No Pain, No Gain?
Thu, 2011-06-30 14:14 | by Anonymous
Christian Louboutin came out with a new ballet-inspired 8-inch heel that's fully bedazzled in Swarovski crystals. If you’re unwilling to squeeze into a leotard and walk around on your toes, might we recommend some sparkles that are a little less painful? These Judith Leiber clutches have just as much eye-catching shine without the need for eventual foot surgery. Pick one for your next evening at the ballet, and let the professionals dance en pointe.

Wed, 2011-06-29 13:04 | by AnonymousHow cute is this? The Smurfs star Smurfette models this season’s latest must-have accessories for a feature in Harper’s Bazaar. She shows off looks from Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, and Louis Vuitton, and frankly, we’re a little jealous that she’s gotten her hands on all these cool designer pieces.

Style Spotlight: Kelly Rowland
Wed, 2011-06-29 12:47 | by AnonymousWhile she may have gotten her start in matching outfits as a member of Destiny’s Child, Kelly Rowland has clearly moved on from the bra tops and pleather dresses. Though Kelly has still been known to sport neon colors and occasionally rock a crop top, her style is more refined, favoring figure-flattering dresses and metallic accessories. This evolution from costume sets to stand-out solo style makes Kelly deserving of this week’s Style Spotlight.
With a hot Hervé Léger bandage dress, Kelly steps out of Beyonce’s shadow. Add a stack of sparkly bangles and metallic heels to complete the look.
Try Kelly’s easy-fitting, gray jersey for a dinner party with friends. The look is super flattering and super comfy!
Kelly flaunts her figure in this gorgeous blue dress. Take her lead and try this Nicole Miller ruched dress with stunning earrings for an evening wedding.

In Your 40's

10 Things We Love 6.27.11
Mon, 2011-06-27 14:53 | by Anonymous
When we say the complete look, we mean head to toe. Lancôme products are now available to purchase at Rent the Runway so you can get the gloss to go with the dress. Who's excited?
If you’re heading to Key West, Florida on vacation, our PR Director AJ suggests Santiago’s tapas restaurant for a big group.
3 NY Legalizes Same-Sex Marriage
It couldn’t have been a more perfect timing. With Governor Andrew Cuomo’s support the state of New York legalized same-sex marriage just in time for Pride Weekend!

The celeb-favorite has landed at Rent the Runway. Finally!
5 Red Hook
Jenny loves the Red Hook lobster food truck, especially now that it parks outside our office!
6 True Blood
Our intern Megan is super excited about the new season of True Blood, more specifically a new season of watching Alexander Skarsgard.

7 Spritzenhaus
Erica loves the new 6,000 square foot beer hall and gastropub in Greenpoint, the sister to Spitzer's Corner in the Lower East Side. What’s not to love about over 100 beers on tap, a wood-burning oven, tasty German treats and a marble bar?

No more excuses for skipping yoga class. Chondita loves the podcasts from the NY studio, Yoga to the People.
Stylist Alissa just saw the Cirque du Soleil show Zarkana at Radio City Music Hall and highly recommends it. Book your tickets before the show moves to Spain in November!
10 Wordle
Check out a word cloud of what comes up most in our dress names! It’s even more proof that we love sequins, ruffles, and lace.

Get the Look: Gold Rush
Mon, 2011-06-27 12:13 | by Lara CrystalNo time for a vacation? Fake a summer glow with shimmering bronze makeup shades. This versatile look can be adapted to fit any warm-weather occasion, from a black tie wedding to a bonfire on the beach.
Step 1
After applying your foundation and concealer, push the button at the end of the Lancôme Star Bronzer All Over Magic Bronzing Brush to dispense product, then tap the brush into a tissue to get rid of any excess. For the most believable glow, sweep across areas of your face that the sun hits naturally—the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, and the top of your forehead.
Step 2
Following the application guide that comes in the compact, apply Lancôme’s Color Design 5 Shadow & Liner Palette in Bronze Amour. Start with a wash of the palest shade across lids, and apply the others as labeled. For daytime, skip the crease color. For an evening look, tap the shadow onto lids to get maximum shimmer payoff.
Step 3
A bronze smoky eye is particularly striking on those with blue or green eyes. To make eyes pop even more, a navy pencil liner like Lancôme Le Crayon Khôl EyeLiner in Black Lapis will create a cool contrast against the golden shades. Curl lashes, and finish with one coat of Lancôme Hypnôse Custom Volume Mascara in Black.
Step 4
A swipe of Lancôme Juicy Tubes Lipgloss in Miracle completes the look.

