RTR Runway Rep Weekend
Mon, 2011-04-18 14:40 | by Anonymous
This weekend RTR hosted its first ever Runway Rep College Capstone weekend in NYC. Twenty Runway Reps flew in from around the country representing schools such as Harvard, NYU, University of Georgia, University of California, Roger Williams, Case Western, University of Colorado, Penn State, and many others. The weekend was jam packed with fun filled fashion activities for the girls.
Our Runway Reps are the face of RTR on Campus. They market RTR on their campuses and introduce other college girls to the Cinderella experience at a young age. These young women build Facebook pages, blogs, hold fashion shows and other events on campus that encourage girls to rent the runway and fall in love with designer brands.
We wanted to reward the Runway Reps for all of their hard work this year on campus and put together activities that gave them the opportunity to learn about the fashion industry and more about behind the scenes at RTR. Some highlights from the day included a designer session with Christian Siriano, a Badgley Mischka brand presentation held by Heather Cloud, a Spring fashion preview led by our very own fashion team, a tour of our warehouse and dinner in the Meatpacking district.
Part of the day involved brainstorming sessions where the Runway Reps were able to share best practices with each other and work on generating new ideas to bring back with them to their respective campuses.
We currently have 150 Runway Reps on over 50 campuses and are looking to expand this to over 150 schools in the next year. Thanks to all of the Runway Reps that were able to join us this weekend. It was truly an amazing experience! --Becky
UGA's Oscar Party
Thu, 2011-03-03 14:11 | by Anonymous
Bringing the red carpet to Athens, GA, the Creative Consultants Rent the Runway team at UGA held a glamorous 2011 Oscar’s Viewing Party this past Sunday night. What better way to tie in Rent the Runway to a glamour girl’s heart than eyeing gorgeous must-see gowns on the big screen? Here Christine, walks us through all the festivities.
We had a great time hosting our very own Oscar viewing party on Sunday and have to share just how we made it happen.
Hosted at a beautiful sorority house, just inside the French doors was a real life red carpet for guests of our Oscars party! When fashionable guests entered the room and followed the red carpet, it lead them right to the big screen. We even had a computer station where newcomers were able to register for Rent the Runway while guests chatted and fawned over gowns on the RTR website.
On commercial breaks, we gave away fun prizes. To win, our guests had to participate in RTR games like “Name that Price”, “Guess the Price” and RTR trivia. The team even introduced the new frocks to rent for only $40, which many girls were super excited about!
Girls loved coming together to watch the Oscar’s while learning about Rent the Runway to win free goodies. My RTR team is hoping this will become an annual event and even inspire other college campuses to do the same. Afterall, who wouldn't want to know about Rent the Runway??!
Happy Renting from the UGA RTR team!
Dress Diaries: Valentine’s Day with RTR
Mon, 2011-02-14 11:39 | by Anonymous
Rent the Runway is all about Cinderella moments. Alexandra, one of our runway reps at the University of Georgia takes us through the life of her Valentine's Day rental in this Dress Diary story. Check out how she details her experience from our dream closet to hers.
Valentine’s Day calls for pulling out all of the stops, whether it’s a fun night out with the girls or a romantic date night. To celebrate the weekend, I rented the gorgeous Cecile Love earrings and Tracy Reese Lacy Wrapped Sheath.
On Friday night my girlfriends and I kicked off the evening by touring Terrapin, Athens’ own local brewery, before heading to grab dinner at a popular pizza dive. The evening was casual yet fun, so I paired the Cecile earrings with a loose grey blouse, skinny jeans and flats (left). The super-glam combination of red and pink diamond chandeliers made the entire outfit pop and definitely added that ‘wow’ factor.
Saturday night my boyfriend and I attended his fraternity date night and my aim was to blow him out of the water with a stunning outfit… the Tracy Reese dress did just that! The Lacy Wrapped Sheath was beyond flattering and hugged every curve perfectly. The Cecile earrings stood out beautifully with the texture of the fabric while the mixing of two different styles turned out to be a surprisingly great juxtaposition.
Rent The Runway made the weekend beyond fabulous! What are you wearing for Valentine's Day?

