I saw this dress and I knew it was the one that I needed. It runs true to size and the material is really nice and heavy. I got so many compliments!

I actually didn't wear this dress to the wedding but I cannot wait to rent this for my next gala. True to size. I'm 5'4 and the length was perfect with 3 inch heels.

I loved wearing this to my friend's wedding. Went with the 16R rather than the 14R to give myself room-- I have a broad back. It was elegant and sexy. Very comfortable to wear and happily danced all night! It was a little heavy, but still easy to wear.. The lace is gold and really makes the dress popped. I wore it with 4-inch gold satin heels and with gold accessories. Lots of compliments received!

Fits perfectly

This dress ended up being my backup dress and I didn't wear it. It wasn't the dress...it was me. It just didn't fit me right and I didn't feel comfortable in it. Although gorgeous, I was attending a day wedding and I feel this dress is probably more suitable for an evening event.

The dress had the appropriate amount of stretch!!

I wore this dress to my high school prom and absolutely loved it!! The only criticism I have is that the button in the back sometimes would pop open but the clasp always stayed put so there was really nothing to worry about.

I'm only 5'1" and wore 3 inch heels- the dress was still too long for me but it worked out OK for the engagement pictures since I didn't have to do much walking. It felt a little baggy on me still.

Long story short, this was a backup dress...but I'm so glad it worked out that I was able to wear it; I LOVED IT! The material is heavier weight, so it kept me warm on a cooler than usual night. I would recommend ordering a size down for backup. My measurements are about 35/36 bust, 29/30 waist, and 38/39 hip. If you look at the Badgley Mischka size chart, that should put me right at a 6. The 6 fit, but I would say it more skimmed my body line, than hugged it tight. I would have like to have had the 4, just to see if the fit was better. One pro to wearing the slightly larger size, was I didn't have the snap issue on the back, as other reviewers have noted. Also, I'm just under 5'8" tall, wore 3" high heels, and the dress was the perfect length. I could see this being too short (or needing flatter shoes) if you're taller. Also, there's a very small train in the back, I would pick it up when walking outside to keep it from dragging, but it wasn't difficult to walk around in otherwise. I rent from RTR often for military formal events (have liked every dress I've rented) but this is the first one I loved so much I didn't want to send back. Hope it works for you too :)

I wore this to a Navy ball that had a date change, so I was lucky it went with both dress whites and blues. The gold is kind of subtle and shimmery in person (not wallpapery like it looks in the pictures), which is lovely, and the train is really nice. I fits large, like other dresses from this designer - I normally wear a 2/4, and the zero was totally fine, even though I have wide hips and it's not particularly stretchy. Also keep in mind the length - I really needed a long, but the 0 didn't come in long. I was about 6'0" with heels for the event, and you could see my entire shoe. Luckily the train kind of made up for it, but if you're taller than 5'6" and wearing heels, you'll definitely need a long. Also, there's no way you can wear a normal bra of any kind because the back is totally open! I had the problem others have mentioned where one of the back clasps comes open, but the other one stayed shut, so you couldn't really tell the difference. I would definitely recommend this dress for any classy formal occasion. It's beautiful and understated!

I used this as my mother of the bride dress. It was a last minute second choice and turned out to be my favorite. I'm about 5' 7", 138 lbs. with an athletic build and small bust. If there is a part of me that can mess up the fit of a dress it's my hips/butt. This dress fit beautifully. I ordered the 4R and the 6R. The 4R fit better int the bust but I liked the length of the 6R, it was perfect, the 4R was a little short, would have to have worn flats - didn't have any. 2.5 inch heels with the 6R. You have to wear a stick on bra if you need a bra. If my bust was just a little bigger I wouldn't have even worn a bra but I needed to fill it out a bit. The material is gorgeous and heavy in a good way. The back straps have a clip closure and a snap. The snap pops instantly and won't stay but it doesn't matter the clip holds the straps in place. I read in other reviews that people got complements all evening. So did I, all evening. It was my first rental with Rent the Runway and I will be renting again.

