Beautiful dress, but expensive

I'm torn on how to review this dress. It is a beautiful dress and I love the print. It photographs really well and if it cost less to rent, I'd be tempted to rent it again for family pics. Be warned that it's long. I'm 5'6" and it hit right below my knee - wish it was a little bit shorter. I'm a size 6 and wore a 42 - worked fine, but was a little big and I wish I had sized down for my back up. The gathering at the waist is very pretty as well as flattering. I rented it for a casual cocktail party, and ended up wearing another dress as I didn't think this dress was formal enough for my event. Didn't want this dress to go to waste though so I wore it to a much more casual event the day before.
Here's the downside. I think $175 is way too much to spend to rent a dress for a very casual event, and you could buy a dress for that price or less. It's absolutely a beautiful dress, but I don't think it's worth the rental price. In my case, I rented another $175 dress for a black tie event and got this for $25 as my back up. Thankfully, it was a busy event week and I was always to wear both, but I doubt I'd ever pay $175 to rent this one on its own.
