How many times have you poured a bottle of wine into a carafe and forgot what was in there? Remember what you put in that carafe for your next party and the names of the people you’ve invited after a few drinks. We’re completely obsessed with the chalk glassware from Pier 1!
Stylists’ Picks: Celeb Style Crush
Thu, 2011-03-31 15:34 | by AnonymousYesterday we asked you meet our stylists and reach out to them for all of your styling needs. Today we decided to let them show you what RTR duds they'd like to see their celeb style crush in, one of the things that you got to know about them in their personal style file. If you haven’t already, check it out here. Who is your celeb style crush? Tell us in the comments!
Rachel
Nicole Richie stands out from all other celebrities with her unique approach to bohemian dress. I would love to see this mother of two decked out in our Shoulder Peep Dress complimented with the Deco Bling Pendant.
Justine
Erin Wasson defines effortless cool with her uncontrived styling of antique dresses, chunky boots and stacks of Native American jewelry-- I'd like to imitate her look in this Doo.ri Desert Goddess Gown and the Hippie Fringe earrings.
Amy
January Jones drives all the men mad with her her subtly sexy style. I would love to see her wearing the Sea You There Dress this summer along with the classic Miriam Haskell Deck Your Neck Pearl Necklace.
Ashley
Inspired by Kate Moss, Serena Van Der Woodsen's boho rocker style is created by mixing fashion forward and vintage pieces. Of course, Serena would look fab in the Yigal Optic Color Block Dress and Midnight Star Necklace.
Neil
Vogue Japan Editor, Anna Dello Russo, is known for taking an over the top look and running with it. In honor of Prabal Gurung's birthday, I would dress ADR in the Painted Rosette Dress and the Juliette Bow Necklace by Lee Angel.
Alissa
Olivia Palermo will capture her trendy yet classic style with this Proenza piece. To add a little bit more edge, pair it with the Subversive Silver Sunken Treasure Necklace.
Emily
To channel my inner Kate Bosworth, I’d wear the Pintucked Away Dress and Braided Chain Bracelet. Don’t be fooled if you see me though- it’s just me, Emily Ross!
Meeting Trina Turk
Thu, 2011-03-31 13:16 | by Anonymous
Anushka, Trina Turk, Derek, Lauren
Today we visited the Trina Turk showroom to make all the final selections for our fall order. We looked through the collection over and over again and debated what we thought were the best picks for the members of RTR- their suggestions and requests as well as trend forecasting were the number one priority. After we thought we had our winning list, in walks Trina Turk herself to give her input! What better way to buy the best fall dresses than with the designer who creates them?
In her beautiful showroom we chatted with Trina about her new dress line and how she’s expanding her dress selection to accommodate every woman. Stay tuned for what she has in store in the next couple of months! She helped us finalize our order and we are beyond excited for what’s to come to RTR. Trina was one of the nicest people we’ve met and look forward to having her hand select our order next time! – RTR Fashion Team
Best Bets: Spring Shoes that Touch the Sole
Wed, 2011-03-30 15:18 | by AnonymousWe can’t wait for pretty pedicures and open toed shoes. There are three trends that have touched our soles and we are itching to wear them this spring.
The nude shoe is a classic, but nude and camel colored wedges, booties and stacked heels in suede and leather are the way to go for the staple this spring. You also can’t forget about tribal chic shoes with earthy color combos and patterns that are reminiscent of the 70’s- those are at the top of our list. Finally, shoes that define “power color” are a must to execute those color blocking and hippie loving looks.
What shoes are on your spring wish list? Share with us in the comments!

I’ve found that all of them have grown to know my style but will dress me with their own spin on it. If I want a downtown chic look, I go to Rachel. If I’m feeling a little quirky and fashion forward, I ask Neil for help. Cool but understated looks are all Justine, for vintage inspired yet modern ensembles my go to is Amy and when I want to be low key Emily has got me covered. RTR Style Spotlight: Jennifer Lopez
Wed, 2011-03-30 12:53 | by AnonymousEveryone in the office has American Idol fever, and there is one trendsetter who we’ve had our eye on. This week, we shine our RTR Style Spotlight on Jennifer Lopez. Her daring fashion choices on the red carpet (remember that Versace gown?) and hyper accessorized everyday looks have us intrigued. These are our favorite looks from the mother, actress, director, writer, dancer, designer, and overall superwoman, J.Lo. Which is your favorite?
Lopez Look 1: Bring on the Shine
This look is what you should wear if you don’t want to be in the spotlight, but be the spotlight. Confidence is key to pulling off the Badgley Mischka Screen Siren Gown and Lauren Merkin Eve Clutch.
Lopez Look 2: Bigger is Better
Lopez took this LBD and added big, well… everything. From the big, tall, black boots to the oversized clutch and bracelets it is clear that bigger is better. Try on this look for size with the Peter Soronen Hourglass LBD and Supernova Cuff.
Lopez Look 3: White Awakening
You’ve never seen a white dress this seductive. Lopez kept everything else about this look elegant demure. Wear this curve hugging look to your next event in the Tracy Reese Swept Summer Dress and Ted Rossi Python Drop Earrings.
Lopez Look 4: A Short Story
There’s nothing wrong with showing some leg and Lopez does it just right in this little number. We love the detail on the side of the dress, just like the Ali Ro Ruched Beaded Dress and the textured clutch that you can rent by Kara Ross.
Style Me: Facebook Fan Style
Tue, 2011-03-29 15:06 | by AnonymousWe bounced ideas off of each other and thought we would turn it over to our facebook fans to answer one question: can you describe your style in three words and three words only? We took some of their words to create looks for all of our members in a Style Me dedicated to our facebook fans’ style. How do you describe your style in three words?
Classic City Chic
Madeleine was quick to respond with “classic city chic” a phrase she just might have to patent. There were so many options for this look, but of course we had to go with the Angel Sanchez appropriately named City Chic dress and Erickson Beamon Great Expectations Bracelet.
Nerd in Heels
This quirky description came by way of Megan and we have to do it justice. Pair a red lip, messy bun and skyrocketing heels with the Proenza Schouler Back to School Dress and Liz Rough Necklace for this look. Nerdy chic glasses are optional.
Street Style Glam
We had to feature Helmut Lang as a part of Lisa’s description. The Volcanic Eruption dress and Dannijo Isadore Necklace is a street style match we can get behind. The dress touches on the color blocking trends for spring and the necklace is a statement piece must. All you have to do is opt for masculine shoes, add a layer with a leather jacket or wear something with (faux) fur.
Special shout out to some of our other favorite phrases- O.M.G., Rent the Runway and Perfect For Me - thanks to everyone who shared their style with us! Friend us on facebook here!
Dress Diaries: Asia Society Benefit Dinner
Tue, 2011-03-29 11:04 | by Anonymous
Brought to Rent the Runway by Style.com fashion and party writer, Kristin Studeman
“You must have a lot of nice party dresses for your job,” one man said to me at last night’s annual NYC Asia Society benefit dinner. “No, I just Rent the Runway,” I responded.
Like many fashion fiends, I always want to rock the latest looks from my favorite designers, but it’s no secret that the industry doesn’t pay nearly enough to afford me that luxury. That’s where Rent the Runway comes in.
Yesterday morning, I woke up and realized I didn’t have a dress for the Asia Society dinner I was attending for Style.com. As a fashion and party writer for Style.com, as well as New York Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily and InStyle.com, I go to red carpet events, black tie galas and runway shows on a weekly—make that daily—basis. When you find yourself in a room with the likes of fashion’s greatest tastemakers and designers, such as Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Alexander Wang, I think it goes without saying that you are going to want to be dressed well.
When I was selecting my ensemble for last night’s fête, I wanted to incorporate the Asian theme. After sorting through dozens of fabulous Rent the Runway options, I found myself deliberating between the Tibi Vermillion One Shoulder Dress and the LaROK Vintage Lace Dress. Ultimately, I chose the LaROK dress because the intricate gold detailing on the dress made it especially unique. I completed the look with bold, Kenneth Jay Lane Jade Drop Earrings. (Apparently, everyone’s loving those earrings right now because Kelly Ripa and Nicky Hilton were recently spotted wearing them too)!
Just a few hours after I ordered my look, it was at my door. I can’t say how nice that was—for a girl on the go, it’s the ultimate luxury to have someone else take care of getting your party ensemble ready.
The whole look was a total success and I think the compliments from other guests, including my talented friend, designer Bibhu Mohapatra, and Naeem Khan, speak for themselves. Bibhu said he noticed the beautiful fabric of my dress from across the room! Thanks to RTR for saving the day.

