Work Wear: Office Style at Rent the Runway

Since 2009, website Rent the Runway has been making high fashion more accessible to women by renting out designer dresses and accessories for a fraction of their retail price. The site currently has offerings from 170 labels, including Thakoon, Proenza Schouler and Narciso Rodriguez. The 120-person company, which launched in 2009, occupies two floors of office space in the West Village, while its operations warehouse is based in Secaucus, N.J.

All full-time employees receive complimentary dress rentals, which helps keep a steady stream of different looks flowing through the office. “We have a lot of beautiful men and women, so it’s easy for them to experiment,” said Jennifer Hyman, CEO and co-founder of Rent the Runway. “Fashion discovery happens in the office. Our own employees are our best source of what’s in fashion.”