Friday Fashion Fun: Escada, Versace x H&M, Alice Temperley
Fri, 2011-06-24 14:36 | by AnonymousThis week Escada ups their cool factor, H&M announces their newest designer collaboration, + Pippa Middleton’s fashion followers are let down by some news from Alice Temperley. Want details? Read on!
With a brightly-hued capsule collection designed by Jonathan Saunders, Escada is reaching out to a younger customer through their diffusion line, Escada Sport. Saunders’ 2012 resort collection jazzes up the luxury brands' signature houndstooth in vivid colors, and his color-block designs are right on trend. Now that Saunders is on board, it’s clear that this isn’t your grandmother’s Escada anymore. [Blackbook]
Mark your calendars for November 19 when H&M’s latest designer collaboration hits stores worldwide because you’ll definitely want to pick up a hot little Versace number. Donatella Versace is designing a collection inspired by iconic pieces in the brand’s history, making this a launch you won’t want to miss. [Fashionista]

The Royal Wedding’s breakout star, Pippa Middleton, inspired fashion lust all over the world in the gorgeous gowns she wore for the ceremony and the reception. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to get either one. Alice Temperley, who designed the emerald-green dress Pippa wore to the reception, was inundated with requests for the dress, but she says it was a design made exclusively for Miss Middleton. RTR Hearts: Fashion Insiders
Fri, 2011-06-24 10:41 | by Brooke BrownStymied by too many stunning styles on RTR?
Dizzied by all the dazzling jewels?
Not to fret- our Fashion Insiders share their RTR ♥s for this summer edit.
“This summer prepare to shine. Embellishment and high metallics are the look du jour and are no longer reserved for the red carpet or formal events. Style with a jean jacket, a chunky piece of jewelry, hair in a loose ponytail and a flat sandal to dazzle."
-Zanna Roberts, Senior Fashion Editor, Marie Claire USA
"The perfect summer dresses are effortlessly chic and equally appropriate for sweltering days at the office, rooftop cocktails with friends, and weekend celebrations. With the right pair of shoes, a fresh frock will have you feeling instantly pulled together.
-Nola Weinstein, Style Editorial Director, Glam.com
"Sometimes not having the right piece or the right shoe is a blessing in disguise. The expected is predictable- repurposing day shoes for evening or evening pieces with a sweater for day is creative and how new looks get invented. There are no new pieces, only new combinations of pieces, so mix it up- there is no right or wrong, it's all just opinion."
-Annabel Tollman, Celebrity Stylist

Thursday Obsession 6/23/11
Thu, 2011-06-23 13:36 | by AnonymousEdgy and cute might not seem like words that could both describe the same thing, but Eddie Borgo’s Capsule Collection for J. Crew fits both adjectives perfectly. We’re totally obsessed with the combination of sweet bows and sassy studs on these pins, and we would stick one on a blazer, a tote bag, a belt, and anything else we could find!
Style Note: Colorful Prints
Thu, 2011-06-23 10:24 | by AnonymousTired of your go-to LBDs? Break out of your rut with a fun, printed cocktail dress. Glee’s resident school counselor Jayma Mays looks fresh and summery in her strapless, watercolor-print dress. Her neutral, nude-hued accessories and pulled-back hair don’t compete with her colorful dress, allowing it to stand out.

