I wore this to a "step-down-from-black-tie" wedding and it was PERFECT. This thick brocade high/low gown is fitted through the waist but full through the hips, thighs, and rear. It was nice for me since my thighs are my biggest (literally) problem area when it comes to formal gowns. Very nice material and detail! I am 5'7 and 125# and the size 2 was a bit big through the ribcage. I am a c-cup and the top fit well without being too risque. This is a very nice formal-ish dress with a hint of sexy. I had A MILLION compliments and will rent this again! Note: after reading other reviews (and based on my experience) this dress runs pretty true to size- but it does err on the side of large in my opinion. This dress was my backup dress, but I knew it was the one the moment I tried it on. It fit perfectly, and I felt so beautiful! I ordered both size 4R and 6R, and the 4R fit perfectly! I am 5'5", 135 lbs, 34D chest. I usually wear between a size 4 or 6... usually size 4/small in dresses and tops and size 6 in pants (occasionally size 4). I didn't have to wear a bra, which is unusual since I need the support. The fabric is thick and top is structured enough to go without a bra, but overall the dress didn't feel heavy. I felt like twirling all night, and I received a lot of compliments on the dress throughout the night. I would buy this dress in a second if I could. In the meantime, I will definitely rent this dress again for my next formal event. It's perfection. I also rented the bracelet and earrings in the photo, and they were the perfect amount of bling for the occasion. A thousand stars!

First time using Rent the Runway. This was for my son's wedding. Fit was great. Loved the weight of the fabric, really helped the dress to have a bit of fullness and a wonderful shape. Was perfect. Pic I have posted is the only one I currently have. I am 45, 5'2', 120 lbs, 34x28x36.

This dress is incredible. I have never received so many compliments in my life. Because of the high low, it was pretty easy to dance in, and I felt awesome in it. The fabric was cool too-- it's kind of difficult to tell in pictures, but it's sort of a tight lace flower pattern over the black. I never wanted to return this dress! It fit perfectly-- I am a true 0 up top, but a 2-4 on the bottom. Because this dress was a ballgown, definitely order based on your top.

Fit is true to size. It was a bit long on me and I wore 3 inch heels. I would recommend the petite size for anyone around 5'1 - 5'4 heights. It is very comfortable and felt glamours all night wearing it. I was sad to take it off at the end of the night! 100% recommend this dress for a formal event.

I ended up wearing the back up size in this style. I am typically a 4, but had to wear a 2. I actually could have used a 2L, but one was not available. However, with the subtle hi-low hem the length was not a real issue. I really loved the black flower texture of the dress as it added a subdued formality to an otherwise plain black dress.

The fit was a definitely snug, but that added to the overall style. I'm usually an 8, sometimes going up or down as was the case with this dress. The halter-style flattened out my chest, and was modest but still classy. Careful with the zipper up the back, a second set of hands is helpful- one of you to hold the dress up where you want it to rest for the event and the other to clasp and zip. But overall, I loved this dress!

This dress is incredibly well made. The fabric is beautiful with a lace detail that doesn't show well in the pictures. The slight rise in the front hem makes the dress extremely comfortable to walk in. I'm 5'5" and wore this dress with 4" heels, making the 4R the perfect length for me. The low cut plunge neckline is still conservative, I didn't feel like anything might "pop" out.

This dress is every bit as awesome as the people before have said it is. It's incredibly forgiving and gives you a perfect hourglass shape, and is helpful for big chested girls like me. I'm a 36D and this fit incredibly well, wasn't falling out anywhere, and was flattering. To put it in my mom's terms, I looked "classy and elegant." I wanted a big ball gown-esque type of dress and this gave me exactly what I wanted. The high-low hem is great for showing off shoes, also great for a grand entrance wherever you walk, as the dress almost fans out - just overall a fantastic dress. Plenty of people said I was the best looking one there, and I'm still getting compliments days later. It was different, refreshingly different, from the other sparkly dresses that are typically at prom and it made me stand out. Would have DEFINITELY kept this if I could, a great dress for a prom, hands down. I ordered the 10R and 12R because I'm usually a 12 in dresses but a 10 in pants, but the 10 fit so much better than the 12. Although, I've seen before that it fits smaller on some people, so your regular size and a size up is the best way to go. The customer service, as usual, was amazing, better than I could hope they would be, and helped me get the perfect dress. Even when I had ordered 2 types of dresses, this one and another, and wanted to send another back, they gave me a refund anyway even though I was in the wrong (definitely don't recommend doing that and I won't be doing that again - they send another dress overnight if the one you order doesn't fit, so there's no need to order 2 for 1 event, that was a mistake on my part) this service is perfect for prom, attending more than one prom, or really any event that you wanna look good at, don't wanna spend too much money, but wanna have a great dress. At any rate, the dress was perfect, looks great in pictures, made me look 28 instead of 18, and the customer service was impeccable. If you want a classy, elegant dress that is sure to fit, THIS IS THE ONE.

Fit is very comfortable. Cut is extremely flattering. The texture is interesting without being overwhelming, and has an understated elegance. Wore to a black tie wedding and received many compliments - would definitely recommend. Note that the second photo shows worn with a shawl, to cover shoulders in the church. (:

I ordered a 4R and a 6R and the 4R fit perfectly. Nice and fitted through my waist. I wore 4 inch heels and the dress just skimmed the ground in the back. I did wear a strapless bra for an extra boost, but I could have easily gone without.

The fit really sucks you in and has a corset like bodice.

Fit is true to size. I am short waisted and needed the 4R as the 6R was too long in the bodice for me. This was my first experience with RTR and I could not be more pleased. User friendly and caring customer service.

