Your Royal Highness
All aboard the Royal Wedding train! It’s the only thing that’s been on our radar today and the big reveal finally happened. Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen designed the wedding dress for the Queen-to-be and we thought she was picture perfect. The hats, flower girls and prince made it all a wedding to remember. What was your favorite part? [TheCut]
Following Up on D&G
Last week we informed you that D&G was designing all of Kylie Minogue and Matthew Morrison’s concert wear. Click here for a refresher. Now there’s something even better. You could be the designer of her next T-shirt! D&G and Kylie are asking for every designer-in-the-making to submit a T-shirt design. The winner of the contest will have the t-shirt signed and worn by Kylie herself and photographed under the D&G label. Make sure you submit by May 11 and click here for details. Are you submitting a design? [WWD]

Thursday Obsession 4/28/2011
Thu, 2011-04-28 16:33 | by AnonymousEvery now and then there’s a time when (coincidentally) everyone in the office needs and wants the same thing. Fashionable functionality seems to be that thing this week, from Burberry’s foldable sunglasses to a water bottle with a built in Brita filter. What none of us can argue with is this Marc Jacobs treasure.
You no longer have to hold your umbrella when you're not using it. just slip it in the front pocket of your matching tote! Rainy April here we come! Check it out here.
Stylists' Picks: Mother's Day
Thu, 2011-04-28 14:15 | by AnonymousMother’s Day is officially an RTR holiday! It’s all about spending time with Mom, pampering her and making sure that she feels like a star. What better way to do that than by letting her celebrate a day dedicated to her in a fabulous designer look? Our stylists share how they’re making Mom feel special in RTR. What is your b wearing this Mother’s Day?
Ashley
Mom’s Style: Feminine, comfortable and vibrant - to match her red hair!
My Mom will be celebrating her 35th wedding anniversary with my Dad in Charleston, South Carolina this Mother's Day. Of course, Rent the Runway will be in her suitcase. I’ve pre-selected the Nina Ricci Sweet as Sugar Dress and Crystal Belle Earrings for Sunday night.
Rachel
Mom’s Style: All about comfort!
I respect my Mom for embracing her natural beauty- she doesn't even own make-up! This Mother's Day, not only will she be soaking up the sunny rays with my Father in Florida, but she will shine in the new Love Me In Lemon Dress and Black Magic Clutch. I love you Mom!
Alissa
Mom’s Style: Classic and very feminine- she loves anything with an accentuated waist, florals, ruffles and bows :)
My Mom is heading to Santa Barbara to have Mother’s Day with her mom and sisters. I’ve made sure she’ll look the part in the Lela Rose Ivory Ombre Dream Dress and Dannijo cuff.
Amy
Mom’s Style: Simple, tailored and feminine!
My Mom may be missing both of her daughters who live in NYC, but that's not going to stop her from celebrating her special day of appreciation. She will get the attention she deserves when she shows up to lunch with the girls in the Eva Sheath Dress by Milly and Lovely Bouquet Earrings.
Justine
Mom’s Style: Cowboy chic, laid back casual
My Mom lives in jeans and cowboy boots everyday, so for Mother's Day I'd love to dress her up in this Badgley Mischka shift and the new Hespera Necklace by Gemma Redux- she loves turquoise!
Emily
Mom’s Style: So original. She’s all about being funky and sassy- her two favorite words!
With one daughter in New York and the other about to graduate from college my Mom is laying low this Mother’s Day. We're putting off the big day by one week to celebrate all together at my sister’s graduation where I will be dressing Mom in the Zebra Sophisticate Dress and the new Indus Necklace by Nicole Romano.
RTR Style Spotlight: Diane Kruger
Wed, 2011-04-27 13:40 | by AnonymousEvery now and then we’ll see a picture of an effortless outfit and our hearts flutter. That’s pretty much a given with this week’s Style Spotlight celeb, Diane Kruger. We racked our brains trying to figure out if she’s ever had a fashion “don’t” moment and came up empty handed. Cheers to Diane and her perfectly chic style. What’s your favorite Kruger look?
Red Hot Kruger
Diane can wear pretty much anything and this Preen dress is no exception. This dress hugs in all the right places and with a pair of silver sandals and the Ted Rossi Mirror Grid Cuff, you’re ready for your close up.
Diane Divine
She frequently rocks the long one shoulder gown on the red carpet but this is one of our favorites. Channeling this look can be done with the David Meister Ultra Gown and Lauren Merkin Georgie Clutch.
Kruger Me Black
Yellow shoes, fur and braided hair are all you need to replicate this look. With the Yigal Azrouel Open Back Noir Dress and the Love Torn Clutch you’re on your way to Krugerville. As if you couldn't be more on point, open up the clutch and there's a strap inside so you can wear it just as she does.
Style Me: Graduation
Tue, 2011-04-26 15:32 | by Anonymous‘Tis the season for graduation, arriving at a school near you. Before the perpetual “what am I going to wear” frenzy hits, make sure you’re covered. Whether you are the one walking the stage, invited and supportive, or the Mom who will be in tears of joy, we’ve got the dresses that will turn the frenzy into a happy experience. What will you be wearing? Share with us in the comments!
Grade-A Graduate
You are the graduate and this day is all about you. Soak it in and don’t stop smiling in these strapless frocks by Carlos Miele, Lela Rose and Brian Reyes.
Mom With Honors
The last thing you want to think about is fussing with your outfit while you’re taking pictures and holding your tears back. These are all pieces you can wear without thinking twice from Ports 1961, Alberta Ferretti and Christian Cota.
Proud and Pretty
You’re in attendance and couldn’t be more proud of the graduate. There will be celebrations to follow the ceremony, so make sure you are ready to make a toast in Proenza, BCBG and Tracy Reese.
Dress Diaries: Time to Celebrate
Tue, 2011-04-26 09:44 | by AnonymousThis Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Abby Bales
I have been loving the dresses I've rented from Rent the Runway in the past and wanted to share the fabulously fashionable experience with one of my best friends for her 30th birthday. For a while RTR was my little secret, but friends who care will definitely share!
