Tuesday Tip: NYE Sky-High Pony
Tue, 2011-12-27 16:35 | by AnonymousNew Year’s Eve may be the one night you can get away with three of our favorite things; a sparkly dress, a smokey eye and a statement lip! We all know this is the most photographed night of the year, and we’re guaranteeing you a fabulous profile picture to ring in 2012 in style with one of our designer picks.
So you’ve ordered the dress, but now how will you wear your hair? Have no fear, RTR has you covered!
For something out of the ordinary, we love a Kardashian-inspired sleek sky-high pony to be the perfect way to add runway flair to your already fashionable attire. To achieve this look follow a few easy steps:
1. Add a texturizing spray to add thickness to damp hair then blowdry
2. Flat iron if desired for extra smoothness
3. Using paddle brush, bring hair to high pony
4. Secure with elastic leaving a one inch section out to hide elastic
5. Take one inch of hair and wrap around elastic securing with bobby-pin
6. If bumps arise in front, take a comb through to smooth
7. Add shine serum and finishing spray to complete!
With your hair in a sleek and chic pony, you can add more emphasis to that stunning statement red lip and even showcase that amazing necklace or earring that will wow them all.
With this complete look you’ll be sure to cause more attention than the ball dropping itself! Remember, this is your night to shine!

Apparently Chanel has a sporty side and we love their retro interpretation of the high top sneaker. Be best dressed at the gym in their Spring 2012 collection kicks.

5 ITP Winter Show
The NYU ITP program is one of the jewels of the NYC startup community; it is a masters program focused on the intersection of technology, design, and communication. Among their more notable alumni is Dennis Crowley, founder of foursquare.
Twice a year they host a show in which students demonstrate their projects to the public, and the current show is running through the end of today. Check it out if you can!

In the spirit of the troops coming home from Iraq, we wanted to share this adorable video of military and man's best friend reunions.
8 Bound Custom Journals
We love Bound Custom Journals - a site where you can create personal, made-to-order notebooks. You choose the content from their library of sections (lined, grids, calendars, maps, etc), and they take care of the rest. These make perfect gifts and better yet - through the end of the year when you buy a giftcard for a friend you get one for yourself!
9 Disposable
Mikkel loves this new FREE iPhone app from Hipstamatic. You have to finish the whole role of "film" before it let's you see the photos...nice way to mix an "old concept" with new technology!

Thursday Obsession: GOOP App
Thu, 2011-12-15 17:45 | by AnonymousWe love Gwyneth Paltrow's weekly GOOP newsletter and when the most recent one popped up in our inbox with the subject line 'Our First App' we knew we were in for a treat. GP's app features city guides with the first one being New York City, and Los Angeles and London to follow. Gwenyth dishes on her favorite NYC eats, spas, hotels, museums and more...she even lists the doctors she goes to! So if you're visiting NYC for a day or just need a dinner recommendation, this app will be your #1 go to.
Style Spotlight: Miranda Kerr
Wed, 2011-12-14 14:50 | by AnonymousMiranda Kerr has got a pretty enviable life...Victoria's Secret model and hubby Orlando Bloom? Not fair....but you can steal her style in a cinch.
We love Miranda in winter white and she pairs this bandage dress perfectly with slick hair and red lips. For your next night out try this super flattering Cushnie et Ochs strapless number that features a subtle, sexy keyhole. For a more sophisticated style go with a Yigal Azrouel dress that will give you Victoria's Secret-worthy curves in no time. Pair with red lips using Lancome's Color Design Lip Color in Red Haute to get Miranda's sultry look.
Playful prints is easily one of our favorite trends and for us, they're here to stay. Miranda looks modern, sporty, and lady-like all at the same time in this futuristic Peter Pilotto dress. We love how fun and unique this look is. Try this chevron printed Thakoon number to spice it up or a classic, navajo printed Proenza Schouler.
As Bill Blass said, "When in doubt, wear red." To get Miranda's classic, sexy look go with a flirty Haute Hippie dress that screams take me dancing! For a more tailored version try a Z Spoke Zac Posen dress with a sweetheart neckline.
Jenn's Top 5 Reasons to Rent for NYE
Wed, 2011-12-14 14:41 | by Anonymous

