I usually wear a size 6, but I was in my early first trimester of pregnancy and went for the 8 to compensate for my changing body. It fit great. The dress hugs curves but is not tight at all. It was a little short: I'm 5'4'' and with 3 inch heels, the dress sat about an inch off the ground. I wore this to the Emmys (my husband won!) and it was formal enough for the event, but you could also dress it down a bit if you did a simple up-do and no jewelry.