Monica and I met attending college in Colorado together and have been friends for over 10 years. It’s no surprise that when we both moved to NY we would be sharing all of New York experiences together. When it was time to answer the big birthday question- What am I going to wear? - I had to get her to use RTR.
I chose both of our dresses (and Monica's request) for dinner and drinks to celebrate the festive occasion. I wore the Gryphon Metal Chain Striped Dress and paired it with nude python heels and gold bangles and earrings for a laid-back yet stylish look for a night on the town. I loved my dress and received compliments all night.
For the birthday girl, I thought something a little more sparkly and fun that said "Hey, it's my birthday!" would be appropriate. I chose the Badgley Mischka Fifth Avenue Showstopper Dress and she wore her favorite white kitten heels and her always gorgeous smile. Monica looked amazing and felt special in her fabulous dress as we hit up all our favorite places in Tribeca with the girls into the wee hours of the morning. It was a great night and super-fun way to celebrate such a big birthday.
Now I can say that we can't wait for the next excuse to Rent the Runway!
10 Things We Love 4/25/2011
Mon, 2011-04-25 16:03 | by Anonymous
1 The Royal Wedding
The Royal Wedding is this Friday, the 29th and we are gearing up for the big revealing. Who designed Kate's dress? What will she look like? We've been channeling the Royal Wedding in hues of blue, these royal looks and the occassional British accent... not to mention some of us will be waking up at 4AM to see everything happen live!
This weekend was all about the Tribeca Film Festival! Already on our roster of movies watched are Black Butterflies, The Good Doctor and Limelight. All of them were great films- if you like Orlando Bloom, a deep look at NYC club scene back in the day and South African poets, they are all on your must see list. Up next is the YSL documentary, L'Amour Fou. What are you watching thsis time around? Get your tickets here!
3 Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday was cheery in NYC with the warm weather and sun that we've been missing for way too long. Nisha's favorite part about Easter was definitely the beautiful Easter dresses and the giggles of children as they hunt for Easter eggs and rifle through their baskets. What was your favorite part?
Blaire enjoyed a delicious Easter Sunday brunch at David Burke's Fishtail this weekend. Her best suggestion? The cheesecake lollipop tree. Yum!
Neil's loving Kelsey Quan's point of view on accessories. She chose to display her accessories by taking some of her favorite art pieces and adding the jewelry to it. Art + Quan's accessories = one very serious fashion statement. Check out the pieces- art and accessories- here.
6 Soap Dispensers
We are all excited about the new sutomatic soap dispensers in the bathrooms here at RTR headquarters. RTR's moving on up!
7 Scissor Sisters
This was too much to pass up the list. Here's a shot of the Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters performing at Cocahella wearing the gold version of our favorite Peter Soronen sequin dresses.
We've all been here: you hear a song and get it stuck in your head. Then you realize you don't actually understand the words you've been jamming out to. Enter RapGenius.com. This is for rap lovers everywhere- anyone can create an account and interpret the lines. Those explanations that are applauded the most get a boost in their Rap IQ. Check it out here.
New favorite brunch spot? The Mark Restaurant, the new Jean Georges spot at the Mark Hotel. If you haven't been, make sure to go soon and make a reservation before the word gets out and you won't make it until the 4th of July. Olivia suggests the Steamed Shrimp Salad with Avocado and Enoki Champagne Dressing for a no-fail delicous meal.
10 Lani Kai
This week AJ was feeling like spring, so she headed to Lani Kai, a tiki-style lounge in SoHo. The mojitos are made to keep you coming back and you may as well- the downstairs area is perfect for a birthday party.
Royal Wedding Picks from Brit Sophie Kinsella
Mon, 2011-04-25 11:27 | by AnonymousThis content was brought to Rent the Runway by Sophie Kinsella, author of the Shopaholic Series.
Sophie Kinsella, our friend and author of the Shopaholic Series, is a Brit we trust. Her impeccable style and the shopaholic characters she creates are a testament to why she is the perfect candidate to share her insight about anything and everything regarding the royal wedding. Kate Middleton may have Diana’s ring as her “something blue” but you can channel the color by looking like royalty yourself. Here, Sophie shares her favorite hues of blue that will make you feel like royalty. Why not have the “something borrowed” and “something blue”?
Channeling the Royal Wedding: Hues of Blues
On April 29th, I'll be celebrating the Royal Wedding with a street party. This Rebecca Taylor Blue Smoke Tiered Dress will be perfect for dancing under the stars.
These intricate Erikson Beamon Bosa Nova Earrings are practically an outfit in themselves. I'll wear them with a simple T shirt, jeans and heels, for a girls' night out with glamour.
I adore the inky blue of the Vera Wang Master In Disguise dress. I'll wear it to the opera with a silver clutch, for the ultimate sophisticated evening.
Sophie Kinsella is the author of the bestselling Shopaholic series, as well as Can You Keep a Secret?, The Undomestic Goddess, Remember Me?, and Twenties Girl. Her latest novel, Mini Shopaholic, is available in paperback this month. To learn more about Sophie, check out her website and facebook page.
Friday Fashion Fun: Fragrance, Concerts, Resort & More
Fri, 2011-04-22 16:33 | by AnonymousThis week has been full of sneak peaks, Gleeks, and things to patiently wait for in the coming months. Read on for the details.
D&G- Concert Series
In addition to Kylie Minogue’s tour Mr. Stefano and Mr. Domineco of D&G have something else up their sleeves. This week, Radar informed us that Matthew Morrison- or as you may know him, Glee’s Mr. Schuester- will be outfitted in D&G for his upcoming tour. Kicking off in Dublin on June 6th, we are antsy to see what he will be performing in. What do you think he’ll be wearing? D&Gleek? [Radar]
Proenza Schouler Fragrance?