1 You Deserve It
You've worked around the clock all year, why shouldn't you look your most beautiful on the most celebrated night of the year? Did you know that more engagements happen and more people meet their special "one" on NYE than any other night? Thanks to our friends at The Knot for this info :)
2 It's the most photographed night of the year.
Fabulous new Facebook profile picture - guaranteed!
3 You will definitely only wear that sequin dress once.
(especially due to #2). Can't be seen twice in the same dress on Facebook if you know what I'm sayin. Got an image to uphold...
4 Fit Guaranteed: Eat as many holiday cookies as you want.
We send you two sizes, so you won't have to skimp on your favorite seasonal treats.
5 A one night stand you won't regret.
New Year's is likely the #1 night of the year for one night stands but hey you never know, it could lead to point #1. Wear something sparkly. This is the one night of the year where bling = normal. If you're not sparkling, go home! And as my fav person Becky Hyman always says, "more is more."
xo, Jenn
Tuesday Tip: Glow For It
Tue, 2011-12-13 12:23 | by AnonymousWho says the holiday lights are the only things that get to sparkle? Just because the weather is getting drab doesn't mean your skin has to. Blush is the perfect pick me up to add the extra excitement you need for these gloomy winter months. We love our Lancome Golden Hat/Powder Blusher not only because of its adorable packaging (can you blame us) but because it supports the Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit created by beloved Ambassadress Kate Winslet to raise funds to better the lives of children living with autism. To support her inspiring philanthropic endeavor, Lancôme has worked with her to create a stunning holiday collection that brings to life the spirit and message of the charity. The new multi-compacted powder is an original interpretation of the Golden Hat, symbol of her non-profit. Her personal signature dresses the limited-edition black packaging in a glamorous gold script.
No matter how fair or deep your complexion, everyone can benefit from this product. This dual-purpose blush and powder is the perfect addition to your cosmetic bag or stocking stuffer for your bestie. This all-over sparkling pink powder adds a flawless glow even J.Lo would be jealous of! Are you ready to shine like a star?
Spotted: Kate Walsh in Temperley London
Tue, 2011-12-13 10:33 | by AnonymousKate Walsh wore this rich blue Temperley London Gown to the 2011 UNICEF Ball. We love the pleated draping and how the deep color complements her auburn hair. Perfect for a Black Tie Gala, New Year's Eve Ball, or Charity Event, this is certainly a feminine style that no one will forget. Pair with a statement necklace like Ciner's Champagne and Chains or a simple bracelet like Kate to complete your look.

3 New York Times Talks
Mikkel saw Charlize Theron and Jason Reitman Friday night in the New York Times Talks. She loved it and can't wait to see their new film, Young Adult, which hits theaters this weekend. No photos are allowed but they live stream the event so if you're not in NYC, you can still watch!

Charles loves Ame Ame, a rain gear and candy store in the East Village. With the crazy NYC rain last week, these umbrellas stood the ultimate weather test.

8 New Orleans Trip
Erica went to New Orleans for the first time this weekend. She had a wonderful time filled with hearty food, live music, amazing artwork and beautiful architecture...and lots of time on bourbon street.
9 Homeland
We love ourselves a good CIA-themed series (Alias, anyone?) and Showtime's Homeland does not disappoint. With Claire Danes as the main character and a thrill-filled plot line this series is a must add to your DVR before the season finale next weekend!
.jpg)
10 Party Like a Culinista
We love Jill & Josie, the ladies behind Party Like a Culinista. Their cookbook offers a balance of heathy, fun, and delicious recipes to entertain and wow your friends. Pick up a copy of their book so you can let loose in the kitchen and party like a culinista this holiday season! (It also makes a great gift!)
Gossip Girl Style: Holiday Parties and New Year's Eve
Fri, 2011-12-09 18:26 | by AnonymousIn last week's mid-season finale, the stars of Gossip Girl celebrated Charlie's coming into New York society in style. From her glittery gown to Serena’s feminine frock, we were envisioning all the holiday and New Year's Eve styles we could create based on these looks.
Charlie sported a gorgeous Badgley Mischka gown to the party, and we love how she sparkled and shined the whole night, even though all that glittered wasn't gold. Wow the crowds in this rose gold colored Badgley Mischka gown for your next event this winter. If strapless is more your style, work this gold Badgley Mischka gown to be the center of attention all night.
Blair stayed true to her roots by sporting a preppy, printed frock this episode. For a more spohisticated Blair-esque look, try this eye-catching, printed silk Thakoon dress. Wear a statement necklace from Dannijo to complete your party look. To get Blair's Upper East Side ensemble, wear this Tibi Rocco Shift with confidence and pride.
Serena went super feminine for Charlie's party with a lavender cocktail dress. We love the oversize bow and flirty fringe. Get Serena's look with this festive gold accented Milly frock. If you're into more subdued colors, try this Milly Magnolia Lace dress with bow detail to channel S for your special night out.