Little long but heels let it fall perfectly, very flattering but a little loose in the bust.

I have a 34C Bust and didn't wear a bra. No one could tell and the dress was snug enough to keep everything in place. I wore 3" heels and very rarely tripped on the length, when I did I was either stepping backwards or dancing. Very comfortable dress throughout.

Fit was great. Loved it. Wore to a black tie affair and felt great in it.

I'm 5'6", 125#. The length of the dress was perfect with 3" heels. The design, color and fit was absolutely perfect. The snap in the back, however, did keep coming undone but there's a clasp that didn't allow the back to come wide open. I had so many compliments and would highly recommend this dress for a wedding!

The dress is gorgeous, but runs a little large on the top. I'm 5'7" and the regular was a perfect length with flats. My only complaint was that the snaps on the back straps kept coming undone throughout the night.

The dress is a heavier fabric but the floral detail made it an elegant choice for a warm Texas night in March. It was beautiful and very comfortable. I am 5'5 & only wore a 2" heel and the front hem of 8R seemed a little short. The low back is beautiful and worked well with broad shoulders. but the small snap closure had to be pinned as to not open with the slightest movement.

The fit was as expected. I can't usually wear dresses with special back designs so the strap issue in the back didn't shock me. I'd still recommend the dress. It was awesome! Classic.

There were many other dresses on the site that I wanted, but I started searching late, so most were not available. This was probably my fourth choice, but in the end I was very happy with it. I usually am a 2 or a 4, so those are the sizes I ordered. I tried on the 2 and it fit very well with a bit of breathing room so I never tried on the 4. I probably could have even gone for a 0 if I wanted it a bit more fitted and a touch shorter (It touched the floor with the 2) I wore my hair up, which you pretty much HAVE to do. It looked great and was super comfortable. The fabric is pretty heavy, so best for fall or winter. (The event was in November). I definitely recommend this dress and RTR!

This dress was actually a backup as the one I initially wanted wasn't available at the last minute in my size. I actually LOVED this dress and am so thankful for the last minute change! It was comfortable and no bra was necessary! I was surprised that the 2R was such a good fit so it might run a bit large as I'm normally a 4R. It was comfortable and I received a lot of compliments.

Great dress. I was worried the reg would be too short with my shoes on. It was actually perfect. Very gorgeous and flattering. I liked how the dress supported my DD chest in the front, yet the tiny snap in the back kept popping and eventually by the end of The night the hook had ripped off too. I recommend sewing the straps together once the dress is on.

This is my first time using RTR and I have to say my experience was excellent. From the fast delivery, the customer service to the dress. I rented the dress for a formal Christmas party. I picked the dress kind of last minute so didn't have a lot of choices, with the being said I absolutely loved my choice! the dress is beautiful. The fabric is thick so it hides all the imperfections. I would say that the dress has some miles on it, the little clasp above the zipper will not close but it is defiantly not noticeable. Also, the "X" on the back is a little tricky, I chose to go without a bra and I do not regret it. Loved the dress and all the compliments.

Needed a dress for a somewhat conservative event and didn't want a lot of cleavage. This was a beautiful gown -- the gold lace overlay and silk cross-back details really make it stand out in a sea of black. It was very comfortable with just a little stretch to the fabric which allowed me to sit, stand, and dance with ease. I am between a 14/16 in dresses, and wore the 14. As others have noted, the cross back is a little tricky. It did tend to flop out a little on the bottom of the "X". I tried fixing it with some dress tape but it didn't work out so I eventually just ignored it. Undergarments were also tricky -- you can NOT wear a standard bra back with this -- would need either nubra in the front, or some other backless undergarment, to be perfect. I have a full enough bust that I didn't feel comfortable going bra-less but didn't have time to find the perfect fit before my event, so I made it work by rigging up a cross-back bra and pinning down the clasps under the dress. I would rent this again for a formal event.