This week Proenza Schouler’s CEO Shirley Cook revealed that she’s been researching the fragrance world in hopes of a Proenza perfume coming to a store near you. What do you think it will smell like? We're hoping the bottle design is out of this world. [Into the Gloss]
Alberta Ferretti Fall Campaign
We got a glimpse of Alberta Ferretti’s fall campaign shoot, featuring Arizona Muse. The setting was a humble home scene, but as soon as the Ferretti clothes took center stage it morphed into a pattern mixing, color blocking bonanza. What do you think of the shots? [Fashionologie]
Images from our friends at Fashionologie
All About Prabal Gurung
The search for John Galliano’s predecessor at Dior has been on for some time now, but RTR fave Prabal Gurung is rumored to be a candidate. How would you feel about Prabal designing for Dior? [Fashionista] In other Prabal news, he will be debuting his first resort collection- can’t wait! [WWD]
J&J on Earth Day
Fri, 2011-04-22 11:20 | by Anonymous
Earth Day is today and RTR’s been revving up for it all week. We’ve got fresh flowers in our office, Brita filters in lieu of bottled water, windows open and A/C off and a new recycling initiative. How’s that for a first step?
Rent the Runway has always been eco-conscious and there is no reason that you can’t get your fashion fix while being green. The resources, textiles, energy and time put into making one dress is a complete waste if it sits in your closet after one wear. With RTR, you can borrow instead of wasting and join in on the “fashion recycling” we all love.
As you know, dry cleaning is part of the RTR process and it was important for us to choose a dry cleaner who shared our vision. All of our dresses are dry cleaned at Slate, an eco-friendly, organic facility and as we grow, we plan to grow green.
Take a look at what our stylists will be wearing to celebrate Earth Day and how they’re being environmentally conscious day to day, here. How do you take care of Mother Earth?
Growing green,
Jenn & Jenny
The Name Game
Fri, 2011-04-22 10:32 | by Anonymous
Last Friday we asked all of you to help us name our dresses. After a flood of responses there were too many to choose! We selected the top five names for each dress and had you vote on your favorites. Does this sound familiar? You took part in The Name Game and today, the votes have been tallied.
Congrats to Teresa Ho, the genius behind Petal to the Metal and Piper Evans for the ultra-clever Gray Gatsby! You’ve both won our Name Game and will be getting a free rental for helping us out!
Thanks for playing everyone! Check out the newly named Sachin + Babi dresses here.
Stylists’ Picks: Celebrating Earth Day
Thu, 2011-04-21 17:22 | by AnonymousEarth Day is tomorrow and our stylists have their picks to celebrate the day. We’ve been going green in our own way (hear more about it tomorrow) and asked our stylists how they’ve been contributing to the green effect and living on the eco-friendly side. What are you doing to help the Earth?
Amy
Besides recycling I will be partying it up at Greenhouse, NYC's hottest eco-friendly night club in the Lime Brushstroke Dress by Matthew Williamson and Gold Rain Earrings by Citrine by the Stones. Who says you can’t celebrate in eco-friendly style?
Alissa
I’m from CA, where bringing your own reusable bags to the grocery store is the norm and I’ve continued to do so in the big city. Tomorrow I’m headed to a cocktail event in support of conserving water energy and will be wearing this Vera Wang dress and Abstract Crystal Chandelier earrings. I’ll definitely be arriving in eco-fashion!
Justine
I've decided to go green for Earth Day this year by bringing my own lunch to work to minimize on packaging waste from delivery services. I'll also take the train to work in style wearing the Blue Porcelain Dress by Tibi paired with the Teal Flower Petal cuff.
Ashley
Tomorrow I will be wearing Catherine Malandrino paired with AV Max's Gold Medallion Cuff. At RTR we'll be wearing green but also going green by starting an RTR recycling initiative this Earth Day!
Rachel
This Earth Day I’ll be wearing the Solar System Dress with the Beaches of Greece Earrings. I’ve also committed to refrain from printing anything on new computer paper to avoid creating more paper waste. It’s double sided all the way!
Emily
This Earth Day you'll see me in the Shoshanna Purple Watercolor Dress, Chan Luu Graduated Metal Stone Bracelet and my favorite pair of flats - I'm doing my best to minimize my carbon foot print by cutting back on Taxis and walking to and from work.
Neil
Reducing the number of times you dry clean your clothing is not only cost effective and better for the garments but reduces the number of harsh dry cleaning chemicals that are used daily. Take one dress from day to night and save the world and on your dry cleaning bill!
I suggested the Gypsy Glam Dress with a cute pair of black gladiator sandals and a denim jacket during the day to one of my besties on the West Coast. All she needs to do is lose the jean jacket and switch the gladiator sandals to a pair of pumps for the Coachella-esque rooftop party she’s attending the same day. She also added the Kara Ross Rarr Clutch for some fun animal print pattern mixing from day to night!
Thursday Obsession 4/21/2011
Thu, 2011-04-21 12:56 | by AnonymousWe recently added amazing styles from Sachin + Babi to RTR (see them here) and have been staring at their home décor pieces for hours. These are some of our favorites. Can you resist them?
Best Bet: Girls Night Out
Wed, 2011-04-20 16:37 | by AnonymousSome of us have been long overdue for a nice time with just the girls and most of us are anxiously awaiting the premier of “Something Borrowed.” You see where this is going. Our best bet for this week? Make sure you send the save the date for May 6th, for you and your friends to attend the movie's opening night!
To celebrate the movie and our obvious love for borrowing, we are giving 2 VIP tickets to the L.A. movie premiere, 2 VIP nights at the J.W. Mariott Los Angeles and RTR gear for the red carpet. Click here to enter and see the trailer.
If you are making it a night (we definitely will!) be sure to get a cocktail after the movie at one of our favorite places. Just make sure your girls know they can’t bring a plus one.
NYC
Our plans? We are heading to the Hudson Hotel after watching the film at Lincoln Center. In our RTR gear and name on the guest list, we’ll be ready to chit chat chic for the rest of the night.
MIAMI
The Setai will be a great setting for you and the girls to do a postmortem on the movie. There isn’t a time when it’s not lovely to sit outside with your best friends!
LA
The Spare Room at one of LA’s favorites, The Hollywood Roosevelt, is the place to head after the flick. With prohibition style drinks and two vintage custom made bowling lanes, everyone in your party will enjoy themselves.
