The dress fit in all the right places, and the material was so comfortable. The criss cross fabric across the lower stomach was particularly helpful.

The fit was beautiful! I wore the small - this dress is supposed to be somewhat drapey (which the medium would have given) but I wanted a tighter fit with the same details. The back gave interest and ventilation while not being too revealing and the slit made me feel subtlely sexy. It wasn't too heavy or too light: easy to move in but with definite substance. Most of my night was spent out walking in Atlanta in 80+ degree heat and I felt fine. There is a sheer underpanel from the top of the slit up that is sometimes difficult to adjust when going from sitting to standing but it didn't provide any massive issue as the side of the dress has bunched detailing that hides it (but may provide extra emphasis to hips which some people may want to avoid). Overall, amazing! Wish I could own it.

Helmut Lang never fails to impress with basic, yet subtly edgy styles. The Night Sky Gown is definitely a piece that can be dressed up or down depending on the event you're attending. I wore it out to a birthday dinner in San Fransisco and absolutely loved it! The jersey material is super comfy and falls nicely over the midsection. It runs true to size and has a bit of stretch to it. I would size up one size for backup if needed. It does not have a zipper so be sure to put your makeup and deodorant on after you put the dress on! The only minor issue I had was that the slit in the front kept riding up, but this would have only bothered me if I were attending a more formal event. You also cannot really wear a bra with this style because of the cut out detail on the back. I would recommend a NuBra if you do need to wear a bra! Overall a great piece that I will definitely rent again!

The team at Rent the Runway sent me this dress as a comparable style when the one I had originally ordered was unwearable. What an great dress. It was simple, elegant and made me feel fantastic. There is some rouching across the torso that is hard to see in the photos but is very flattering. One thing to note is the slit is higher than it looks in the picture and the slip underneath the dress tends to ride up if dancing but it wasn't a big deal for me. I usually wear between a 4/6 and the small was perfect.

I wore this to a black tie NYC super fancy wedding. It's really comfortable and stretch, and hugged all my curves. You can definitely glam this dress up or play it down, so it's really versatile.

I got this to dress up as Audrey Hepburn for a masquerade. It fit perfectly hugging the body beautifully and comfortable. Best part was that I didn't even have to tape the bottom. The only disappointment was that the material didn't look very high end and super stretchy but it worked out fine on photos

I rarely wear a large, but wish I had rented a large in this one. I think a more generous fit would have been better for the look I was going for and would have been more flattering. I still loved the dress, but I was going for an edgy look, not a sexy look. I dressed it down a bit with a cropped moto jacket and minimal jewelry.

This dress was selected for me by rent the runway when they were unable to fill the back up size order for my first choice dress. It's not a style i would have chosen for myself, and therefore I wasn't surprised when it fit oddly. Areas that drape loosely on the model pulled and stretched over my hips and bust, yet other areas were loose. I have a feeling this would look great on someone straight and slender, but I'd avoid it if you are at all curvy.

Nice dress but not amazing. I like that the back of the dress had a cool kind of edgy quality. The front was nice but nothing terribly special. I didn't end up wearing the dress because it just didn't have any real wow factor. Based on the pic I had hoped it would have a little more edge, but from the front it was just a simple black dress with a super high slit, drawing the eye straight to the leg, which wasn't really where I wanted focus. All in all definitely not a bad dress, just didn't really do it for me.

I usually wear an M but needed an L in this, because it looks better slouchy. There's a built-in slip that is cut too short and kept riding up -- very annoying. Otherwise, gorgeous, simple, interesting black dress.

This is nice pick for a casual dress. Rented for an evening party falling around the holidays (but not a holiday party), my plan was to couple it with a asymmetrical leather moto jacket I own. Sadly this dress is deceivingly unkind to woman with hips. The fabric pulled a little too much at the hips and I was forced to abort the idea of wearing the dress... or look like a woopie pie with too much filling in the middle. I don't necessarily consider myself an hourglass shape, but this dress definitely made the point clear. This will be a great choice for a more slender, straight + narrow, boyish, or tall figure. Best of luck.

Very clingy - consider sizing up if uncomfortable with tight dress. Previous comments indicated the dress ran long but at 5' 6" with 3" heels it was almost too short.

The dress fit perfectly. I am usually an XS, but they only had a Small Reg or XS petite, so I ordered both. I am 5'7 and the XS petite worked perfectly. It fell just at the ankle for me, but I wanted to show off my shoes (which were about 5 inches) so it worked perfectly for me. The petite may be too short for those my height if you are looking for the dress to be floor length. Great material, thing and stretchy, but clings in all the right places.
