Celebrity Chic: Pretty in Peplum
Thu, 2011-09-29 10:51 | by AnonymousOne of our favorite new arrivals from Moschino, this gorgeous black peplum dress, was spotted on both Lady Gaga and Anna Faris this week. We love how Lady Gaga glammed it up with a statement necklace, shades, and black gloves. Anna Faris goes uptown chic with a simple hairstyle and strappy Louboutins. Both ladies do this Moschino dress right, but who wore it better?
Style Spotlight: Blake Lively
Wed, 2011-09-28 15:53 | by AnonymousNow that Gossip Girl is back, we can't get our minds off of fashion inspired by Manhattan's elite. We love Blake Lively's style and how it has evolved and been influenced by her most notable character - Serena.
Peplums are super hot this season and a chic detail on LBD's. Get Blake's uptown girl look with Moschino or Rebecca Taylor.
Blake has the perfect figure for body conscious Herve Leger dresses, and we love the cut and neckline of this particular style. Get either of these Herve dresses for your next date or girls night and you'll be sure to turn heads just like Blake!
Talk about a Blonde beauty - Blake looks stunning in this strapless neon pink number. We love neon for Fall and this Shoshana dress or Black Halo frock do just the trick.
Blake is pretty and polished in this patterned shift dress. We love how simple and elegant her look is, and you can get it with this Tracy Reese dress or Nicole Miller shift.
Formal Event Attire
Wed, 2011-09-28 14:25 | by AnonymousA few of us attended the Young Patrons of Lincoln Center "Party on the Plaza" event on Monday night and had an absolutely fabulous time. The dress code was black tie, and got us thinking about appropriate attire for a Formal or Charity Event. Check out some of our picks and advice below!

When in doubt, go conservative.
When trying to decide what to wear to a formal or charity event, whether black tie or cocktail attire, it’s best to err on the conservative side. You can still make a statement in a gorgeous gown or frock, but sticking to less revealing necklines and cuts is best. If your hemline is short, go for more coverage on top and if your dress is floor length you have some liberty to try out a fun, interesting neckline. Here are some of our favorite gowns and cocktail dresses that are perfect for any formal event.
Accessorize intelligently.
When choosing how to accessorize your dress, we recommend sporting jewelry that complements, not overwhelms, the outfit. Go for simple earrings and a single strand of pearls if your dress is on the loud side, and feel free to go for more of a statement if your dress is simple. Here are some of our favorite pieces that work with a variety of dress styles.
Makeup and Hair: KIS (keep it simple).
This isn’t pageant world, and a “Snooki poof” isn’t necessarily an appropriate updo. Go for a blowout and get your makeup done if possible. If that’s not available, blow dry your hair straight and pull some of the front back with a chic barrette, or pull all of your hair back into a simple ballerina bun. Keep your makeup understated but a red or pink lip is always a great pop of color. Here are some of our favorite Lancome products.
Tuesday Tip: Citrus Hues
Tue, 2011-09-27 15:28 | by Anonymous
We were so inspired by Christian Siriano's Spring 2012 Runway show that we've started to work his colorful combos into our everyday lifestyle. Keep it bright this Fall by mixing citrus colored skirts and dresses with other muted pieces.
Pair a citrus hue with muted, nude heels and simple jewelry to get this effect. This is a great way to use summer colors in the fall months - here are some of our favs!

We can spot a DVF wrap dress from a mile away - let alone a whole mob of them! Groups of women have been running around NYC in DVF wrap dresses to promote her new fragrance, Diane. We have to admit we're a little jealous they didn't make a stop outside RTR headquarters. [Racked]

This look perfectly exemplifies Alexa's style: menswear inspired yet totally chic. Take a style note from Alexa with this Moschino Cheap and Chic Tuxedo dress, essential for a formal event this Fall or Winter.
Schoolgirl chic is one of Alexa's trademark looks, and we love how effortless this look is. Simply throw on a structured dress like this Proenza Schouler one, and you'll instantly look feminine and put together.
This ivory, textured dress accentuates Alexa's small waist and we love the edgy studded belt she paired it with. Wear this super flattering Opening Ceremony frock with sheer black tights and a statement necklace to get Alexa's look.
Tuesday Tip: Spice it up for Fall
Tue, 2011-09-20 15:16 | by AnonymousToday's Tuesday Tip is inspired by Sofia Vergara's Emmys ensemble. She paired a hot orangey-red dress with cool, emerald earrings that made for a perfect combo. We love the idea of mixing hot and cold colors to spice up an outfit for Fall (not that Sofia needs any spicing up!).