3 Ways: Talk to the Hand
Wed, 2011-04-20 12:29 | by AnonymousOur closet is brimming over with all the new stuff we’ve added to the RTR collection and with so many new jewels it’s time to let others notice how you’ve been decorating yourself. It’s ever too often that you opt for your black ensembles with a dash of leather to meet up socially, but for once that’s ok. It’s been a long winter so let them to talk to the hand- these baubles will certainly break the ice. This 3 Ways is all about how you can look the part with a piece or two of shine. Check out the latest pieces here. Which is your favorite?
Neck it Out
There is nothing more spotlight worthy than a statement necklace. Make that statement one of these pieces by Gemma Redux and Tom Binns.
Tell Me a Secret
Let them tell you a secret, but warn them about the treasure on your ear. These earrings by Rachel Leigh, Nicole Romano and Dannijo will mesmerize.
Cuff Me Up
These styles from Nicole Romano and Erickson Beamon invite you to be cuffed.
RTR Style Spotlight: Demi Moore
Wed, 2011-04-20 10:12 | by AnonymousWe’ve all followed her through the years. From G.I. Jane to Bruce Willis then Ashton Kutcher, she never fails to get our attention. This week’s Style Spotlight is on Demi Moore and her clean cut style. No matter the occasion she manages to get the proportions just right… and Ashton in a matching ensemble. That’s a fashion statement we love. What’s your favorite Demi look?
Less is Moore
We’ve grown accustomed to seeing Demi in her long beach wave tresses, but for this look she pulled her hair back and let the dress do the talking. Look this picturesque for your next event in the Lilly Pulitzer Bowen Lace Dress and Kara Ross cuff.
Demure Demi
High neck lines, printed fabric, double bows and double colored sounds like a total fashion-don’t but Demi does it just right. With the right up do and minor bling she takes home best dressed. You can rock the parody in the Prabal Gurung Painted Rosette Dress and new Dannijo Ajak Earrings.
Let’s Talk Lengths
Demi leaves her knee-length-friendly dresses at home and opts for this long asymmetrical stunner. We love that she took a chance and wore the statement dress with a statement necklace. You can do the same in the Yigal Azrouel Athena the Admirer Gown and new Gemma Redux Kat Necklace.
Moore Red Please
Demi always remembers to never let the color wear her and stays in control of this look by keeping it simple. Try this subtle and bright look in the Preen Bridget dress (worn by Diane Kruger!) and Paparazzi Flash Cuff.
Dress Diaries: DJ Kiss Spinnin’ in RTR
Tue, 2011-04-19 14:39 | by AnonymousThis Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by DJ Kiss
Rent the Runway is my fashion lifesaver! I’ve Rented the Runway for everything from bridesmaid dresses at my wedding to television appearances and red carpet events to photo shoots. I love investing money in classic shoes, bags and accessories but I just can’t justify spending a ton of money on a dress I’ll be photographed in and only wear once, so for me Rent the Runway is the only way to go.
As I DJ, I’m constantly out and about spinning or attending events and I always need to look great. Hey, you never know when you’ll be photographed! Some of my favorite rentals have been the Temperley London Mini Corry dress for a Tiffany’s event, the Camila and Marc Rock Candy dress for The Blonds fashion week after party, and most recently the Halston Heritage Be Mine dress for a WeTV red carpet event in LA two weeks ago!
I’ve even taken my love for RTR internationally, wearing the Catherine Malandrino Modern Queen Elizabeth dress for my headlining DJ set at VIP Room in Paris along with the Frank Tell Silver Cut-Out Bodycon dress for the following night out in Paris.
Earlier this year, I worked with MTV on their new TV show “The Seven” as their music expert. The viewers of the show are fashion savvy music lovers and my first thought was “RTR to the rescue!” I wanted my on-camera look to memorable to the viewers but not my bank account. I wore the Tracy Reese Lacy WrappedSheath, Nicole Miller Electric Slide Dress, and a cute sequined dress by Theory for the three tapings of the show and was beyond happy with the result on camera.
After having so much success with RTR, I started thinking bigger picture. When my fiancé and I were planning our engagement photo shoot I knew I wanted my look to be classic, timeless, and romantic. I also knew that this outfit was one I would definitely only wear once. After agonizing between dresses, I chose the stunning Milly Almond Rosette dress which worked perfectly next to his tuxedo! This is one of my favorite shots of us and I realized that RTR was about more than just red carpets and nights out... I think it gave me good luck!
Shortly after the engagement shoot, Ebony Magazine asked my fiancé and I to be on their list of 2011 hottest couples. I obviously could not break the lucky strike and headed right back to the computer to choose another rental. This time, I chose an edgier gold lame dress by Robert Rodriguez.
After loving my dress from RTR for my engagement shoot, I wanted to make RTR a part of my wedding too. I didn’t want my bridesmaids to be stressed about buying and trying on dresses. I used RTR’s new bridal division, which was the perfect set-up for me. The ladies at RTR helped me pick out a dress that would be flattering on different body types. I chose the beautiful Robert Rodriguez Heavenly Hayley dress in a deep purple. My friends were so impressed with the outcome of their bridesmaid dresses, they were actually excited about their dress! A month before the wedding, the dresses were shipped to each girl in their size along with a backup size. My bridesmaids were able to try the dresses on in the comfort of their own homes and return them in the RTR pre-paid envelope… easy breezy! A few days before the wedding all of the dresses were shipped to my wedding location where we would all get dressed. The girls looked amazing in the dresses and the day went off without a hitch!
I’ve made Rent the Runway my go-to for every occasion that comes into my life. Instead of thinking about where and when I will need to shop for my next look, I literally log into my virtual dream closet at any time of the day and shop. Rent the Runway has become more than a dress for a night, they’ve become part of my favorite memories.
Style Me: Easter Sunday
Tue, 2011-04-19 12:53 | by AnonymousEaster is this Sunday and if you haven’t figured out what you are going to wear, there is still time to reserve your dress! Whether you are heading to a fancy luncheon or in charge of the annual family scavenger hunt, this is the perfect excuse to dress up. Here are our favorite ways to celebrate Easter with RTR. What is yours?
Lovely in White
If you want to skip the pastels, there is a little white dress for all of us. These dresses are Easter appropriate, unabashedly feminine and for $75 and under they’re pretty hard to pass up.