Get the Look Au Naturale Prom
Fri, 2011-03-25 09:41 | by AnonymousWe’ve been behind the scenes of our prom look book shoot, met the photographers and have gushed over the gowns for weeks, but there’s one thing you’ve all been asking about… how can you get the make-up looks from the shoot? Lancôme gave us their secrets on how to get the RTR prom look with most of the focus on your eyes and lips, keeping it au naturale.
Eyes that Mesmerize
To accentuate the eyes of each girl, their eyelids were lightly colored with the Color Design Amethyst Glam color palette. Here's how to do it: smooth the eyeshadow over the entire lid and a little above the crease with the lightest color at the top. Cover only the lid with the first color in the second row and use the color right in the middle for the crease. Don’t over apply color in the crease of the eye, just blend with the last color in that row and use the bottom shade as a liner, closest to the eyelashes. Then make strong eye contact with whoever you dance with to mesmerize them!
Wide Eyed Gal
No eye is complete without mascara. To get the lashes that go the extra mile, use the Définicils High Definition Mascara in Black. Make sure you also get the inner lashes by tilting the brush slightly towards the center of your face.
Lip Matters
Let your lip lead the look and add that little extra punch of color. Start at the middle of the lip and blend outwards to both corners for the most natural look. Our favorites are the Berry Bold Juicy Tube and Color Design Lipstick in Red Haute. For extra shine, dab a little of the lip gloss over the lipstick.

If she got a dollar for every compliment she received that night she would have raised millions for the charity! She stole the show in the Badgley Mischka Fifth Avenue Showstopper Dress, Lauren Merkin Georgie Clutch and Cara Accessories Icy Steps Bracelet. What a statement look!

3 Ways: Fashion Emergency Fixes
Thu, 2011-03-24 18:00 | by AnonymousFor all the moments that you’ve thought “I wish I had…” in a fashion emergency, Braza has got you covered. Here are the top three solutions for any fashion savvy gal. If you don’t already have these, no worries! We now carry them on RTR and you can add them to your rental or order them on their own. After all, it’s better late than never!
Emergency 1: Backless Dress + Full Frontal Coverage
There aren’t many of us who can attend a fête without a bra. For some it’s a blessing, for others it’s a curse, and for you there’s a solution. The Braza Strapless Adhesive Bra is super easy to apply and when you are finished, simply throw it out- each pack comes with five sets. Now you can wear any dress!
Emergency 2: “Cup” Half Full
Sometimes you just can’t fill it up. There’s no need to go looking for a pricey strapless push up that you’ll only use a handful of times. Braza’s Add a Bra Size Inserts will get you there. Now you can look at this as a “cup” half full situation.
Emergency 3: Just a Tad Too Low
When the dress is just a tad too low and moving your bra strap out of sight is not an option, try Braza’s The Low Down. This bra converter will pull the strap low enough and leave you in the clear.