Steal Jayma’s look for your next cocktail party with any of these great options. We love how her dress shines with understated accessories, but we also love Jayma’s dark blue nails, so get wild and pick a polish that matches a color from your print.
Italian Summer
Thu, 2011-06-23 06:54 | by Lara CrystalWith George Clooney back on the market, we hope you've started planning your trip to Lake Como to make your move before the next model enters the fray. What to pack for an Italian summer vacay? We've rounded up some of our favorite summer styles from Italian designers Missoni, Moschino, and Alberta Ferretti. Which one do you think will win George over?
Style Spotlight: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Wed, 2011-06-22 18:25 | by AnonymousAs a Victoria’s Secret model, Rosie Huntington-Whitely has spent plenty of time in her skivvies. But when it comes to the red carpet, it seems that the girl actually does know what to put on over her underpinnings. Since landing the lead female role in the upcoming Transformers 3, her style profile has been rising and this week we put Rosie’s fashion front and center in our Style Spotlight.
Rosie looks downtown cool in this basic black silhouette, and the sparkles add a touch of glam. Borrow the look with this sequined Milly dress and black Carlos Falchi clutch for a girls’ night out.
Show off your slammin’ bod like Rosie in a Hervé Léger bandage dress. Choose an attention-grabbing red and pair it with this Judith Leiber clutch to bring all the boys to the yard.
Let Rosie inspire you to take the plunge in a white dress with a deep V-neck. Go for Hollywood glamour in this Narciso Rodriguez dress and Ciner bracelet.
RTR Hearts: Lucy Sykes
Tue, 2011-06-21 20:41 | by Brooke Brown
"I never ever tire of The Black Dress. I especially love 'summer black' as it gives that little edge and is as flattering as candle light."
"There is something beautifully black for everyone this season from short and lacey to chiffon and jersey. Black glamour is fit for any event, be it a rooftop dinner or your very own movie premiere- you choose. Simply swoop your hair up ala the 'Black Swan' bun, add a smokey eye and a lot of lipgloss (editors note: keep the skin lightly made up to stay young and chic). Done. J’adore." Lucy
Meet Lucy
Lucy Sykes Rellie is a fashion consultant and creative director who has collaborated with Ralph Lauren, Judith Leiber, Tommy Hilfiger, Ports 1961 and most recently Rent the Runway. The British born fashionista arrived in NYC in 1995 and has worked as a stylist on staff at Allure, Town & Country and Harpers Bazaar. Lucy was also the Fashion Director of Marie Claire for 6 years. We love working with Lucy and remain in awe of her smart and effortless style.
Tuesday Tip: What Goes Underneath
Tue, 2011-06-21 18:30 | by AnonymousWe love the surprise of a dress with an exposed back, but as you probably know, finding the right undergarments can be tricky. This week, we give you some options that will help you rock that dress with complicated straps or no back and still feel comfortable.
If you’re renting a strapless dress and don’t want to constantly be pulling it up, try these adhesives from Braza that keep your dress in place. No need to be concerned about indecent exposure in this Brian Reyes dress on the dance floor!
If you’re going totally backless, there’s no way to wear a bra without it showing, so your best bet would be Nubra adhesive bra cups that clasp in the front and stick right on. The Lace Me Up dress from Temperley London with its slivers of skin exposed on the sides and criss-crossed open back leave nowhere to hide a bra.
If you need the back closure of your bra to dip down just a little lower in a dress style like this gorgeous Halston Heritage, Braza makes a back bra converter that will give you support and keep your bra from being too obvious.
Style Note: Black and White
Mon, 2011-06-20 17:12 | by AnonymousAt the Women in Film Awards this weekend, Katie Holmes looked picture-perfect in a Max Mara black and white cocktail dress. Accessorizing with minimal jewelry and nude pumps, Katie looks chic and red carpet ready to accept her award as the “Face of the Future.”

Black and white is definitely a go-to for any occasion, and we love the way Katie makes the look super sophisticated with neutral accessories. Look flawless at your next cocktail party by paring neutral pumps with one of these picks from RTR.

The renowned fashion photographers tell us how to get a picture perfect look.

Like father, like daughter. Arthur Elgort and his fabulous daughter Sophie share a mutual love of the lense, an exceptional eye for fashion, and accomplished careers. Arthur Elgort has been shooting for Conde Nast magazines for over 42 years and recently received the prestigious Special Tribute Award from The Council of Fashion Designers of America. Sophie has amassed an impressive client list of her own which includes Alice + Olivia, Teen Vogue, and Women’s Wear Daily. Her effortless sense of personal style make her own of our favorite tastemakers and RTR fans.
CLICK HERE to see Arthur & Sophie's picks for RTR's most photogenic styles.
Follow Sophie & Arthur's 5 tips to get your own photo finish:
1. On what to wear: Father and daughter both agree to wear something you can move in like the Preen Bridget Dress.
2. On color: Arthur is partial to black like the Prabal Garung Perfect Hourglass Dress, but Sophie thinks color makes a stunning statement like the Calvin Klein Collection Donalda Dress.
3. On shoes: Arthur prefers a classic skinny heel like feminine Manolo Blahniks. Sophie agrees but likes to mix it up with modern chunky platforms. If you're tall, they both agree that a beautiful pair of flats can be utterly elegant with a dress.
4. On finishing touches: Keep your hair simple and don’t be too fussy. Never fail options are pulling it back in a pony tail or bun or wearing it down.
5. Above all else: Be comfortable in your look so that your personality can show through. It's easy to get a good photo when the model or subject can be herself.