Make a statement this Fall by combining some of our newest bright dresses and cool accessories.

2 Emmys Red Carpet
We are such suckers for Red Carpet fashion, and absolutely loved the range of red dresses that graced the stage. From scarlet to red-orange, this hue made for a bold statement against some of the neutral toned dresses we saw.
3 Better than a Boozy Brunch
Pack a picnic and head north to Breakneck Ridge for a hike and some amazing scenic views. Be forewarned, the first hour is an uphill scramble up a rockface, but the way down is way friendlier. Got a car? Visit the Storm King sculpture garden on the way back.

4 NYC's Gotham Girls Roller Derby
NYC's Gotham Girls Roller Derby, and our own Jeannice, took their 2nd straight Eastern Regionals title. They are going to WFTDA (world/nationals) championship as #1 seed from the East. Good luck!

Friday Fashion Fun: Lanvin, Matthew Williamson for Laduree, and more
Fri, 2011-09-16 12:58 | by AnonymousNYFW x Lanvin
We hope you've seen Lanvin's Fall Campaign Video, because this version with New York Fashion Week attendees is absolutely hilarious and might even be better. [Racked]
Matthew Williamson x Laduree
We still aren't over the fact that Parisian sweets shop Laduree has opened in NYC, and to top it off, they've tapped into Matthew Williamson to design the packaging. We love the kaleidescope artwork that is reminiscent of his Resort 2012 collection. [WWD]

Fenton Statement Jewelry
For their Spring 2012 presentation, Fenton created a wedding-inspired scene at the Four Seasons restaurant. The eretheral setting was absolutely breathtaking and the art deco-inspired statement necklaces are a must have piece for the season. [Refinery29]

The Emmys: Red Carpet Predictions
Fri, 2011-09-16 10:55 | by AnonymousEach year, television's best come out to honor their peers and celebrate in style. We love guessing what our fav prime time stars will be wearing and if there will be any trends on the red carpet. This year, we expect to see a lot from designers' Resort 2012 collections. See our predictions below and be sure to tune into Twitter during the show this Sunday night - we'll be live tweeting!
Christina Hendricks is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for her role as Joan in Mad Men. With her vervacious curves and gorgeous skin, we have a feeling she'll go with something to suit her silhouette. This stunning Zac Posen dress from his Resort 2012 collection has to be a top contender.

Heidi Klum's Project Runway is again up for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program, and we bet she'll keep it in the family by wearing something from Michael Kors' Resort 2012 collection. This neon, cutout gown with a thigh-high slit screams Heidi!

Padma Lakshmi is one of our favorite hosts and we have a feeling that Top Chef will win Outstanding Reality-Competition Program again this year. She would look absolutely radiant accepting the award in this two toned Bibhu Mohapatra gown. A strapless neckline would eloquently emphasize her physique and her skin tone would be gorgeous against the white and pale yellow.
.jpg)
The Queen of Comedy has upped her game each year at the awards, and this year will be no exception. We would love to see her in a poppy colored Catherine Malandrino gown; the v-neckline would elongate her petite frame.
.jpg)
Funny and beautiful, Sofia Vergara is up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy for her role as Gloria in Modern Family. This striking Carlos Miele gown would play up all of Sofia's best assets and the ruby color is spectacular. Paired with some bold earrings, this look would no doubt place Sofia on the best-dressed list.

Elisabeth Moss' classic, timless style has always served her well; she was stunning in an emerald Oscar de la Renta gown at the Golden Globes this year. We would love to see her take some risks in this two-toned Preen dress that would give her a beautiful silhouette and elongate her stature.