Peeps of Shine
A little peep of shine can spruce up any outfit- Easter or not. These are our favorite ways to add that little something to an outfit. What would you add? Note- these Peeps don't count!
Hues of Easter
You can always rely on a pastel colored dress to have you covered for your Easter festivities. Yellow, blue or a mix of a few pastels gets us going.
10 Things We Love 4/18/2011
Mon, 2011-04-18 16:28 | by Anonymous1 The Name Game
With so many new arrivals last week, we needed help coming up with all the names! So we challenged our facebook fans to play the Name Game and name our dresses in exchange for a free rental and feature on our blog. If you haven't already, play the name game here!
2 Runway Rep Weekend
This weekend we had our Runway Reps visit us in NYC! Christian Siriano and reps from Badgley Mischka and Fragments helped us show our campus reps a great time at RTR headquarters in exchange for all the hard work our reps put in on behalf of RTR on campuses across the country. Check out all the details here!
Of course Becky, our jewelry buyer, found wall paper that is perfect for her love of glitz. Swarovski Elements, a line of wall paper created by the masters of all that glitters, has us wanting to redecorate now. Which one do you love? .
Our favorite author, Sophie Kinsella's new book, Mini Shopaholic, is out this week in paper back and we can't wait to get our hands on it! Pre-order it here before it's sold out!
5 Cure Cocktail Bar in New Orleans
Abby enjoyed the rose and dates stuffed with goat cheese wrapped with bacon at this cocktail bar when she headed back home to New Orleans.
6 Pamela Love x Opening Ceremony
Opening Ceremony and Pamela Love have joined forces for a line that is worth owning... every single piece. Check it out here.
Neil headed to the Gramercy Park Hotel Rooftop this weekend and had cinnamon infused tequila that was made in-house mixed with blood orange juice with brunch... don't be surprised if he's spotted there again next weekend.
AJ loves this low key restaurant and lounge in the East Village. If she would've been checking in, she would be the mayor by now. Check it out here.
The design team had drinks at Raines Law Room after work on Friday and they came in recruiting the rest of the office to join them there again for next time. From the decor to the drinks, they've become huge fans.
This men's watch company knows what it takes to make watches you really can't part with. Each watch is designed by artists- Blaine Fontana, Attaboy, Brian Ewing, etc.- and is a limited edition timepiece. There's no harm in stacking, so wear as many as you like.
RTR Runway Rep Weekend
Mon, 2011-04-18 14:40 | by Anonymous
This weekend RTR hosted its first ever Runway Rep College Capstone weekend in NYC. Twenty Runway Reps flew in from around the country representing schools such as Harvard, NYU, University of Georgia, University of California, Roger Williams, Case Western, University of Colorado, Penn State, and many others. The weekend was jam packed with fun filled fashion activities for the girls.
Our Runway Reps are the face of RTR on Campus. They market RTR on their campuses and introduce other college girls to the Cinderella experience at a young age. These young women build Facebook pages, blogs, hold fashion shows and other events on campus that encourage girls to rent the runway and fall in love with designer brands.
We wanted to reward the Runway Reps for all of their hard work this year on campus and put together activities that gave them the opportunity to learn about the fashion industry and more about behind the scenes at RTR. Some highlights from the day included a designer session with Christian Siriano, a Badgley Mischka brand presentation held by Heather Cloud, a Spring fashion preview led by our very own fashion team, a tour of our warehouse and dinner in the Meatpacking district.
Part of the day involved brainstorming sessions where the Runway Reps were able to share best practices with each other and work on generating new ideas to bring back with them to their respective campuses.
We currently have 150 Runway Reps on over 50 campuses and are looking to expand this to over 150 schools in the next year. Thanks to all of the Runway Reps that were able to join us this weekend. It was truly an amazing experience! --Becky
All on the Line
Mon, 2011-04-18 13:30 | by AnonymousWe’ve been watching Sundance Channel’s All on the Line, where ELLE Magazine’s Creative Director Joe Zee meets with designers who are struggling to keep their labels from going under. He puts them through what could be considered a “fashion boot camp” in time to meet a buyer whose order can change the future of their line.
To help these designers out you can vote for which one you’d like to see on Rent the Runway! Click here to choose your favorite designer. Rent the Runway will carry the designer with the most votes and if you voted for them you could win a $2,500 gift card to RTR!
Don't miss the show on the Sundance Channel, every Tuesday at 10 PM/EST.
Friday Fashion Fun: Calypso, Rachel Roy & Galliano
Fri, 2011-04-15 15:54 | by AnonymousThis week was all about new lines and collaborations and one of fashion’s biggest controversies comes to a gloomy ending. Read on!
Calypso X Target
All time favorite boho chic label Calypso St. Barth is curating a line for Target! The collaboration is going beyond women’s ready to wear, also featuring kid’s wear, home goods, jewelry and shoes. These are a couple of our favorites that will hit the stores on May 1st. Make sure you block some time off of your calendar to visit your nearest Target. [Racked]
Rachel Roy & Amar’e Stoudemire
Amar’e Stoudemire was seen all over the tents during New York Fashion Week in February, but he’s taking his fashion even more seriously. Stoudemire and Rachel Roy have teamed up to create a line for Macy’s under the Rachel Rachel Roy label. The line will be focused on sporty separates and will be priced from $45 to $250. Their inspiration? What super models Gisele and Kate Moss wear to when they watch sports… naturally. [NBC]
Thanks to Refinery29 for the pic!
You’re Fired
John Galliano was officially fired from John Galliano today. The outcome of a series of anti-Semitic remarks resulted in his firing from Dior, but he was still head designer at his namesake label. After one month at an Arizona rehab, the 91% Dior owned John Galliano label fired John Galliano himself. Can you imagine how it would feel to not own your own name? [WWD]
Stylists’ Picks: Spring Wedding
Fri, 2011-04-15 12:59 | by AnonymousSpring is the season for weddings and for many of our members it’s the time they have RTR in rotation. If you’re attending a wedding or just got your save the date, no worries. You can reserve a dress up to 6 months in advance or place an order for same day delivery. Our stylists have a list of weddings they will be attending and here’s how they will make the big event. What will you be wearing to your next ceremony of I-do’s?
