress straps...definitely wide enough to wear a regular bra, but it's a great reassurance knowing my straps won't pop out. Lastly, the leggy model in the picture is not indicative of the length...if you're wanting a shorter dress, this isn't it. But if you're looking for something work or family appropriate, this will definitely fit the bill.

I rented this dress for a NYE gala. The dress fit great. I'm usually in between a size 8 and 10 but liked the way the 8 fit better. The only thing I didn't like was that the lining showed a little in the chest region, but I just had to pull the lining down from the bottom of the dress occasionally. I would definitely recommend this dress for a cocktail party. It was very comfortable.

The color and fabric was much more shimmery in person which was perfect for the holiday work event I was attending. The 4 was much too tight in the chest, perfect on the bottom. The 6 fit, but unfortunately someone had majorly stretched out the chest area, I had to keep pulling it up all night and it was baggy/extra fabric on the bottom. I think a non stretched out 6 would have been perfect.

The fit was perfect. I'm a true size 4 and this was perfect: not too tight, not too big. I have a small upper body but the dress was not boxy at all. You can eat and drink all night and still be comfortable.

I am always a fan of Shoshanna dresses. This dress was no different. It was a little big in the waste and through the hips (dress has pockets). My problem with most Shoshanna is the 2 fits except the bust area. I have a Y frame and on the busty side. Otherwise I could for sure size down in Shoshanna dresses. Overall, loved the dress.

I have a very small bust and this dress was roomy up top. Length was perfect!

Didn't sit flat on the chest. It looked pulled and not filled out all at the same time. Didn't have to wear a bra though and the length was good.

This dress is really cute and unique, but unfortunately it just didn't work for me. I rented a zero and a two, and the zero was definitely the right size. However, the neckline was too low-cut for the family event I was attending, and something about the dress made me look bigger. I will say that it's a good dress for taller ladies -- the skirt hit about two inches above my knee. The sparkly/metallic fabric is great for fall and the holiday season. I really wanted to like it, but ultimately decided to swap it out for another dress at the RTR showroom in Flatiron. As always, great customer service from RTR made the whole process totally painless, and I found a great dress to wear for my event.

I did have to try on the bigger size because it was really tight around the rib cage. Even though the bigger size fit perfect at the top, it also made the skirt longer and poof out more. I didn't like the way the bottom looked at all.

I didn't end up wearing this dress because it was too tight in the bust, but if it had been a little bigger there I would have loved it!

Really narrow chest area- good for those with smaller ribcages. It also felt awkwardly long and hit at/below my knee. Neither the 4 or the 6 fit, although none of the sizes of this dress would have fit. Would look best on narrow ribcage, very tall body types. Did not end up wearing to the event.

Wanted to love this dress! The fit is really odd - super loose in the waist and was *very* low cut for what appears to be a modest party dress in the model photo. As someone with a larger chest, not what I was looking for, nor wanting to be showing off for a conservative wedding ceremony.

I have a long torso so it hit me slightly above my natural waist but still looked cute!

This dress is gorgeous and so comfortable. I wish I could keep it! The neckline is low enough, but still allows for a great bra. Not too short on me - I was prepared to wear tights, but didn't need them.

This black and gold (as stated in other reviews) cocktail dress with thicker fabric is perfect for a winter evening event! It fit snugly in the bust with a fair, but not inappropriate amount of cleavage and slight looser through the hips. The length is longer than appears in the sample photo, for an average height person. Great first RTR experience!

The bust area was a bit too big for me even in the smallest size, however I received tons of compliments while wearing and and I really loved the pattern.

I wore this dress at 12 weeks pregnant when I wasn't quite showing yet, but still had a bit more weight than normal in my mid-section. I ordered a size up and ended up wearing the 8 (usually wear a 6) due to this extra weight. It fit well though and hid the area well, but it still felt a bit tight in the midsection. If I didn't have a small bump growing it probably would have been ok though! The 6 was way too tight for me though in the mid area, so I'd say it runs a bit small overall.

Fits like a glove, but actually gold (appears olive on computer screen). Extra points for pockets but the liner sticks out of the v-neck on one side. I paired with opaque black tights for a winter wedding--perfect for a chilly wet day in Philadelphia.

I ordered this dress for a wedding. I ordered 4 and 6 as a back up. 4 was a little tight so I didn't want to be in it for the entire wedding and feel uncomfortable so I tried on 6 and it fit much better. However, the zipper in the middle of the back came off so I could not wear it to the wedding. Wish they would check the dresses more thoroughly before sending them to the customers. Also the dresses (both 4 and 6) had a weird funky smell to them.

I originally orderd a different dress in two sizes that ended up not being able to coming in on time. The one that would have been my size was the one that couldn't come in on time. I ordered this as a last minute backup and it worked. It was a little tight but it was fine. I don't think I would order this again, but it was good for the occasion.

I wanted to love this dress, but it ran pretty big on me and felt too voluminous to be flattering or give the fit I'd anticipated; something about the proportions didn't work on me. Of course I loved the pockets, but I didn't feel GREAT in this dress the way I've come to expect with my RTR selections. That, and the fabric was a bit duller than I'd hoped. It was fine, but I didn't hate sending this one back.

The material was thick and comfortable for a fall wedding. It was a beautiful dress but the fit was awkward in the bust. I liked it but probably wouldn't wear it again.

I received this dress as a back up. I didn't love the way the pleats looked on me. The color also reads very different online - it is truly back and gold tweed.

The fit was okay except for the "poof" that was created by the front pleat. Also, the material felt like itchy tweed. Did not like it at all. Sent it back.

Unfortunately I didn't end up wearing this dress because it fit well everywhere except for in the bust, creating an unflattering squished boob look. Same issue with the size 4. If you have a large chest, I wouldn't recommend renting this dress.