Stylists’ Picks: Bright Now- Color Blocking Looks to Love
Thu, 2011-03-24 12:15 | by AnonymousOne of the biggest trends spotted on the runway was color blocking. We’ve asked our stylists to put together their must have color blocking look for the season. Make sure you are wearing sunglasses this spring because you are bound to see bright colors all over the street. Which is your favorite?
Amy
I'll be brighter than the NYC sun in my Vena Cava Scarlet Snake Dress, bold Vivienne Mixed Media Platform Sandals by Jimmy Choo and Kenneth Jay Lane Picasso Crystal Cuff.
Alissa
Don't be scared of this Twelfth Street by Cynthia Vincent rich yellow dress that exudes a green undertone. The warm shade will look amazing on any skin color this spring. Pair it with a signature pair of YSL Tribute Sandals and a stack of AV Max gold bangles and you're good to go.
Emily
This spring will be all about making statement with color - I'll be bold and bright in Nanette Lepore's All Tuckered Out Dress, Prada's new Multi Striped Elastic Strap Sandals and AV Max Metallic Silver Stack.
Justine
Spring's hottest trend is perfect for day in this Optic Color Block dress paired with the Subversive Pink Sunken Treasure Necklace and Alexander Wang Dakota Lace Up booties- that I'm dying to own!
Rachel
I can’t wait to wear the new Pomegranate Martini Dress and ' color-block- it up' with these amazing Miu Miu platforms! I love how concentrated the colors are and to smooth it out I'll have the Double Dagger Bracelet on my wrist.
Ashley
I'm ready to add a burst of color this spring by combining the Missoni Crazed Colorblock Dress with my Marc Jacobs sunnies and Chamak's Perfect Plum Bangle Set!
Best Bets: Housewarming Presents
Wed, 2011-03-23 17:01 | by AnonymousWe’ve been invited to a couple housewarming parties and were in a rut to find what we could give to our friends to toast to their new place. Keep this list close by for the next time you’re invited.
Book on a Mission
Whose Hair? by Christina Christoforou, is a present you can put right to use. Packed with over 200 illustrations of the hairstyles of entertainers, politicians, pop culture icons and more, bring a nice bottle of wine and get the guessing game started as soon as they open their present. Big plus- it’s only $12!
Inhale, Exhale
This candle curated by artist and designer Isabel Toledo, is a must for any place. The Lemon Rose smell is subtle but present and the packaging is tres chic. You’ll know what to get them for their birthday or next holiday once this puppy runs out… they’ll surely want another.
Drinks with a Plan
This is one of the best tea infusers out there and the lime green makes it cheery enough for a present. Make a date to put the tea infuser to work and have tea cocktails for housewarming number two from Tea Forte. Click here for recipes!
RTR Style Spotlight: Rachel Bilson
Wed, 2011-03-23 14:29 | by AnonymousO.C. favorite and trend setter Rachel Bilson is under the RTR Style Spotlight this week. The petite “it” girl was shot in three short films this week directed by Karl Lagerfeld for Magnum Ice Cream. She plays all of our favorite characters- model, prima ballerina and muse- embodying all of them in real life too! We love her simple yet trendy style, always favoring a flattering cut and solid colors to a crazy print and loosey-goosey top. These picks are everything we love about Bilson- simple, glam, trendy and always a lady. What is your favorite look?
Simple & Chic
This look is simple, but there’s a twist- she wore silver sandals with a dress that has brass buttons. Mix up your metals in a simple chic way with the Perfect Picturesque Dress and Elizabeth Cole Full Bloom Earrings.
Glitzy Glam
This one shoulder dress is ideal for a movie premier. Rachel never over does accessories, but the right contrast is just enough to make the piece pop. Try the Rachel Roy Mercury One Shoulder Dress and Ciner Pave Arrow Bangle for the next time you want to be premier ready.
Trend Done Right
Looking for a shapeless dress that won’t drown your figure? That’s a tough one. To play it off well, wear a one shoulder that falls in the right place. We love the Yigal Azrouel Burgundy One Shoulder Draped Dress and Lauren Merkin Louise Clutch to finish the look.
Perfect Lady
Don’t forget to add a belt to the Perfect Parisian Sheath to get this Rachel look. Add some excitement with the Erickson Beamon Crystal Chandelier Earrings and you are ready for almost anything, from day to night.
Remembering Elizabeth Taylor
Wed, 2011-03-23 12:49 | by AnonymousOne of the most globally known actresses, Elizabeth Taylor passed away today at the age of 79 in Los Angeles due to heart failure. The actress had over 50 films under her belt and the number one selling celebrity fragrance in the world, White Diamonds. We will remember the icon not only for her unconditional support as an activist to HIV/AIDS, but always for her love of fashion and passion for acting. Our best wishes go out to her family and we will continue to relive our memories of her for years to come.
The RTR Buying Process
Tue, 2011-03-22 16:40 | by AnonymousThe best time of the year to be in New York is fashion week! Fashion week occurs twice a year in NYC as designers put on shows to preview their collections to retailers. RTR’s fashion team attends the big shows at the tents to find the best styles to bring to the site. In this post, our stylist Alissa gives us the run down on how RTR buys for all of you.
1. Fashion Shows
Designers present their latest collections, showing us their vision for the upcoming season. RTR attends to see what’s to come for the following season.
2. Market Week
After the show our buyers attend “market week” to view the collection in person. The collection is usually a combination of sample pieces that walked on the runway, commercial looks (a more “wearable” version of the runway looks) and pieces that weren’t shown on the catwalk. Here, they usually bump into some of our friends from Saks, Bergdorf and Barney’s- we buy just like they would. Pictures and notes are taken of dresses the team loves and taken back to the office to be decided on later.
3. Order
This is the hardest part! The team looks through all of the photos that were taken throughout market week and takes into consideration our member requests, Style Council votes and trend analysis before placing the big order. Each order is placed to the specific designer and the rest is history.
4. Photo Shoot
Once they’ve decided on the styles they love, they call in all the dresses. Each designer sends RTR a dress from the order we placed for a photo shoot at the RTR headquarters. We photograph the dresses a few months before the dresses actually arrive in our warehouse.
5. Site
After we choose our favorite pics for the site, the finished dresses are shipped to the RTR warehouse where they are barcoded, racked and finally, ready to rent!
Dress Diaries: A-List Invite
Tue, 2011-03-22 12:14 | by Anonymous
This Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Amanda Holloway
Rent the Runway is my savior! I had so many weddings to go to this past fall and RTR came to my rescue. I didn’t want to be seen in the same dress at each wedding but I also didn’t want to spend hundreds to look great while attending. One wedding in particular was a must and I knew that I needed to be seen in an A-list look.
The wedding took place outdoors in Charleston,
South Carolina and I was invited by the groom. As soon as I searched through the site, I knew the Tibi Strapless Flower Burst Dress was the one I needed to wear and boy was I right! The wedding was a blast and I got SO many compliments on the dress. I was so excited and was not at all ashamed to tell everyone that I had rented it off of Rent the Runway. I probably sounded like I worked for RTR, the way that I was promoting the website! As I danced the night away the only thing I could think about was parting with this wonderful dress and needing to say goodbye.