Spotted: Revenge Stars in RTR
Fri, 2011-12-09 11:58 | by AnonymousHere at RTR we are huge Revenge fans and love seeing what Emily wears each week. In this week's episode, she wore a Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti colorblock dress to get lunch with Daniel and his mother, the infamous Victoria. We love her classic, tailored style and this dress highlights up her conservative, innocent facade perfectly. Rent this dress for a special brunch, family party, or holiday gathering this season!
Charlotte Grayson sported this embellished Rebecca Taylor dress for a Grayson family dinner a few weeks ago. The bodice fits Charlotte perfectly and we love the teal dress with her chesnut colored hair. Wear this dress for a date night or fun dinner you have coming up!

Fri, 2011-12-09 11:48 | by Anonymous
The Hunger Games Designer Sketches
The Hunger Games is one of the most anticipated films of next year, and as avid fans of the books we can hardly wait. Jennifer Lawrence plays the main character, Katniss, who wears a fire dress in one of the most important parts of the story. InStyle asked 11 designers to sketch Katniss's fire dress, and we are in awe over their interpretations. Two of our favorites are Christian Siriano's and Rachel Roy's, shown below. [StyleCaster]

Badgley Mischka Fine Jewelry Line
Badgley Mischka has released the first photos of their fine jewelry line and we are loving the rich volors and silver theme. Below are two of our favorite pieces, how gorgeous is that blue topaz! The pieces range in price from $1,500 to $30,000, but if you'd rather not shell that out you can rent some of their pieces on RTR here! [Racked]

Thursday Obsession: Chanel's Pre-Fall Show
Thu, 2011-12-08 18:22 | by AnonymousWe are completely obsessed with the decadence of Chanel's Pre-Fall show. Long banquet tables are accompanied by luscious foods and sumptuous decor as models show off the rich, Indian inspired collection. Karl Lagerfeld described it as the "Paris version of the idea of India" and we love how he marries the two cultures. Catch the video and escape to ParIndia for three minutes!
Spotted: Sofia Vergara in Catherine Malandrino
Thu, 2011-12-08 16:01 | by AnonymousNew Year's Eve, which opens in theaters this weekend, has one of the most star-studded casts we've ever seen and it definitely doesn't disappoint in the rom-com category. Sofia Vergara wears the Catherine Malandrino Modern Queen Elizabeth dress in the film and looks totally stunning. Her toussled waves perfectly complement the dress and the royal blue color is so striking on her. Pair with a simple cuff like this rose gold one from Alexis Bittar and you're good to go. Why not ring in the new year like Sofia in this gorgeous, unique dress?
Style Spotlight: Lea Michele
Wed, 2011-12-07 17:51 | by AnonymousLea Michele has progressively stepped up her red carpet game since the first season of Glee and we love her confident, sleek style. Part sophisticated Rachel Barry, part budding cover star, Lea has experimented with a wide array of brands but loves solid colors and simple lines. See some of her best looks below.
The one-shouldered style of this dress shows off Lea's figure perfectly. We love the simple lines and dark, navy color. For a similar effect, try this silk stretch Nicole Miller dress that looks fabulous on many body types.
Lea looks like a true star in red. We love the strappless style on her and her hair swept to one side is a great effect. To wow the crowds for your next event, go classic in a strapless Laila Azhar dress that has ruffle detailing and a sweetheart neckline.
For a more formal look, Lea keeps it bright in a mandarin colored gown. To get Lea's look, go for a pop of color this winter and sport this gorgeous Narciso Rodgriguez cut out gown. Keep your hair and accessories simple to round out your look.

2 Facebook NYC
Welcome to the neighborhood, Facebook! On Friday, Facebook announced that it will open an engineering office here in early 2012. We love the fact that New York is becoming more of a hub for tech and social companies.

Check out RTR on Facebook if you haven't already!
3 Pret a Manger
At RTR our lunch options are pretty limited, so when we got word that Pret a Manger was opening on the corner we could hardly contain ourselves. We were easily the most enthused patrons at their Hudson Street debut on Friday where they gave out free lunch. Chondita even left the first tip on Foursquare!
4 Jonathan Adler
Jonathan Adler has some unreal holiday accessories right now. Neil got this menorah as a housewarming/christmakuh gift for a friend.
5 Birthday Cake
Tess is a design master on and off the clock. She made this adorable, picture perfect cake for her son's third birthday.