Emily
The ceremony might have me in tears, but I will let it all out at the reception. You’ll find me going wild on the dance floor in this new Matthew Williamson Naranja Leopard Dress and the Miguel Ases Totally Feminine Earrings.
Amy
I will steal the spotlight when I make my entrance in the Moschino Cheap and Chic Lemon Print Ruffle Dress decked with a fabulous pair of Power of Pearl Earrings by Miriam Haskell. The bride will still be the center of attention, but I’ll be a close second!
Rachel
I love the Accordian to Me Dress and the Gwen Blossom Earrings for the next spring wedding I’m attending.
Ashley
With the big day just around the corner, I have put together the perfect look for my best friend's Spring wedding. Trina Turk's Gone Wild Dress paired with Coralia Leets' gorgeous Dazzling Droplet Earrings – it’s just the right amount of easy, breezy!
Justine
I can't wait to attend my best friend's wedding this spring. I’m overjoyed for her but am also really excited to wear this draped back printed Halston number and the new Taupe Trance Earrings!
Neil
I’ll leave it up to the girls to rock RTR to any wedding, but my favorite suggestion for this spring is this great Christian Cota number. I would add a little bling by carrying the Love Torn Clutch by Carlos Falchi to make a lasting impression.
Style Awards: Herve Heat
Fri, 2011-04-15 09:21 | by AnonymousWhat a fashion face off! This week’s Style Awards were neck and neck, but Caroline in the Herve Leger Naughty but Nice Dress took the win. Congrats! She rocked this RTR favorite to her med school prom and attendees had a fever.

Thursday Obsession 4/14/2011
Thu, 2011-04-14 09:42 | by AnonymousWe are number one fans of Assouline’s books. They make for great coffee table additions, are beautiful to look at and better yet they’re fun reads! In celebration of the Karl Lagerfeld’s Diet Coke designs and the possible discovery of the secret recipe from NPR's This American Life, we can’t wait to get our hands on Assouline’s Coca-Cola book. It’s 208 pages of the brands best advertisements, images and moments. The book will be out this May, but you can pre-order it here.
Best Bets: Spa Week Favorites
Wed, 2011-04-13 13:39 | by AnonymousYou’ve been keeping up with your resolutions, losing those few extra winter weight pounds and trying hard to live stress-free. It’s time for a treat. Spa Week is here in NYC and we’ve got a line-up of our best bets to schedule your spa week indulgence. This list covers the basics: a perfect wax, a massage and a facial. The only catch is that you have to schedule soon- Spa Week ends on Sunday!
Wax You Won’t Regret
Completely Bare on 5th Ave is our go-to place for a wax you won’t regret. For Spa Week, they are offering their signature “no hair left behind” bikini wax as well as their coveted laser hair removal treatments if you want to up the ante on a hairy situation.
Must –Have Massage
Euphoria Spa is offering a deal worth booking ASAP. Their M'N'M (Much-Needed Massage), typically $165 is only $50 for Spa Week. Tucked away right off of Hudson street, this is a little place of serenity worth visiting.
Fancy Facial
We are in love with the White Tea Med Spa in Chelsea. It’s relaxing atmosphere makes it the place to be for their Antioxidant Acai Facial, one of the treatments at the top of our list.
Click here to see all participating spas and the services they offer for Spa Week NYC!
RTR Style Spotlight: Olivia Wilde
Wed, 2011-04-13 11:48 | by AnonymousOne of our favorite magazine covers this month is Olivia Wilde’s April Cosmo cover. We’ve always loved Olivia’s choice of flawless neutrals and simple silhouettes, and shine our RTR Style Spotlight on her this week. It was a surprise to see the actress all smiles in a bright color on the cover and hope we see more of our favorite House character in hues of spring. These are some of our favorite Olivia looks. Which one is yours?
Beads & Bangs
Olivia does this beaded dress right by matching it with a darker clutch and letting her bangs out. You can do the same in the Art Deco Print Beaded Shift and Carlos Falchi Bronze Bombshell Clutch.
Wilde, Wilde, West
Olivia’s choice of a plain black dress with a wild back was ideal. It’s slimming in the front, hides your arms and shows off some of your most flattering skin. Wear the Yigal Azrouel Sultry Sleek Dress and the Jet Drop Earrings to channel Olivia’s wild side.
Look 3: Pretty in Pleats
She makes this belted, pleated dress looks so easy. To emulate Olivia’s take on effortless, try the Theory Pleated Tank Dress and Miriam Haskell Sea Treasure Stud Earrings.
Look 4: Sheaths-a-Blazin’
Olivia added an edgy blazer to a more conservative dress to take the look up a notch. You can do the same with the Escada Writing on the Wall Dress and Dannijo Finley Earrings, an RTR favorite.

Style Me: Black Tie Benefit, Hold the Black
Tue, 2011-04-12 14:45 | by AnonymousBenefit season is here and although black is the go-to color for anything and everything that makes you feel like you have somewhere to go, this spring it’s all about color. Here are a few ways to attend your next big benefit, without the black.
Commit to Color
The dress is the main event. Make a statement in the biggest way possible with one if these colored gowns.
Color That Shines
This doesn’t mean you are wearing a black dress. A metallic dress like the strapless one above or any of these with colored jewels is another benefit-worthy option.
Carry Your Color
Add even more color to your ensemble with what you carry. A little clutch can go a long way and these can complete your look.
Dress Diaries: Mazel Tov!
Tue, 2011-04-12 12:04 | by Anonymous
This Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Allie Gradinger

As an intern at RTR, I see every aspect of Rent the Runway. From the witty banter that flies across the office, sneak peaks at what the buyers are thinking for next season, to Jenn and Jenny’s inspirational speeches. The all-encompassing experience has also given me the privilege of spending countless hours admiring the fabulous frocks in the upstairs warehouse all under careful watch of the fabulous operations team.
When I received the news I would have to pack my bags and attend my cousin David’s Bar Mitzvah in Jackson, Mississippi I knew exactly what I was going to wear. Forget my spring wish list- I had my eye on some RTR frocks!