March Poetry
Tue, 2011-03-22 11:13 | by Anonymous
This poem was brought to Rent the Runway by Cherie Mok in celebration of Poetry Month.
March is Poetry Month
Last Sunday was a gloomy day,
Clouds getting in the sun’s way,
Yet we all came out to partake,
In a special shoot to illuminate.
ACE models brought on their A game,
“Hold the balloons!”Ian the photographer exclaimed,
Ready to shoot the perfect frame.
Alice wore the Temperley Mini Corry,
And together with this Judith Leiber accessory,
She looked like an elegant beauty.
Vivian had on Proenza’s Sparkle In My Eye,
She looked sweeter than a cherry pie.
No guy could pass her by without saying hi.
Kamille selected this Yigal Ever So Eve dress,
It’s so delicate everyone’s obsessed.
“Rent it for your special event and you’ll never forget!”
Elyssa is in love with the Judith Dreamweaver Clutch,
Which will definitely add a sophisticated touch,
With Rent The Runway you’ll never have to ask “how much!”
When the shoot was done we broke out the champagne,
Everyone joined in to celebrate.
If you would like to participate,

Thursday Obsession 3/17/2011
Thu, 2011-03-17 16:51 | by AnonymousIt’s almost time to get on Spring cleaning. After all that cleaning, there is almost always an urge to spruce up the place with a new rug, curtain or vase to get you in the Spring mood. We love these curtains from Anthropologie to ring in the Spring. Which is your favorite?
Stylists’ Picks: Leprechaun Love
Thu, 2011-03-17 12:36 | by AnonymousIt’s St. Patrick’s Day and our green dresses have been shipped all over the country. Our stylists have their outfits picked out for their stroll around town in full on St. Patty's Day. They’ll be hitting place to place in these looks together. What are you doing tonight?
Emily
There’s beautiful weather in NYC today, perfect for the Show Some Shoulder Dress. I have to add gold for good luck with the Gemma Redux Pyrite Rock Steady Necklace and I’m all set. Hopefully me and my RTR gang will find a pot of gold!
Rachel
I'll be sporting the Forest Ruffle Dress by Parker and Lena Bracelet by Dannijo on this St. Patty's with my RTR girls night out!
Amy
I'll be looking brighter than a pot of gold when I hit the town with my friends in my Confetti Sequins Dress by Tibi and the Gerard Yosca Helios Disc Earrings.
Alissa
I am ready to go out with the RTR girls and nothing will stop me in the Herve Leger Leaf Him Behind Dress and Ted Rossi Strut Your Stuff Cuff.
Ashley
Any occasion is an excuse for the RTR girls to get together outside of work! This St. Patty's Day, I'll be wearing the Perfect Picturesque Dress and Badgley Mischka's Dramatic Drop Earrings!
Justine
I'll be spending the St. Patrick's holiday night out with the ladies of RTR in this emerald green Corseted Bustier Sheath by Proenza and funky Elizabeth Cole Fish Earrings!
Flashback: Prom Movie Make-Over
Wed, 2011-03-16 18:10 | by AnonymousAll the prom buzz has us thinking about reliving the past. The only problem is that the dresses we once coveted are total fashion don’ts. Here’s a flashback to the movies that had the best proms and our RTR 2011 make-over to update to their fashion don’t moment. What’s your favorite prom movie?
Grease
You’re the one that I want, but not in that dress. Goody two-shoes Sandy and bad boy Danny could dance their hearts out, but if Sandy was wearing that to prom today she’d be waiting all night to be asked the big question. She’ll only be getting a “will you dance with me?” if she changed into the David Meister Ultra Gown.
Never Been Kissed
Lucky for Josie Gellar her prom had a theme that centered around famous couples throughout history. Otherwise, she’d never be able to wear that Shakespearean get-up to prom today. To avoid getting eggs thrown at her again and being called Josie Grossie, she should wear the “rufus” Bibhu Mohapatra Princess Sweetheart Gown to prom and bring Shakespeare into this century.
10 Things I Hate About You
Patrick has his work cut out for him when he wanted to win over Kat, but the dress she wore to prom needed major work too. To stay true to her defiance of traditional anything, we would put her in a black, no ruffle, no sequins and no nonsense Carlos Miele In the Navy Gown.
Mean Girls
Did Regina George really think she could show up to prom in that pink mini dress and wire frame around her head and take the crown? We weren’t impressed with Cady’s Mathletes ensemble but would have crowned her without a second thought in the Crowned Jewel Gown. Appropriate, no?
Twilight
The blue dress was a different look for Bella, but not enough to make Edward want to turn her into a vampire on prom night. He would have wanted her to spend the rest of eternity with him if she came down the stairs in the Nicole Miller Navy Sequin Gown.
Best Bets: bliss & RTR Girls' Night Package
Wed, 2011-03-16 16:11 | by AnonymousWhen you’re not grabbing drinks with the girls a typical night in the winter is staying in, watching award shows and complaining about your chapped lips. When it’s cold outside you have to moisturize, otherwise your body looks as if you’ve walked through a cloud of chalk. An office favorite to remedy the annual problem is bliss spa. Whether it’s their best of Skintensions Moisturizer or Blissage 75 with extra body butter, it never fails.
Better yet, we couldn't contain our love for bliss and partnered up with them to offer you plus one a Girls’ Night Package! Get your bliss on with a bliss gift card, Youth as We Know It gift bags and looks from RTR to wear out together after you’ve been pampered. After all, there’s no better way to tackle your problems and celebrate the good times than with the best of company.