I wore this dress for my nephews wedding I must say it was a huge hit people stop me on the dance floor asking where I got my gown and how beautiful it was the fit was amazing ,as a small woman 52 it was slightly long but it worked and I would definitely rent from rent the runway for every other formal occasion I go to!!

Wow!!! This dress is very well made! I usually wear a 6 but choose the 8R for room in the bust area. Loved the fabric, the length, the over all feel!!! Felt like a princess!!! Will rent from renttherunway again for sure!!! Great customer service!!!

The fit of this dress was amazing! It was just enough snug to stay in place, but still allowed room for breathing and cheesecake! I did have to pin the halter as it was a bit to loose. I wore this to a military ball (pictures taken at home before the event). It was the prefect combination of class and elegance. My husband was very pleased! Love this dress and the entire experience. I will definitely use RTR for all my formal occasions in the future!

This is quite possibly my favorite dress I have ever worn. It fit perfectly and was classy but still fun. Loved the big skirt and because its short in the front, you can show off great shoes. Overall I love it and wish I could have kept it. Would definitely rent again!

This dress is absolutely beautiful. I am a first time renter and I will certainly be back! The floral pattern in the material was classic and sophisticated, and the structured bodice of the dress made it a very flattering piece. The material is heavy but certainly not overwhelming and the high-low bottom made dancing very easy - I felt like a princess twirling all night! I received many compliments too!

No bra needed! I'm 5'2-5'3, 36D (160lbs) and the 10R was a perfect fit! It's probably the most figure-flattering dress I've ever worn. I love how it flattens out my tummy. The bell- shaped dress alluded an hour-glass silhouette. It's an elegant dress and made me feel like Cinderella the entire night!

I ordered this dress as my back up and ended up wearing it. I was really impressed with the condition of the dress and the quality. I loved the heavy drape of the fabric. On me the dress was a little large in the chest area, I maybe could have sized down to an 8. My husband didn't like the dress as much as I did. He thought it was not as flattering through the waist and hip area. But I received many compliments through out the night and felt beautiful and elegant.

I ordered both the size 6 (my usual size) with the size 4 as a backup and ended up wearing the size 4. I'm a little short but found that the back did not drag too much (although it did a little). I wore it to a military/vets ball and felt gorgeous in it and got a ton of compliments.

Comfortable dress

I am a tall girl (5'10") and wore 4 inch heels. The back was a little shorter than I would've preferred but it didn't look bad. Similar to other reviews, the top runs a little small so I wore the larger backup size that I ordered. It was very comfortable, not too heavy for a summer wedding with outdoor ceremony. Overall, I was VERY happy with this dress for my event.

I was sent this dress in a size 2R and 4R when my second size choice in another dress was unavailable lady minute. RTR sent this style because it was similar to my original choice. This dress is so glamorous, classy and fabulous. The fabric is thick and the stitch details are so beautiful! I did not end up wearing this dress because the material was so heavy and I needed it for a NY wedding in July. I look forward to renting this dress in the future. When I called RTR to explain my situation they sent me another choice immediately! What could have been a stressful situation and at no point was I worried.

The dress fit perfectly. I usually wear a 2 but decided to go with the 0 so I could have less length in he front. The heavier fabric made for perfect full skirt. I really don't have any cons for this dress, it was comfortable and very easy to wear. I received many compliments and felt great the whole night.

This dress is a perfect one to order from RTR because of the uneven hem. You don' t have to worry about it being too long! I had to have a ball gown and this one was just right. Elegant, and not over the top. I wasn't the "person of the evening" so I didn't want to stand out too much. My boyfriend loved it. I only saw one other person in the same dress that night, and hers was red. There were 700 people there, so it didn't matter! ;)

Fit like a glove. Wore a strapless bra to add a little more chest volume - the deep V tends to flatten you out a bit. Looks like a very heavy fabric but was light on the body and extremely comfortable.

I went to one of the SoHo, NYC locations to try on dresses - using Rent the Runway for the first time. This was the first dress I tried on, but of course, felt compelled to try on many others for the experience. Fit like a glove - very comfortable...at first thought the fabric might be too heavy for dancing, but I was wrong. If you look at the picture of me with the dress and two other women, all three of us were in Rent the Runway dresses, along with many other women who recommended this wonderful service to us for our event gala. There was about 10 UPS bags for pick-up the day after our event! Never received so many compliments on a dress before and was so happy with the added vintage jewelry, that you cannot see in the pictures, but added some nice touches.

The 4R fit was great for a small chest + ample behind combo: Fit snuggly up top but the bottom arched out in a really flattering way, gorgeous silhouette. The subtle pattern and high/low hem were also great details making it more than just a black dress (make sure to wear some show off shoes!). So many compliments!

This dress is a dream. I wore this to my Senior Prom and I got endless amount of compliments. I also had an amazing hair stylist and make up artist that complimented the dress perfectly. I felt so beautiful and I didn't want to take the dress off. It's a heavy material but it was 87 degrees out and I had no complaints. My prom was Gatsby themed and it fit the look perfectly. I wouldn't change one thing, I just love it.

It was longer in the back than expected-- even with heels the dress was brushing the ground. Also, the front did not go up as high in the front as it did in the picture. It was a little bit big in the bust area and in the back, but it looked fine. I would recommend using fashion tape with this dress for around the neckline. The fabric is heavy, but I wore it outside in 70 degree weather and I was not overheated. Although not everything perfectly, the dress still looked great!

I would have never tried this dress on but thankfully my stylist at the showroom told me to just give it a try. I couldn't stop smiling in it. Such a beautiful dress. It is a little heavy, but I wore it in May and was fine. So glad I rented it! Would totally do it again (or purchase at the next sale)