6 Pinterest
We are addicted to Pinterest and all of the inspiration it provides! Some of us even have to set quotas for how long we can browse...
7 Pomme Cafe
Mikkel ate at Pomme Cafe in Astoria last night to celebrate a successful move. She says the lamb burger was unreal: spicy feta, tomato jam, cucumber, figs and arugula and the crispiest fries as the "cherry on top" - so good! And totally reasonably priced!
Jenny loves this iPhone app that will help her choose a name for her baby girl (she's due this month!). The app randomly generates thousands of baby names while monitoring the baby's movements to sense any signs of enthusiasm. Such a fun, interactive app for expecting mothers!
9 iPod Nano Watchband

Fri, 2011-12-02 13:29 | by AnonymousCongrats to this week's Style Awards winner, Jenn! She wore the Yigal Azrouel Selma Gown to the Marine Corps Ball and looked absolutely stunning. We love the colorblocked style on her and the slit provides just the right amount of sophistication and sultryness.

Behind the Seams: Vera Wang
Thu, 2011-12-01 20:08 | by AnonymousVera Wang tells us her proudest moment as a designer, her inspiration for her latest collection and advice for aspiring designers. Read on to get all the dish from Vera!
Tell me about the latest Vera Wang Resort collection.
Resort 2012 is all about easy shapes with a definite emphasis on prints. Strong brights counterbalanced by gentle geometrics and dots.
How would you describe your own style?
Personal style for me is, first and foremost, about comfort. If you're not comfortable with who you are, I don't think you can really be stylish. And I think the women who are the most stylish, and the most glamorous, are usually women that are extremely honest with themselves, and feel comfortable being who they are...who they are in their skin, who they are as a human being. And I think that's what style is really about.
What was your proudest moment as a designer?
I have many proud moments as a designer, but one of them was winning the CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year award in 2005... The fact that I actually won was such a shock. When I was nominated, I felt so honored, because it's your peers...Winning that award meant becoming part of fashion history.
If you could give advice to aspiring designers, what would it be?
The best advice I can give is to study it... School is a great place to start, but if that is not accessible to you then try learning it from the ground up: Xeroxing, folding stock in a store, selling - at least you will find out if you really love it by experiencing it first hand. If you already know your path and are fortunate enough to know yourself, the next best thing is to work for a designer, publicist, or publication you truly admire. That way you can learn how multi-faceted the fashion world really is and how each business has its own specific DNA and business model.
Regardless of your passion, most people only begin to truly appreciate their careers, and their lives, as they improve, and grow, and achieve their goals on their own! That is where true satisfaction and dignity lie for all of us. No one can ever take something away from you if you've earned it. That is the beauty of achievement!
Thursday Obsession: Watch What Happens Live
Thu, 2011-12-01 16:21 | by AnonymousMany of us here at RTR like to call ourselves Bravoficionados, so we were thrilled to hear that Andy Cohen's campy "Watch What Happens Live" show was being extended to 5 nights a week. His cheeky commentary and tendency to speak his mind give a fresh perspective to late night TV and needless to say we've been sold since day one. We love the set, which was designed to look like the den in Andy's apartment and houses memorbilia from many of the guest stars (reality and movie alike). Mr. Cohen, who also serves as Bravo's EVP of Development and Talent, has conceived such shows as "Top Chef" and the "Real Housewives" franchise. So mazel to you Andy, you're no doubt the newest champion of late night!

What to Wear: New Year's Eve
Thu, 2011-12-01 11:05 | by AnonymousHeading to a party this New Years where you’re sure to dance the night away? With cutouts and sparkle you’ll be the best dressed in the room. Pair this Badgley Mischka sequin mini dress with simple accessories and a Judith Leiber clutch for a stand out ensemble. For a daring but chic outfit, work the Pencey Dance To The Beat dress with a Janis Savitt statement necklace.
If you have a date this New Year’s Eve, go bold and classy in raving red or molten metallic. We love this one-shouldered number by Black Halo that is ultra glam when paired with gold accessories. Go with a champagne colored clutch and gold drop earrings to round out your perfect date night look. If you’re more of a neutral girl, try this metallic strapless See by Chloe number with unique black accents. To add texture and shine wear this Elizabeth Cole bracelet and a Cara Accessories chain braided necklace.
For a dinner party with friends this New Year’s Eve, go casual glam in sheer black or bold blue draping. We love Milly’s Flutter dress that can be dressed up or dressed down. Rent a vintage Chanel necklace to make your night that much more memorable, and pair with a metallic clutch. If you’re heading out after dinner, wear this gorgeous blue Yigal Azrouel dress and you’ll surely be the envy of all your friends. Accessorize with a statement Erikson Beamon ring and stardust Kara Ross clutch.
If you have big plans that require black tie attire this New Year’s, make sure you dress the part. We are loving one shouldered gowns for winter that combine glitz with glam. Wear this celeb-worthy Carmen Marc Volvo gown with bold crystal drop earrings and a stone cuff and you’ll light up the room. For an eye-catching look, try this gold sequin gown by Blugirl paired with a hammered cuff and gilded clutch.