Friday Fashion Fun: Prabal Gurung's New Thing
Fri, 2011-06-17 12:51 | by AnonymousTo celebrate the launch of his first ever resort collection, one of our favorite designers, Prabal Gurung, produced a music video with Rye Rye, an emerging rap-dance artist from Baltimore. The video, titled “New Thing,” is inspired by the collection’s flashy neon colors, floral patterns, and graphic prints, and of course, showcases Rye Rye wearing pieces from the collection.
With its catchy dance beats and punchy visual effects, the video is so spectacularly fun that it deserves this week's post all to itself. We are looking forward to dancing around in Prabal’s resort wear while listening to more Rye Rye...
Style Awards: Anniversary Star
Fri, 2011-06-17 09:42 | by Lara CrystalCongratulations to this week's style awards winner Brianne Allen. Brianne and her husband decided to do a photo shoot for their one year anniversary and the Omala necklace by Dannijo was the perfect show-stopping piece.
Father's Day Gift Guide
Thu, 2011-06-16 14:09 | by AnonymousIn case you forgot, Father’s Day is this Sunday, and dear old dad definitely needs some recognition. After all those years of support, it’s the one day a year that reminds you to show your appreciation. Let Dad know how much he means to you with one of these fun gifts.
For the Style-Conscious Dad
Make dad will think of you every time he wears this Brooks Brothers tie or pulls out one of these kitschy Jack Spade money clips that identify his cash as “cheddar” or “bones.” If he's into reading about fashion, you can also help him make sure his wardrobe is complete by reading up on the history of men’s style in Josh Sims’ book Icons of Men’s Style.
For the Gadget-Loving Dad
Give your dad a reason to dust off his old records and relive his favorite musical moments of his youth with this USB Turntable from Audio-Technica. The turntable is even capable of converting the records into mp3s, so he can take his oldies favorites with him anywhere. If he's not spinning tunes, then sure Dad is grilling to perfection with this iGrill Cooking Thermometer and app for his iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
For the Sporty Dad
If your dad is a major sports fan, he’ll love this boxed set of 30 for 30 documentaries from ESPN that explores pivotal moments in sports history. You can also sign him up for the Craft Beer Club's Beer of the Month Club to enjoy different microbrews as he watches the DVDs or a live game.
Happy early Father's Day to all the dads out there!

With a new picture of decadent desserts or savory dishes every day, you’ll be wishing you had a personal chef whipping them up on your way home.
Warning: be prepared for serious food lust.

Style Spotlight: Cameron Diaz
Wed, 2011-06-15 12:45 | by AnonymousHer latest movie may have her playing a bad teacher, but Cameron Diaz definitely does not have bad fashion sense. She’s been on the celebrity circuit for years and has mastered tasteful but attention grabbing red carpet style. Cameron loves to show off her tanned and toned legs in short skirts and her smokin’ hot bod in form-fitting dresses. Her consistency and knowledge of what looks good makes Ms. Diaz our choice for this week’s Style Spotlight.
Get Cam’s leggy look with this Mark & James by Badgley Mischka dress and pair it with this AV Max Gold Dome Bangle for a glam night out.
Cameron looks youthful yet sophisticated in this chic black romper. Take a break from your go-to dresses and try camilla and marc’s asymmetrical romper with a cool cocktail ring like this one by Kenneth Jay Lane.
Looking simply red hot, Cameron rocks a slimming, one shoulder dress. Take a note from the celeb and try this Preen dress and Azaara hoop earrings for a movie star look.
Style Note: Spicing Up a Basic LBD
Tue, 2011-06-14 17:43 | by AnonymousAt this month’s Spike TV Guy’s Choice Awards, Jennifer Aniston rocked a tight-fitting little black dress. Hers is the quintessential LBD with no frills…and no excitement. Jen always looks great and we love the classic simplicity of her look, but if it were up to us, we’d like to spice it up a bit.

Take Jennifer’s basic black foundation and build on it with colorful statement jewelry. If you’re feeling especially bold, try out some colorful heels and kick your look up to the next level.

Tuesday Tip: Get a Jump on July 4th
Tue, 2011-06-14 12:47 | by AnonymousWith the Fourth of July only three weeks away, it’s not too soon to start planning a festive wardrobe to celebrate our independence. Whether you’re staying in town or heading to the nearest body of water, you’ll want to be prepared to honor the national holiday in style.
For daytime activities, like a family brunch or a barbecue with friends, a white dress is a perfect choice to battle a hot day in the sun. Breezy white eyelet is on trend and easily paired with gold accessories and this season’s wooden wedges.
Evening cocktails and fireworks call for you to take the glam up a notch. Keep showing your American pride in a little red, white, or blue number and a chic clutch.
Naturally, you’ll need a few other easy pieces to pack for the weekend. Here are some great go anywhere pieces.