Fashion Week Recap: Part 2
Fri, 2011-09-16 09:49 | by AnonymousDerek is back to recap the second half of New York Fashion Week! Some of the major trends we are seeing are peplum ruffles, neon, color blocked trousers and jackets, and vibrant prints. Check out his thoughts on the collections below.
(1).jpg)
Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thorton featured one of the this season's major trends, peplum ruffles, in almost all their looks. They also featured some rococo-ish black and white floral prints juxtaposed against multi-color pixelated backgrounds. The show was styled with many buttoned up shirt collars that have become the trademark of the "too cool for school "preen girl.

At Vera Wang, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian witnessed a stunning demonstration in tailoring and craftsmanship. Vera always loves to give a sporty feeling to her looks, and as a result many dresses and jackets featured hoods and other athletic touches. I loved the vibrant purples and yellows and the cool "melting painting" print used in many of the dresses.

Designer Amy Smilovic was in a minimalist mood for spring and sent a very focused collection down the runway. Interest came in the form of vibrant colors- namely turquoise and marigold yellow with a splash of cobalt blue. Ultra-wide, brightly colored trousers were another highpoint, especially when combined with a simple tank as the designer so often did.

Every girl sitting next to me gasped when look 1 came out- they were all in love with the color blocked low rise trousers. Narciso did them in several colors and next Spring they will be the go-to pant for many fashionistas. As usual, the whole collection was super chic and the fabrics were breathtaking and innovative.

I wasn't aware that fabric could be dyed so bright, but I am happy that it can be. Nanette featured the most brightly colored collection I have ever seen. Overall the show had a nice retro feel, but with a neon update. She also showcased the evolution of Fall's major lace trend: colored lace! She used some really interesting color combinations to give each look a fresh feel.

Anna's show was total fun, as always. She featured flowing chiffon dresses and blouses in a variety of prints ranging from hearts to butterflies. At the end of the show a 1920's vibe emerged, with many looks evoking Daisy Buchanan and her care free attitude.

The Proenza boys used their Spring show to demonstrate their love for tailoring and sent some beautiful color blocked jackets down the runway. Midway through the show some fun palm leaf prints emerged and by the end of it I felt like I was on a vacation in Tahiti, despite the venue being an abandoned warehouse.

Celebrity Chic: New York Fashion Week
Thu, 2011-09-15 17:36 | by AnonymousFashion Week is a major celeb magnet and we love catching what they wear to the shows. This year we saw everyone from Emma Roberts to Nicky Hilton, and they all wore something bold or sparkly to stand out in the front row. See their looks below!
Kelly Rutherford looks Gossip Girl chic at the Nanette Lepore show in this lacy red cap sleeve dress. We love how she plays up her femininity with the ribbon tie at the waist, and this Gryphon dress does just the trick.
Emma Roberts has been a regular on the fashion scene for some time now, and we love how she showed her playful, flirty side with this one shouldered cheetah print dress. Get Emma's look with a Mark & James by Badgley Mischka gold leopard frock.
Sophia Bush's gold mine look is perfect for emphasizing that end-of-summer tan. Go all gold with this Rachel Roy mini.
Nicki Hilton looks fab for Fall in this long sleeved sequin striped mini. We love the contrasting black and dark blue sequins, and this Milly frock will have you turning heads.

Style Spotlight: Michelle Williams
Wed, 2011-09-14 18:52 | by AnonymousIt's no surprise that Michelle Williams, having always exuded the utmost elegance and femininty, is starring as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. Her style has evolved eloquently from Jen in Dawson's Creek to Cindy in Blue Valentine, and we can't wait to see how her portrayal of Marilyn contributes to her own personal style. Check out some of our favorite looks below, and take a style note from Michelle for your next event this Fall!
Go with a structured cap sleeve and ribbon tapered waist for a put together, feminine look. This Proenza Schouler dress is perfect for that modern luxury vibe.
Who says you shouldn't wear white after Labor Day?! We suggest working this gorgeous Lela Rose one shouldered dress for Fall to get Michelle's look. Winter white is elegant and crisp, and looks fab with sheer black tights and sky high pumps.
Go full-on-feminine with sparkles, bows and flirtly, full skirts. Michelle is never afraid to play up her femininity, and works this outfit with complete confidence and grace. This Mark & James by Badgley Mishka frock is absolutely stunning, and brand new to our site!
Tuesday Tip: Lace for Fall
Tue, 2011-09-13 17:12 | by AnonymousLace is typically thought of as a super sexy, nighttime fabric that is not so versitile. This season, we are seeing lace used much more liberally and with edgy pieces. Pair a lacy dress with some chunky jewelry and a cropped jacket for day, or with sky high heels and a statement necklace for night. Rent any of our pairings below for an edgy, sexy outfit perfect for a party or girls night out this fall!
Fashion Week Recap: Part 1