RTR Style Spotlight: Emma Watson
Wed, 2011-03-16 14:32 | by AnonymousShe just filmed her first Lancôme commercial as the face of their new skin care line, has wooed us in Burberry campaigns, temporarily dropped out of Brown University and has her own Harry Potter empire… you guessed it! Emma Watson is under our Style Spotlight this week. This week we’re celebrating her fashion statements editorial style, using only looks shot for print. Plus, it’s the only way we know Emma- in full on photo shoot ready appearance. Which is your favorite Emma look?
Properly Edgy
Emma is always on trend but stays true to classic silhouettes. How does she do it? She always has extra fun with one piece in her outfit, whether it’s the accessories or trend trench. Edge up the Lela Rose Perfectly Proper Dress and Dannijo Anya Cuff with a pair of lace fingerless gloves to get this look.
Heavenly Sweet
This look is what our fashion sweet tooth craves. The soft colors and hair in beach waves makes it seem as if she just woke up that heavenly. Get to your next event in the Nina Ricci Pink Clouds Dress and Rosette Stud Earrings to look this heaven sent.
LFD
This is an LBD, but we’re changing it to LFD- little fun dress. This DVF Dark Roses Dress is absolutely a cocktail party must. You can even wear it now with tights like Emma or without, adding some powerful finger jewels with the Erickson Beamon Heart of Glass Ring.
Ready in Red
Emma is ready to take over the screen, red carpet and best dressed list in this red number. If you’re ready to take on all of those as well, do it in the Tiered Tulip Dress and Kara Ross Fresh Floral Dress.
Shiny Chic
This belted look defines a waist and a moment. Don’t be camera shy and have all eyes on you in the Like Honey Dress and Judith Leiber Pop the Cork Clutch. We promise you won’t regret to shine.
Dress Diaries: Celebrity Cook-off Challenge
Tue, 2011-03-15 16:17 | by AnonymousThis Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Julie Chang
As an entertainment reporter with Fox 5, I’ve covered Rent the Runway in the past with and have always loved their idea. It wasn’t until I was in a last minute jam that I truly understood their value.
I was invited to participate in a celebrity cook off. The winner’s party was coming up, hosted by Aaron Eckhart at the Smyth Hotel. As I had been searching for what to wear for days and wasn’t excited about anything, I realized that the real challenge of the event wasn’t the food- it was my outfit! Since I’m always on camera and I knew I would be filmed there too, I couldn’t wear something I already had but wanted to look great. I also didn’t have all the time in the world to search all over New York City- what girl does? That’s when a light bulb went off and I remembered RTR!
I got online and started searching. I had my heart set on wearing the Preen Plaza Dress for the event- red is always great on camera and asymmetrical necklines are a flattering cut for me. Several clicks later my dress was booked and my headache was gone. I got so many compliments and love how the pictures look. It was exactly what I needed and am sure I’ll be renting again soon!
Click here for coverage from the party- thanks RTR!
Style Me: Cover Ready
Tue, 2011-03-15 15:33 | by AnonymousThere is still a little thrill of getting your magazine in the mail even though you’ve heard most of the news in blogs, through friends or some other type of medium. The editorials still get us excited and take us away to a new destination with each flip of the page. Here are a few of our favorite covers this month and how you can get cover ready (and worthy) without paying the cover hefty price.
Gwen Stefani, Elle UK
Neutrals are in and Gwen Stefani pulls them off beautifully with her red stained lips, platinum hair and tousled tresses. Wear Elle in UK style with the Camilla and Marc Pretty Peplum Dress.
Scarlett Johansson, Vogue China
Some of our favorite covers have come from Vogue in China and this one was no different. Scar-Jo plays off the rough femininity of this look effortlessly. Get your smoky eye on, add some tough jewels and wear this little LaROK Lovely in Lace Dress to strut in the same juxtaposition.
Zooey Deschanel, Lucky US
500 Days of Summer are painless in ruffles and polka dots. Try the Thread Social Right on the Dot Dress to look this Lucky in Spring.
Amanda Seyfried, Elle US
This Prada dress has been stealing everyone’s fashionable heart, and it’s already sold out everywhere. If you’re waiting until you can splurge on it or want some color now, we suggest the Herve Leger Sedona Sunrise dress to get your color blocking on.
Thanks to the magazine publications that lent us their images!
10 Things We Love 3.14.2011
Mon, 2011-03-14 16:55 | by Anonymous
1 Nanette Lepore on RTR!
We are pretty much obsessed with the newest designer to join the Rent the Runway collection, Nanette Lepore. Welcome!
2 Floral Friends
Mikkel is in love with the flowers springing up- in person and in stores!
3 Flats, Flats, Flats
The weather finally warmed up enough to wear flats this weekend! Christina roamed the streets of NYC in her new Melissa Vivienne Westwood flats and Ashelyn purchased a brand new pair of Miu Miu's for Spring and wore them out of the store.
4 Book of Mormon
Raunchy and hilarious show Jenn saw opening week written by creators of South Park, with an expected biting commentary on sex and religion in today's society. It's clearly not a show she'd recommend for a Salt Lake City audience (unless you've got quite a sense of humor!) but the NYC liberals loved it.
5 Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea officially moves outdoors April 1st! This summer it's not only going to be in Fort Green on Saturdays but also on the Williamsburg water front on Sundays and we can't wait to stop by and shop.
6 Glenn Ligon at the Whitney Museum
After seeing this provocative exhibit at the Whitney this weekend, Chondita's not surprised why President Obama chose pieces by Glenn Ligon for the White House living room. Wow!
7 Tokujin Yoshioka
Inspiring sketches by this artist makes us want to redecorate our apartments!
8 Spring Fling Bags
After seeing our Best Bets Spring handbag edition (click here), Lauren got to working on her own list. She's head over heels for the Madewell Dusty Roads Messenger bag. It's not quite the PS1 but it will still do!
9 Missoni Clogs
If there is a funky pair of shoes that are on our wishlist this Spring, it's totally these Missoni clogs.
10 Orchid Show
The Orchid Show at the Botanical Gardens was absolutely amazing this weekend. This is one of our favorite orchids that you can see if you visit by April 25!
Happy Pi Day!
Mon, 2011-03-14 15:13 | by AnonymousToday you have a reason to eat all the pie you want in celebration of Pi Day- 3.14! It’s not the first thing you may have thought about when you woke up this morning but for those math enthusiasts out there we’re pretty sure you had a ball eating pie for breakfast today. If you still don’t know what we’re talking about, pi is the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle; approximately equal to 3.14159265358979323846... or 3.14, which just happens to be today’s date!
We will find any excuse to celebrate something at RTR and will be doing so today apple pie. What’s on your mental menu today?