Rock the Runway: Textbooks and Tickets Tour
Wed, 2011-02-02 13:33 | by AnonymousRTR rocked the runway this past Saturday at the Textbook and Tickets Tour sponsored by Chegg and Battle of the Bands. The crowd was cheering as NYU’s hottest coeds modeled our hottest looks to open the show for Chiddy Bang. Jack Threads, our favorite men’s streetwear shopping club, partnered with us to dress the dudes.
The models worked the downtown edgy looks with a side of rock star spunk. Our glam squad put on the finishing touches. Lancome wowed us with eyelashes that touched the ceiling and Arrojo Studio created hair styles with power. Here's some backstage shots mixed with front row fashion - enjoy! --Brooke

Fashion Show Round Up!
Wed, 2010-12-15 02:18 | by AnonymousAthens, Georgia is officially our most fashionable college town this fall. Our rock star team of runway reps at the University of Georgia has ignited RTR on campus with girls renting for everything from game day to winter formal. We interviewed Runway Rep Team Manager, Mary Mitchell to learn more about their initiatives on campus including the philanthropy fashion show that kicked off the semester in style. Below are Mary Mitchell’s tips for planning a fashion show on your campus.
1 Partner With a Great Cause
Team with a student run philanthropy that your campus is passionate about and allow all ticket proceeds to go to that cause. UGA HEROs involves more than 2,000 students and the fashion show raised over $1,000 for the organization.
2 Book a Cool Venue
When traditional on campus locations were already booked for our date, local artist Stan Mullin donated his fabulous art studio barn for the fashion show. We improvised to create a runway using tea lights and borrowed chairs from our sorority houses.
3 Model Casting
We invited one representative from each sorority volunteer to model so that their entire chapters would come out to support them! We also worked with student fashion organizations on campus that have experience in casting models.
4 Styling and Production
We partnered with Boulevard, a local fashion magazine to produce the fashion show and run all back stage production. A local salon also donated stylists to get the models runway ready.
5 Music and Entertainment
The fashion show is a short 15-20 minutes, so we invited a local band to open the night. Their performance was followed by a live DJ that spun for the actual catwalk show.
6 Programs and Swag Bags
We printed programs to highlight all of the designers featured in the show, the models walking, and the organizations that donated their services. We even placed swag bags in the front row, so the first students to arrive would get an extra treat.
7 Celebrity Guests
Surprise guests are a great perk to any fashion show. We invited four football players to escort models down the runway for game day looks.
8 Public Relations
We worked with our student newspaper and many local fashion blogs to promote the event and increase awareness about RTR and our cause.
9 Results
Rentals in Athens have continued to increase each month after the show, so all of our hard work and planning paid off!

Getting Schooled In Fashion
Mon, 2010-09-27 18:25 | by Lara CrystalI’m on the road for our second Rent the Runway college tour and this time I ‘m heading further south to UF, UGA, UA, and Vanderbilt. In preparation for my trip, I thought I’d share some scenes from our inaugural college tour that took Jenn, Jenny, me, and 200 of our hottest dresses to UNC, Duke, UVA, and SC. Our Runway Reps organized a variety of amazing events on campus - from trunk shows to fashion shows. Gaggles of gorgeous girls came out to try on new designers and book looks for game day (yes, dresses are de rigueur for football games), rush, date parties, formals, and all of their upcoming events. –Brooke

What’s a college girl to do when you’re not allowed fraternize with boys or go out for 4 nights during sorority recruitment? Throw the ultimate ladies only event: a Rent the Runway fashion show and trunk show offering up fall’s hottest trends on Carolina’s hottest women. Jenn, Jenny, and our UNC Runway Reps welcomed over 300 girls who came out for our soiree at the Franklin Hotel.

Here’s our bevy of beautiful models before and after the show. It’s true what they say: Carolina girls really are the best in the world.