Style Note: Summer Benefits
Fri, 2011-06-10 12:03 | by AnonymousIf you’re wondering how to pull off an elegant look for an upcoming summer charity benefit, take a cue from the lovely Duchess of Cambridge. The newest and chicest member of Britain’s royal family, Kate Middleton, appeared last night at a charity gala wearing a gorgeous floor-length Jenny Packham gown.

We love the gown’s neutral shimmer, which is festive and party-appropriate yet understated and classy at the same time. There’s no fussy up-do or excessive eye make-up for this princess. She stuck to her tried-and-true loose hair and simple make-up to complement the glitter of her gown.
Kate continues to show us that eye-catching fashion doesn’t necessarily mean flashy or over-dramatic, and for that, we bow down.

Thu, 2011-06-09 14:50 | by Anonymous
On Tuesday, TOMS announced a new addition to the One for One program: sunglasses. Similar to their shoe program, for each pair of sunnies you snatch up, the company will give the gift of sight to one person in need. Your purchase can help someone receive a necessary medical treatment, a pair of prescription glasses, or a sight-saving surgery.
There’s an array of classic styles to choose from and we’re personally loving the Classic 201, a glamorous oversize shade. Looking stylish while helping those in need- what’s not to be obsessed with?
Style Spotlight: Liv Tyler
Wed, 2011-06-08 15:53 | by Lara CrystalThough she may have grown up in her rocker dad’s shadow, Liv Tyler is a fashion force all her own. Her edgy sophistication sets her apart from her peers, and just this week she surfaced at the CFDA Fashion Awards on the arms of the award winning Proenza Schouler designers, confirming her fashionable status. With Lazarro +Jack as fans, we think she deserves some time in the Style Spotlight.
Award Winning Style
Liv’s Proenza Schouler at the CFDAs this week offers a conservative cut with bright colors incorporated into the pattern. Get the look with this Missoni dress and this black Kara Ross clutch.
Downtown Glam
Liven up a basic black dress like Liv with polka dot sheer overlay. Pair this Pencey dress with these CC Skye earrings for an added edge.
Street Style
Copy Liv’s classy street style with this Yumi Kim floral dress and pair it with these funky gold hoops by Citrine by the Stones.
Style Note: First Lady Looks
Wed, 2011-06-08 12:24 | by Lara CrystalWho says sparkles are just for the holidays and long cream gowns are just for brides? Embellished cream frocks are a definite DO for this summer.

We swoon for the First Lady in this ivory beaded Naeem Khan gown at last night's White House state dinner. Michelle – love how you break the rules yet always set the tone for what is appropriate and FAB. Way to make our nation proud! Here are some of our top First Lady inspired dresses for your next stately affair.

Behind the Seams: Shoshanna
Sun, 2011-06-05 12:19 | by Lara CrystalDesigner Shoshanna Gruss embraces color, curves, and finds the fun in fashion - a woman after our own hearts. Since bursting onto the scene in 1998, she has grown her collection to include dresses, sportswear, swimwear - and you can find her wares in more than 500 stores nationwide. We went behind the seams with Shoshanna to find out what makes her tick and what's coming up in 2011. -- Lara
What inspired your latest collection?
My collections always start with a color story, which for spring was a nice blend of soft neutrals and dramatic bold prints. The contrast between the two, remind me of the change in seasons when I like to switch out my wardrobe and slowly start sprinkling in hints of great color!
What new concepts or materials did you introduce in this collection?
The spring collection was the first season we introduced a fabric called blossom jacquard in three different silhouettes. This particular fabric looks like a printed dress, but is really made up of the most intricate woven cotton blend.
Which part of the design process do you like the best?
I love the feeling of starting from scratch, when the sky is truly the limit and we begin looking at new fabrics, beads and silhouettes. It is so exciting to see the transformation of an idea turning into something like a one shoulder beaded dress!
How do you celebrate finishing a collection?
We have over eight collections per year with swim, baby girl and the Charlotte Ronson collaboration, so by the time we finish one season we have already moved onto the next. It is hard to find time to actually sit down and celebrate. However, the ultimate satisfaction for me comes when I see someone wearing one of my designs on the street!
What words would you use to describe Shoshanna?
Celebratory, functional, wearable and beautiful.
How is the Shoshanna brand growing in 2011?
Since the launch of my collection in 1998, I have always grown the business in a very organic way by adding new categories as it seems fit. This year while designing the next swim line, we have put an emphasis on cover ups and will be adding a new variety of silhouettes, fabrics and embellishments.
If a girl was going to purchase her first Shoshanna piece, what would it be?
A dress, it is the signature piece from Shoshanna!
