I usually wear a size 6 or 8 on top and a 10 or 12 on the bottom, and the 38L (size 4) was slightly too big for me. I think the size 36(2) would have been perfect. The long was about 1" too long for me when I was wearing 3.5" heels. The dress is very flattering, but not incredibly sexy, with very little skin on show. I had just the smallest glimpse of cleavage. I loved how comfortable this dress was, and how I could wear a regular bra with it. I think it would be perfect for a party where you wanted to eat and drink and dance the night away. No garment tape needed! I didn't end up wearing it because of the fit issues, but I would rent it again in the smaller size for a different event.

I only ordered one size and should have ordered one down. Great fit and comfortable.

This dress was beautiful, simple, but elegant. It fit great, was slimming, and was super comfortable. A bit long, even with 4-inch heals, but I just held it up a bit when walking and it was fine.

I usually wear a 10 dress, but after reading the reviews, ordered the 8 and the 10. The 8 was perfect, showed all the right curves, added alot of jewelry for the bling. I am 5'1" and wear 4 inch heels, the regular was still a little long, but worked it out, you will like this dress!

Agree that dress is very forgiving (material has some stretch) and flattering. I probably could have even used a size smaller than I normally where to make it more fitted. I ordered the 36R (shorter version) and at 5'2" with a 2-inch heal, the length was perfect just hovering over the floor. The simplicity of the dress lends itself to grabbing some really unique bold accessories/jewelry...a way to stand out at a black tie affair with a black dress and make it your own.

I was leery of wearing a black dress to a Black Tie affair. Everyone wears black! My "blue" choose was not available so this was my 2nd pick This dress is a stand out. It's flowing and slimming and the Photog took lots of pictures of it on the dance floor. I had to get the Regular but next time I'll order the Long so I can wear a higher heel.

Loved this dress. It was a replacement dress when I couldn't get the correct size for my back-up. I ended up choosing this dress over my primary dress. Great dress, so flattering, looked great with good earrings and a nice cuff. Highly recommend. I had a baby about 8 months ago. This dress was not only very forgiving, very flattering.

Fit was a bit big but it was a pretty black dress. I wore it to my students' military ball, so it was nice gown.

This dress runs very large. I am normally a 4 but am 4 months pregnant, currently a 34D and the 4 still fit me with room. It was also long. At 5'2" I needed 5 in heels and could not have worn less. But overall very pretty and very comfortable.

I wore this for a black tie optional event and it was perfect. Simple, comfortable, and elegant.

Runs large, lovely drape, flattering

I rented this dress for a black tie wedding. I was traveling internationally before the wedding, which made this a great time to try Rent The Runway. The logistics were perfect -- everything arrived on time and as expected, and returning the dress was simple. I was looking for a "magic moment", wearing a very fancy dress to a wedding and feeling like a million bucks. The dress fit a bit large, which made the feeling less magical. In the end, I looked great at the wedding, and RtR definitely eased the process of attending a black tie wedding. If only the sizing were a bit better, it would have been five stars.

The material was thin and the top runs large. Not the elegant dress I was hoping for, but loved my backup dress.

I chose this dress for a black tie wedding and found the dress to run a bit large. My back up size was one size larger when I probably should have gone a size smaller. I am 5'8" and ordered the dress long - it was way too long, even with 3" heels...I was tripping over it all night. The dress is very stretchy and I found the material to be a bit dull (perhaps due to overwear).

I would say this dress runs 2 sizes too big and very short. I am 5'7" and generally wear an 8 or 10. I ordered a 42 (which is supposed to be a 10-they didn't have an 8/40) and I was swimming in it. The dress hem was also about 6-8" off the ground, well above my ankles. There is no way I could have worn it. Disappointing, it is very pretty and I think would have been flattering if it actually fit.

I wore this to a black tie gala...very simple but elegant. I am taller, so the length worked very well with 3 inch heels, but the regular length would have been fine also.

this would have been great had I been able to alter it. But if you're thin and have a small frame it won't fit