For Friday night Shabbat, I wore the Milly Doll Lace Dress and paired it with ballet flats. This dress was the perfect length and segued from temple to dinner party seamlessly.

The Bar Mitzvah ceremony took place on Saturday morning, where I sported the Tibi High Tea Dress and black pumps. The dress was comfortable and easy to move around in, which is essential for this specific religious service as the congregation is frequently asked to rise and be seated. With the luncheon following, I again was able to transition from morning to afternoon without a hitch.

Saturday Night was the big reception, where my cousin David was able to celebrate the completion of his Bar Mitzvah with 250 of his closest friends and relatives. Knowing full well I would be rocking out to oldies on the dance floor with my aunts (Electric Slide anyone?), joining in on the Hora (an Israeli circle dance), and experiencing southern cuisine (they really do fry everything!), I knew the only dress that would be able to keep up with me would be the Halston Be Mine Mini Dress paired with nude heels. The color is fun, the fit was great, and the tiered ruffles had me swishing across the dance floor.
Rent the Runway was the perfect go-to for my jam-packed weekend. For the first time I was simultaneously able to dress appropriately and fashionably to these types of events- a concept I thought was unachievable. My first trip to the South was unforgettable and just when I thought RTR couldn’t be any greater I was reminded on my flight home not once but twice (thanks to Glamour and Teen Vogue) just how special this company is! Mazel Tov!

Friday Fashion Fun: Shoes, Japan Relief & DVF for Gap Kids?
Fri, 2011-04-08 12:17 | by AnonymousThis week the fashion world had plenty going on - more relief for Japan, designers adding footwear and maybe a DVF line for Gap Kids… excited much? Read on for your update of the going’s on of the fashion circuit this week.
Japan Relief
The CFDA has rallied some of fashion’s key players to raise more funds for Japan. Up for the taking is a week-long stay at Diane Von Furstenberg’s Harbour Island Beach House, lunch and a style consultation with Rachel Zoe, meet and greet with Anna Wintour at a Vogue magazine photo shoot and plenty more. The auctions are available on CharityBuzz.com and let’s face it- this might be one of the only opportunities that you get to chat with Anna Wintour on the set of Vogue! [Mashable]
All images from CharityBuzz.com
Perfect Pairs
Remember Alice + Olivia’s spring collection video? Well, they’re at it again. This time they’ve released a video showcasing their new shoe collection. Stacked purple sandals, polka dot, cheetah print and patent red wedges and a food fight? Watch the video here. [Fashionista]
Another major player has entered the footwear market this week. Mark & James by Badgley Mischka launched their perfect pairs for spring on Nordstrom.com. Their collection is all about the nudes you need for the hot weather to come.
DVF x Gap Kids?
We've gotten word that DVF is collaborating with Gap Kids to release a line for your little one. Gap had a tremendously successful run with Stella McCartney’s children’s line, so it doesn’t surprise us that they are looking for someone to succeed McCartney. Considering DVF launched maternity wear last week, this seems like the logical next step. Would you buy DVF x Gap Kids? We would be all over it! [Racked]

Stylists’ Picks: Bump Friendly Dresses
Thu, 2011-04-07 14:17 | by AnonymousOur stylists have been getting many requests from moms-to-be and how to outfit themselves for the occasions in their life. We’ve asked each of our stylists to choose their favorite bump friendly recommendations for the top occasions flooding the phone lines. What is your favorite bump friendly look? Share with us in the comments!
Justine: Spring Wedding
I recommend this pink coral chiffon dress by Badgley Mischka straight off the Spring 2011 runway, and Emerald Eye Chandelier for the contemporary mom-to-be attending a spring wedding!
Emily: Your Baby Shower
Is it a boy or a girl? This Blue Moonlight Dress and Lee Angel Silver Etienne Necklace are light and easy for the celebrated Mom-to-be, while keeping others guessing.
Neil: Cocktail Party
For a cocktail party, look feminine and flirty in the Shoulder Bow Tiered Dress by Moschino Cheap and Chic. Pair it with the Kenneth Jay Lane Noir Flower Ring to add a little sparkle and shine, but remember, no bubbly for you!
Rachel: Date Night
The little one on the way should not stop you from bringing in some romance with the hubby. Slip into the Be Mine Dress and Berry Bangle Set for a perfect date night.
Amy: Attending a Birthday
You and your plus one can arrive in style the Tibi Strapless Flower Burst Dress and a pair of Dazzling Droplet Earrings. Moms to be can still make a fashionable entrance!
Ashley: Your Birthday
The Passion Twist Dress and Silver Sunken Treasure Necklace are the perfect combo for an expecting mother celebrating her own birthday. The color photographs beautifully and it is comfortable for a night all about you.
Alissa: Black Tie Event
Don't be afraid to show off that bump when attending a black tie affair! This D&G piece is versatile, super comfortable and can be worn with heels, flats and any type of jewelry (but I LOVE this new Ciner bracelet)!

Best Bet: Budget Avant Gardism
Wed, 2011-04-06 18:06 | by Anonymous“Avant garde” is typically used to describe a person whose look is fashionable but in the eclectic and artsy kind of way. It is about a person who isn’t afraid to play with fashion and have fun, purposely being different.
While many of the avant garde enthusiasts who come to mind are donning this season's bright pink Prada fur scarves or Alexander Mc Queen armadillo shoes- think Lady Gaga and Anna Dello Russo- you too can embrace the avant garde without spending thousands. These are our best bets for a little something we like to call budget avant gardism. Add a feather in your hair or a runway -esque hat and red lip and you’re ready to go.
RTR Style Spotlight: Thandie Newton
Wed, 2011-04-06 12:44 | by AnonymousThandie Newton has always been on our fashion radar. Even when she’s not on the red carpet, her day to day fashion decisions are on point. The mystery about Thandie’s style is that she is both classic and trendy, wearing of the moment staples in the chicest and classiest of ways. These are some of our favorite classic + trendy Thandie looks and how you can wear them to your next event.
Look 1: The Fascinator
This multi-colored ombre dress is definitely a head turnover and Thandie plays it down with zero fuss hair and makeup. We recommend the Nicole Miller Aqua Ombre Dress and Pave Double Drop Earrings for a little shine.