Wore this dress to a black tie optional wedding. Comfortable to dance in yet chic and good quality fabric. I wore the dress with 4 in heels to make sure I didn't trip but I had no problem with that! Minus one star because the lining was slightly longer than the dress and as another reviewer stated the back, which is secured with a hook as well as a snap closure, often snapped open - definitely thankful for the hook but I'd also recommend pinning it down.

Absolutely adored this dress! I received so many compliments. Loved the way it hugs your curves in all the right places - also accentuated my favorite body part with its low back (as long as you don't mind wearing a backless bra). I could have worn either the 4 (my usual size) or the 6 as there wasn't much of a difference; decided to go with the smaller size for a little more "va va voom!" I'm 5 foot 6.5 inches and with 3 inch heels, the length of the dress was perfect. Only one negative thing - the detail on the back is held together with a hook and eye as well as a snap. When my back would flex the snap would pop. You might notice in the back view photo that I've posted, that the back strap design looks a little "off." That's because I had moved a little too much and the snap let go. Might not be a problem for ladies with smaller backs; but just a heads up. Not enough to keep me from recommending this dress to anyone looking for a while lot of glam for a special occasion!

The Encrusted Gown is extremely comfortable, fits great and has a great open back design that gives it some edge. This is definitely true to size but would recommend sizing up for back-up size.

I'm a curvy girl & have trouble finding things that fit well & this dress fit beautifully! The button on the back needs to be reinforced or changed to a different button, but it held up for the night. It is perfectly made & am definitely adding a bustle for it so I can dance.

This was a perfect fit and super comfortable dress! I felt comfortable yet elegant and received many compliments. I went to the Georgetown boutique to try this dress on and normally wear a size 6 in gowns, but the 4 worked better because I am smaller chested. A woman with a larger chest may need to be cautious. Only annoying part about this dress was the clasps on the back; everytime I bent down or went to the bathroom, the bottom clasp unsnapped! Thank goodness for boyfriends to help :)

It's too long for a 5'1" frame.

I feel in love with this dress the moment I saw it online. The dress is more beautiful in person and the back is so elegant. I received compliments all night long. The dress is made with heavy fabric which was nice at an indoor/outdoor February ball. I wore the 2L and wish I would have ordered a 2R. The dress is long, even with 4 inch heels.

I am between a 14 and a 12. The 12 fit well. The dress is beautiful. It is mostly dark navy with gold overlay. The straps are black so a black shoe is doable. I am 5'9" and am very glad I had a long length. It was not too long. The dress has some give to it, some stretch. I wore is braless. The fabric is thick so it does not show bumps.

This dress fit well and was very flattering. However the snaps on the back straps kept popping every time I moved. I think the closure needs to be repaired.

I ended up not wearing this dress. While it's incredibly comfortable it runs a bit small, especially in the chest area. Given the criss cross, openness of the back I was really surprised to find the dress smashed my poor little mid B cup breasts into my chest, to say they looked like pancakes would be insulting to pancakes. The lining is thick and has that coziness of yoga pants, that alone made me really want the dress to work. It's heavier weight dress so along with the thick and cozy lining I'd say it's better for cool weather events and you'd be overwhelmed trying to wear it in even moderately warm weather.

The fabric of this gown is beautiful, much nicer in person than showed in the picture, the gold threads really sparkle. I did not wear the dress because the top was too big. Had I had enough time to get a front bra with some padding I may have been able to pull it off though. The back comes very low so even a full line low back bra will not work, you will need to go bra-less or wear a stick on front only bra. I tried it with three inch heels and the length was perfect. There is a small train though so would have to be careful not to trip when dancing.

I thought this ran very close to size. My issue was the length. I am only 5'6'' but the regular length option was so short on me, I couldn't wear it. Even flat footed, it was an inch off the ground.

Perfect for a formal wedding and it's an awesome dress. You can tell it's well-made for good material. The bust is a little bit larger though.