His bridal collection has 12 pieces to date and they are each more breath taking than the one before. [FabSugar] The Macy’s collaboration came as a surprise for everyone. The capsule collection will debut April 13 and will have 30 pieces. Will you be flocking to Macy’s to get your hands on the collection? [StyleCaster]

Stylists’ Picks: Prom All Over Again
Fri, 2011-03-11 16:29 | by AnonymousOnce our prom look book was on the site, we’ve had multiple “what if” conversations. What if you could do prom all over again? What would you wear? Each of our stylists had already dreamt up their favorite looks and of course were recommending them to prom-goers everywhere. These are their favorite looks if they were attending prom for Class of 2011.
Alissa
I would do a standout color, like this Catherine Malandrino dress. I’d pair it with the A Little Nautical Cuff and Gold Crystal Hoop Earrings to give it a beachy feel. Can’t help but make it California Cool.
Justine
I'd keep it simple for prom this time around in the Black Tuxtini Dress. I'd style my hair down in long loose curls with the Erickson Beamon Chain Gang Earrings and carry the Pop the Cork Clutch for a relaxed, rocker vibe.
Amy
I'd be pretty in pink in the Powder Twist Gown by D&G. I'd wear my hair in a loose chignon and I'd be decked out in the Luminosity Pearl Earrings by Badgley Mischka and the Pearl and Crystal Ring by Lee Angel.
Emily
If I could go to prom all over again, I would be on the dance floor all night in the Orange Slice Gown. The bright orange is playful while the silhouette is classic - you get the best of both worlds! To keep the focus on the dress, I’d add the Metallic Chain Bracelet and Gold Fortune Cookie Clutch.
Rachel
If I could do it again, I would redeem myself from my boring prom outfit and make a statement in the Gypsy Glam Gown, Jade Drop Earrings and the Princess Leia Ring. It’s punk and sophisticated all at the same time.
Style Awards: Campus Queen
Fri, 2011-03-11 11:52 | by AnonymousThis week was a competition to remember! The girls really went head to head to take the spot of our choice fashionista for the week. Last night we really weren’t sure who was going to take it home, but you all decided on Tiffany C. in the Herve Leger Papaya Bandage Dress. Congrats! She was representing RTR on the UCLA campus and doing a pretty fab job. We’re certain she’s the girl to know on campus- only insiders rock RTR!
If you have a picture that you love of yourself in RTR, send it our way! We love to see and hear how our customers are incorporating RTR in their memories. Who knows, you might see yourself on our facebook wall or blog as our choice fashionista! ShareRTR@renttherunway.com

Dress Diaries: Sharing RTR Memories
Wed, 2011-03-09 16:26 | by AnonymousWe are truly inspired by the women of Rent the Runway. They provide the most detailed feedback, best ideas for our business and are RTR enthusiasts, sharing our vision across the country. They are also trendsetters and leaders of RTR and in our Dress Diaries we have the pleasure of sharing their experiences with our community.
Before the launch of RTR Weddings, we were blown away by the number of women who took the opportunity to rent for everything leading up to her special day- from the engagement photo shoot to the rehearsal dinner and everything in between. Not only was it better for their budget, but it allowed them to have the designer experience of their dreams for the memories that count the most.
This week RTR veteran and super-renter, Lauren Cobb takes you through her wedding process and how she included us each step of the way. One of the early adapters of RTR, Lauren rented before RTR Weddings… and has continued renting since.
We hope that you enjoy these stories and that they excite and inspire you as much as they do us. If you have one to share, please send it our way to ShareRTR@renttherunway.com. There is nothing we love more than reading about your experience with us!
Love,
Jenn & Jenny
Dress Diaries: Parties to the Alter
Wed, 2011-03-09 16:26 | by AnonymousThis Dress Diary was brought to Rent the Runway by Lauren Cobb.
RTR is my obsession. I'm torn over whether I should shout it from the rooftops, or try to keep it my little secret! It is the easiest, most effortless way to guarantee a fabulous look and is an absolute must for weddings, bachelorette parties, showers, rehearsal dinners- you name it, you're covered. That’s why I chose to rent throughout my entire wedding process. I would have dressed my bridesmaid in RTR but RTR Weddings hadn’t launched yet- bummer!
For my first wedding shower, I rented the Tibi High Tea dress. It was so cute and I think, perfect for a wedding shower. I got a lot of compliments on this dress. My bridesmaid picked the Shoshanna Optical Bustier dress and looked great as well.
The second shower was a little dressier, so I went with the Mark & James by Badgley Mischka Strapless Starburst dress. This one was so fun to dress up with colorful accessories. It was light and soft and incredibly easy to wear!
The bachelorette party was at the W hotel in Dallas. Several of my girls chose RTR, and everyone looked great! My dress, I must admit, was my favorite rental to date. It was the Yigal Azrouel Very Violet Draped Dress. Gosh, what a stunning dress… I didn't want to take it off. It also photographs beautifully because of the gorgeous color. Love.
Lastly, the rehearsal dinner. I called a stylist to choose the perfect dress and she went through the inventory with me to help me find the right one. I decided on the Cynthia Vincent Metallic Mesmerizer, and there it was on my doorstep the very next day. This dress was so beautiful- and incredibly comfortable! It looked great with black tights and a shrunken blazer. I was so impressed with the level of customer service and how much she cared to help me.
I thank Rent the Runway so much for thinking of me- this service has been a dream!