Helmut Lang
Ultra cool and ultra chic draped separates and dresses in black, white and canary yellow. Looked like classic Helmut Lang from when the designer was at the height of popularity in the late 90's.

Christian Siriano
Christian paired striped t-shirts with maxi skirts in bright citrus colors. The highlight of the show was the accordion pleated poppy colored gown at the end of the show.

Yigal Azrouel
Yigal's well edited show featured clean lines and bold colors. Easy to wear but will also get the wearer noticed.

Prabal Gurung
Absolutely stunning. Featured dresses made of Tulle with bold colorblocked cutouts and sportswear in an beautiful abstract print. Gorgeous jackets, stunning gowns and all around an amazing show. Prabal really elevated his collection to an even higher level this season.

Zac Posen
For Spring Zac focused on what he has always done best- look at me gorgeous cocktail dresses and paparazzi magnet red carpet gowns. The gowns in the show were pure couture and were astonishingly plentiful. I can't even imagine how many man hours each of those dreams took to create.

Thakoon
Thakoon likes juxtaposition and this season he was inspired by cowboys and the country of India. He mixed colorful paisly print with gold lame inserts and the effect was incredibly creative and beautiful.

Lela Rose
Lela feature some amazing fabrics and embellishments this season. My favorite was the dot embroidered nude tulle that floated romantically down the runway.

Derek Lam
Derek Lam featured some gorgeous leather pieces and details on dresses. The show was sportswear focused, with some great knits, skirts and coats. Loved the black beaded sequin dress at the end- easy throw on glamour.

Opening Ceremony Keeps it Comfy
After the blisters and bruises our feet endured from a long (but successful) Fashion's Night OUt, we were thrilled to hear that Opening Ceremony had collaborated with Happy Socks. The box set includes four pairs of comfy, chic socks that they began selling during Fashion's Night Out. With the majority of fashion week still ahead of us, we are heading to pick up a few sets! [Refinery29]

Style Spotlight: Maria Sharapova
Wed, 2011-09-07 16:41 | by AnonymousWith the US Open going on and New York Fashion Week starting tomorrow, our minds are naturally on tennis and fashion. So why not combine the two in this week's style spotlight? Maria Sharapova is one of the world's best tennis players and she always looks good whether playing a match or on the red carpet. We take a look at her classic, fun style that can range from sporty and structured to flirty and feminine. Take a cue from the queen of the courts for your next event this fall.
Maria turns the heat up with this sultry navy bangage dress. Perfect for her athletic body, this dress accentuates all of her best assets. Try a darker color Herve Leger dress to get Maria's look.
Maria goes feminine and flirty with this black lace sleeve dress that brings out her softer, more delicate side. Get her look with this gorgeous Nina Ricci dress, essential for your next happy hour or date night.
This structured leopard print frock is fun and fashion forward. The cut draws attention to her toned legs and the belt creates some curves. We love this Tibi dress that is perfect for a girls night out.
Royal blue does wonders for a blonde, and Maria wears this dress just right with a blazer and statement necklace. Nanette Lepore does this cobalt color perfectly and it can be easily accessorized with with bold jewelry.
Talk about an attention getter, this three-quarter sleeve bronze sequined mini emulates Maria's style entirely. Perfect for any hair color, gold/bronze sequins are a great way to switch up your style. We love this Rachel Roy sheath; it's called the Warrior Princess Dress for a reason!
Maria brings it back to the court with this full skirted dress. We love the classic modern twist on the ruffled skirt, and can't help but draw a connection to some of the fashion we've seen on the court. This Proenza Schouler dress gives classic a modern twist and the pleated skirt makes it oh-so-proper and perfect for any event.
Celebrity Chic: Sarah Michelle Gellar vs. Brittany Snow
Wed, 2011-09-07 14:27 | by AnonymousIt's no question that both ladies look fab in this strapless Rebecca Taylor dress, but who wore it better? They both paired it with nude pumps, and Sarah Michelle opted for a sleek blazer to complete her look. Brittany went with simple accessories and kept her hair up to accentuate the sweetheart neckline. So you choose - who wore it better? (plus, rent this dress here!)
Tuesday Tip: Pairing Pink + Red
Tue, 2011-09-06 17:28 | by AnonymousClashing colors and prints is one of the biggest trends of the season and pairing pink and red is one of our favorites. This may seem like a fashion no-no, but after seeing it on the runways and multiple cover stars we officially give the go ahead. Pair hot, bold pinks with saturated reds to get the desired effect. We put together some simple ways below to emulate the trend this fall.