Look 2: Currently Classic
A flattering white dress is always in style, but the asymmetric top puts this choice on the trend map. Follow Thandie’s lead and try the Preen White Storm Dress and Susan Hanover cuff to edge up your look.
Look 3: Vintage Modernism
Rosettes remind us of vintage prints in pastel colors, but Thandie’s take on vintage with this Prabal Gurung dress is completely modern. Pair the dress with a Kenneth Jay Lane Pave Pearl Ring to keep it’s vintage feel and arrive as the chicest in attendance.
Look 4: Statement Shoulders
We all have our go-to LBD, but hers puts some of ours to shame. This one shoulder dress is unfitted in all the right places and emphasizes a shoulder worth showing off. We love to replicate this look in the Haute Hippie Winged Embellished Shoulder Dress and Ciner Black Crystal Drop Earrings.
Thanks to our friends at Zimbio for all the Newton pics!
Balenciaga in Spain Benefit
Wed, 2011-04-06 11:38 | by AnonymousTypical days at Rent the Runway bring many opportunities for Cinderella experiences with fashion. One of my favorite rituals of the week is 5pm on a Friday when many an RTR lady can be found upstairs in our warehouse modeling dresses for her parties that weekend and getting the often too-honest feedback of the RTR family! So, I'm just a bit spoiled when it comes to dressing up! That said, last week I had my very own Cinderella moment with fashion. I was invited to the opening night of the de Young Museum’s “Balenciaga and Spain” exhibition in San Francisco and I knew I needed to wow with my fashion choice as Anna Wintour was hosting.
Before the event, Derek Guillemette, our head buyer, called some of my favorite designers and asked for special couture gowns - Bibhu Mohapatra, Prabal Gurung, Narciso Rodriguez and of course, Alberta Ferretti. About a dozen gowns floated into our office a moment's notice and I had a veritable fashion show in one of our conference rooms to determine which dress was "the one." I decided on a Grecian-inspired, slate-grey Alberta Ferretti gown - a go-to brand for special events.
Fast-forward to the exhibition - there were 120 breathtaking pieces, and the crowd was packed with fashion world elite and some of my favorite techie friends from Yelp, Google and Facebook. Attendees were dressed in gowns from Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte, and of course Balenciaga. At my table was Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy, the founders of Juicy Couture who were dripping in Lanvin’s runway collection. They were tons of fun and we talked about the new line they have coming out in July, which we at Rent the Runway are eagerly awaiting. I also had a great time chatting with Cameron, owner of Decades, the amazing vintage boutique.
Among the crowd was also Anna Wintour, Hamish Bowles, Gywneth Paltrow, and the Rodarte sisters – it was truly a special evening and I felt like fashion royalty. I hope that every time a Rent the Runway customer receives her dress in the mail she feels the same way.
Below are some of my favorite shots from the event - if you’re in the San Francisco area, make sure you make time to stop by and see the amazing exhibition.
Fashionably Yours,
Jenn
Dress Diaries: Birthday Bash
Tue, 2011-04-05 18:28 | by AnonymousThis Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Donna Kim
Birthdays are a special celebration. It’s the only day that’s all about you and you aren’t walking down the aisle. It’s also a time that can be celebrated with all of your friends, no matter what walk in life. For my 23rd birthday, I wanted to change my scene.
A San Fran native, everything after 18 had out done the year before it. From shutting down a trendy club in the Lower East Side to fancy lounges in the Meatpacking District, I felt like I lived it up in New York City. This year I really wanted to focus on the friends that had seen me grow and have an intimate celebration just with them. It was also the time I thought I would give Rent the Runway a shot.
I called a stylist while placing my order to make sure the Catherine Malandrino Smoking Shoulder Dress was going to fit perfectly. Working in the fashion industry, I wanted to wear something great that I already didn’t own and that would be new to my friends. You only ever really wear birthday outfits once, so it was a no brainer. I got my dress and was THRILLED. It fit perfectly, with the size recommendation that Ashley had given me. I also rented the Chamak Monte Carlo Bangle Set and Kenneth Jay lane Emerald City Ring to add some color to the LBD. I was so happy that one of my friends leaned over and said “you haven’t stopped smiling the entire night- looks like Rent the Runway is a keeper!” She hit the nail on the head and I’ve been renting ever since.
10 Things We Love 4/4/2011

1 Stripes for Spring!
Stripes are a favorite go-to all year round and these styles from Catherine Malandrino and Nanette Lepore are tres chic for spring.
2 Imperial No. Nine
For ambiance that kills we recommend Imperial No. Nine at the Mondrian Hotel in SoHo. RTR staff spotted Rent the Runway on a few gals there this weekend.
3 Laduree Macaroons
This is a French delicacy that we all enjoy. Even the colors get us in the mood for spring!
4 19CharlesStreet
It's time to impress at your next dinner party! Chris found 19CharlesStreet, the NYC cooking startup which creates a new menu each week and delivers all the ingredients plus a recipe card to your apartment for home cooking. The fashion team visited Trina Turk last week (read about it here) and were surprised to be greeted with an RTR-esque reception desk. Definitely on our office wish list!

Sophie Kinsella's Spring Picks
Mon, 2011-04-04 14:17 | by Anonymous
This content was brought to Rent the Runway by Sophie Kinsella, author of the Shopaholic Series.
Our friend and author of the Shopaholic Series, Sophie Kinsella, handpicks her favorite dresses for one of spring's hottest trends- bold brights. We love Sophie's playful style and had to ask how she will be renting the runway this spring. What's your favorite?
Bold Brights
I'll take the Nanette Lepore Lotus Blossom Dress on holiday to wear with simple flip flops and shades. It's so cute and easy-to-wear I can see myself choosing it again and again.
I'm attending Wimbledon this year and the zingy Lemon Sorbet Dress by Lilly Pulitzer will make the perfect outfit. However hot the action is on Centre Court, I'll feel chilled and fresh!
I love a dress that makes a statement and the Halston Heritage Raspberry Poncho Dress really has the wow factor. I'll wear it to my girlfriend's birthday party with a pair of killer heels and some attitude.