RTR Style Spotlight: Kate Winslet
Wed, 2011-03-09 14:12 | by AnonymousWith the debut of her new short and platinum hair look on the cover of April’s British Vogue (see it here), we fell in love all over again with Kate Winslet, this week’s celeb of choice for our RTR Style Spotlight.
She is a joy to watch on screen- whether she’s making us laugh or cry- and has also been a joy to watch on the red carpet. Her style is simple but she stays to true to herself and is an avid follower of one cardinal fashion rule: don’t wear trends, wear what’s flattering for your body! We’ve captured Kate in her red carpet staple- the LBD. Which is your favorite look?
Bandage Bombshell
This Herve Leger dress that Kate wore hugged her in the all the right places. Instead of accessorizing on all fronts she opted to let her body do the talking and wore serious bling on her wrist. Be the bombshell at your next event in the Herve Leger Little Black Bandage Dress and Erickson Beamon Glenda Mesh Bracelet.
Dash of Glam
There is a dash of glam added to Kate’s LBD. While the glitz around the shoulder is most definitely a win, the ruching also makes it comfortable and fit for a woman with some curves. We love the Badgley Mischka Off-the-Shoulder Beaded Sheath and Chamak Silver Glitz Bangle Set to relive this look on your next red carpet event.
Unbelieva-bow in Black
Kate looks like such a lady in this look- strapless dress with a dainty necklace, hair pulled back with flirty strands left hanging and simple makeup. You can master it too in the Milly Tulip Bow Dress and Nicole Miller Star Light Star Bright Necklace.
Blue for Black
Every now and then you will want to swap the black for a color. If you plan on committing to the big switch, go all the way! Trade in the black for a blue that will make an entrance. We love Kate in this concentrated hue of blue and you can master it too in the Bold Bright Beauty Gown. Don’t bring black in at all and go for a shiny clutch like the Kara Ross Snow Queen Clutch.
Style Me: From Breakfast to Bedtime
Tue, 2011-03-08 19:38 | by AnonymousThe weather is getting warmer and the layers are peeling off. Now that you might expose your very first layer to your co-workers during your meeting and are running to happy hour with your friends after work, you need to wear something you don’t need to change out of. These are a couple of our favorite looks that you can wear from breakfast to bedtime. Which is your favorite look?
Metallic Monday
Pair this Ports 1961 dress with a blazer for the boardroom and take it off to reveal a look ready for a dinner date. Pair it with the Badgley Mischka Crystal Cluster Earrings- they are subtle enough for day and add a dash of mystery for night.
Lace in the Workplace
Wear this DVF dress on a fun Friday and slip this lace bolero over it to add a little romance. Take only what you need out of your handbag and slip it into the Judith Leiber Tuxedo bag and you’re off to that special someone’s birthday.
Belted Black
If the purple dress above is not for you, you can always do black. Add this funky belt and Fallon Collage Cuff to the See by Chloe Noir Ruffle Girl Dress and you’ve turned rocker chic. Now you’re ready to meet your friends for drinks.