New York Magazine never fails to come up with some of the most highlarious parodies on pop culture. They released lyrics to Babyonce's (aka Beyonce and Jay-Z's child) first single set to the tune of "If I Were a Boy" and needless to say it is beyond entertaining. You can catch us switching up the lyrics to Beyonce's initial hit next time we are getting ready to go out.

Behind the Seams: Sachin + Babi
Fri, 2011-09-02 14:22 | by Anonymous
This husband and wife duo has been the go to resource for textile design and embroidery within the design and couture world for over a decade. Their namesake collection, which launched almost three years ago, exhibits a blend of pretty and etheral with edge and fashion forwardness. We went behind the seams with the designers to find out how the story behind their last line, their favorite trends as of late, and more.

Tell me the story behind your last line:
The overtone of the collection is very "rock and roll chic". I wanted to really look at the woman who would be wearing these clothes and create pieces that conveyed a sense of edginess and seriousness, while at the same time, highlight her femininity. I think that a woman is most beautiful when you look at her strengths and weaknesses, her silhouette and her shadow... This collection celebrates who she is and how she feels.
What is something you dream of achieving, but haven't yet?
I'm not telling....
How would you describe your own style?
My personal style is fairly classic and casual.

What is your favorite trend right now?
Color, color, color!
What was your proudest moment as a designer?
Babi and I were in a store where we met a mother and daughter with their arms full of our Sachin and Babi dresses. The mother had given her daughter this shopping spree as a graduation gift. The daughter selected 3 of our dresses and her mom bought one too! It was so rewarding to see that our line transcended generations.

If you could give advice to aspiring designers, what would it be?
Be relevant. There must be a reason for why you and your designs exist. It should be about "her", not you.
Friday Fashion Fun: Cynthia Rowley's Glambulance, Helmut Lang Runway, and more
Fri, 2011-09-02 14:10 | by AnonymousCynthia Rowley Glambulance
In prep for this year's Fashion's Night Out, Cynthia Rowley teams up with Band-Aid to launch a "Glambulance" stocked with hairstylists, make-up artists, and fashionable first-aid kits. With all the store hopping (in high heels) that occurs, we are sure this fashionable aid will be put to good use. Keep an eye out for the "Glambulance" on September 8th! [Refinery 29]

Helmut Lang Show
Helmut Lang is putting on their first fashion show since 2005. Creative directors Nicole and Michael Colovos started at the brand in 2006 after Theory bought the label from Prada, and we can't wait to see how they put on the show. You can watch it streamed live Saturday, September 10th, on helmutlang.com. [The Cut]

Elin Kling Styles Tibi
We are huge fans of stylist Elin Kling (her blog is amazing) and so thrilled that she will be styling Tibi's Spring 2012 runway show and campaign. The Swedish blogger's clean, femine style will no doubt complement the Tibi brand brilliantly. [Style.com]