1 Spotted: Stylish Dresses!
Love these delightfully dotted dresses that are right on trend.
2 Mardi Gras!
The southern belles at RTR- Abby, Blaire and Emily- have vicariously celebrated Mardi Gras through their family back home. They can't wait for Mardi Gras Tuesday!
3 L'Artusi
Best brunch place this week? Jenny's vote is for L'artusi.
4 Diary of a Madman
Geoffrey Rush in brilliant form- watching him on stage is inspiring. Now playing at BAM.
5 Armory Show
Jaime thought the Armory Show was a great way to spend a rainy Sunday in the city.
6 Shameless
Ashley B. can't get enough of Shameless. The wackier it gets the better it is- only 3 episodes left!
7 SLR NYC
Daria LOVES her aesthetician- Carole Lea Burns at Skin Laser Rejuvenation in Chelsea. She's truly a miracle worker- one month and the results are A-mazing!
8 City Center
Ashelyn was in Vegas this weekend and her favorite place was City Center- good shopping, great food and by far the prettiest on the strip in the night sky.
9 Chipotle Gets Better
Derek is loving the new gold foil wraps on Chipotle burritos!
10 DonnaDaily.com
Another one of our favorite blogs this week. We particularly enjoy the vlogs, deal of the day and Donna's favorites. Check it out here.
Friday Fashion Fun: Oscars, Queen Elizabeth & Mayhem in Paris!
Fri, 2011-03-04 14:02 | by AnonymousJudith Leiber & the Oscars
The Oscars were this Sunday and it was quite a show (check out our trend recap here). We saw RTR all over that red carpet from the girls at PopSugar interviewing all the celebs to the gorgeous women who walked the red carpet wearing designers we carry on RTR. Our favorite part was counting how many of those celebs were wearing Judith Leiber clutches. It might have been a record this year at the Oscars, because there were 16! Recognize any of them? [JudithLeiber]
Alice Temperley & the Queen of England
RTR coveted designer Alice Temperley, was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the queen herself this week. She attended the ceremony in a masculine suit but forgot to curtsey after receiving the title. She might be on her way to becoming a dame of England but she forgot her manners at home - oops! [DailyMailUK]
Paris Fashion Week Mayhem
Paris Fashion Week has commenced! We are only four days in and there has been plenty more drama than we were expecting. Between the firing of John Galliano, Natalie Portman’s announcement that she was dropping Dior and Lady Gaga making a runway appearance at the Mugler show we have twitter material for ages. We can’t wait to see what else happens.
Style Awards: Laying Down the Law
Thu, 2011-03-03 19:50 | by AnonymousThis week we’ve introduced an added bonus to our facebook chosen fashionista… being featured as our profile week throughout the entire weekend! Congrats to Lizzi M. who is the first one to be featured! Lizzi looked amazing in the Cynthia Vincent dress she wore to her law school prom. We have a feeling she will make for one very stylish lawyer.
If you have a picture wearing RTR, send it to ShareRTR@renttherunway.com and you might be featured next! Don't forget to share a bit about the event you attended so we can share your story.
Thursday Obsession 3/3/2011
Thu, 2011-03-03 17:31 | by AnonymousIf your order for Sunday brunch is an omelet and a side of toast, why not just ask for a breakfast pizza? This genius idea has been filed under the “why did I think of that?” at RTR headquarters. Host brunch at your place and see how quickly everyone will become obsessed with what their own pizza would have on it. What would yours have?
3 Ways: Mardi Gras All the Way
Thu, 2011-03-03 15:46 | by AnonymousMardi Gras is here and with so many outfit changes- luncheons, balls, parades, etc. the last thing you want is to run out of dresses. So the question is- What do I wear for three Mardi Gras events? We’ve asked our southern belles Emily and Blaire to handpick looks they’d wear to tackle on the festivities.
"Throw Me Something Mister"
That's the catch phrase you'll need to use if you want some beads! When attending the parades, we think a casual look is the way to go. We like the Shoshanna Purple Rain Dress and Rodrigo Otazu Super Sexy Cuff to dress it up. The bracelet is a mardi gras must with all the right colors to match your beads. To finish it off, add the Kenneth Jay Lane Jade Drop Earrings for a little extra sparkle.
Bourbon Street
When the sun goes down it's time to head to Bourbon Street. Keep it Mardi Gras themed in the green Herve Leger Leaf Him Behind Dress and pair it with the AV Max Glizty Glam Cuff and Azaara Gold Crystal Hoop Earrings.
The Ball
After the parades and parties the big night is here. Naturally, the ball is where you must look your best. We think the Badgley Mischka Screen Siren Gown is the “it” dress that will certainly steal the crown. Wear it with the Chamak Imperial Crystal Bangles and Badgley Mischka Dramatic Drop Earrings to finish the look and channel the Greek Gods that Mardi Gras is all about.
UGA's Oscar Party
Thu, 2011-03-03 14:11 | by Anonymous
Bringing the red carpet to Athens, GA, the Creative Consultants Rent the Runway team at UGA held a glamorous 2011 Oscar’s Viewing Party this past Sunday night. What better way to tie in Rent the Runway to a glamour girl’s heart than eyeing gorgeous must-see gowns on the big screen? Here Christine, walks us through all the festivities.
We had a great time hosting our very own Oscar viewing party on Sunday and have to share just how we made it happen.
Hosted at a beautiful sorority house, just inside the French doors was a real life red carpet for guests of our Oscars party! When fashionable guests entered the room and followed the red carpet, it lead them right to the big screen. We even had a computer station where newcomers were able to register for Rent the Runway while guests chatted and fawned over gowns on the RTR website.
On commercial breaks, we gave away fun prizes. To win, our guests had to participate in RTR games like “Name that Price”, “Guess the Price” and RTR trivia. The team even introduced the new frocks to rent for only $40, which many girls were super excited about!
Girls loved coming together to watch the Oscar’s while learning about Rent the Runway to win free goodies. My RTR team is hoping this will become an annual event and even inspire other college campuses to do the same. Afterall, who wouldn't want to know about Rent the Runway??!
Happy Renting from the UGA RTR team!
Best Bets: Put This in Your Handbag
Wed, 2011-03-02 20:13 | by AnonymousThere are certain things you can't leave home without. For some, it’s a $20 bill for the corner store that doesn’t take credit and for others it’s a short list of the phone numbers you haven’t memorized in case your phone dies. Either way, it's the little things that get you out of a mini disaster.
Since we're always looking to help you out, we’ve come up with our list of the must have items for your handbag. What can't you live without? Make sure to tell us in the comments or on facebook!
1. Double Sided Tape
You never know when a fashion mishap will happen, but when it does you want to be ready. A couple of strips of double sided tape in case of a fashion mishap is a must. It can temporarily fix an unraveled hem and faulty strap and can keep your undergarments from showing. Better yet, you can have it delivered with your rental!
2. Silk Hair Ties
Mane Message makes the best silk hair ties for when you need them. They don’t leave dents in your hair and can double as a bracelet if you want to keep it on your wrist. We like this palette the best for spring. It’s neutral but has a coral tie if you’re feeling extra springy.
3. Cynthia Rowley Band Aids
With Spring on its way and new shoes to break-in, the worst feeling ever is when you're heels start to hurt and you want to enjoy the sunshine. We love these Cynthia Rowley band aids for a quick fix before you change into your go-to flats.
RTR Style Spotlight: Mila Kunis
Wed, 2011-03-02 17:32 | by AnonymousThis red carpet season there's been one standout star: Mila Kunis. If your comments on facebook are any indication, many of you agree. She has yet to disappoint and this week we feature Mila for our RTR Style Spotlight. Her attention to detail is impeccable and her color choices are always on point. Here's our favorite looks from Mila’s collection and our picks for how to get them .
MK Look 1: “G” is for Gorgeous Gowns
This iridescent gown is made for a walk down a red carpet. We especially like the detail at the waist and the neckline. Try this look with the Yigal Azrouel Athena The Admirer Gown and Lauren Merkin clutch.
MK Look 2: Tiered and True
For a fun and flirty look like Mila’s, try the Rebecca Taylor Blue Smoked Tiered Dress and Badgley Mischka Big Bow Bracelet.
MK Look 3: Cherry Bomb
In this Christian Siriano dress she’ll have to be a member of The Runaways… everyone with a camera will need more than one shot. She made the look downtown with a crinkled blazer, smokey eyes and straight hair. Pair it with the Carlos Falchi Vanilla Latte Clutch to finish the look.
MK Look 4: Black Swan Returns
This D&G Beaded Treasure Gown makes for a great return to Mila’s deceptively bad girl black swan attitude. Pair it with a bunch of Chamak Balinese Bliss Bangles for a completely smoking look.

Ode to RTR
Tue, 2011-03-01 20:33 | by AnonymousMarch is poetry month and to kick it off we have some inspiring words from the women who rent from RTR. Have an RTR poem you'd like to share? Send them to ShareRTR@RentTheRunway.com and check our blog throughout the month to see if we feature your fashionable words!
Rent the Runway Makes Dreams Come True
There was once a time where I wondered in despair
About looking in my closet and thinking “what to wear?”
Until my best friend told me not to worry,
She knew of a secret that would get dresses to my door in a hurry.
A few clicks of a mouse and I’m in the closet of my dreams
With looks so amazing they make me want to scream.
With so many choices I don’t know what to do,
So I call an RTR stylist to get me through.

She is patient and understanding and gets me and my needs
Plus there's always a new pic on facebook newsfeeds.
When my package arrives I tweet in delight!
Then try to figure out which to wear that night
With a second size and back up dress too
I now have two options and can choose what to do.
I decide to let my sister wear my extra dress
So when we hit the town together we’ll both look our best.

Thank you Rent the Runway for helping me out
I’ve been busy spreading the word, no doubt!
With birthdays and weddings and girl nights galore
I’m sure-
I’ll be renting dresses forevermore!
Style Me: Spring Getaway
Tue, 2011-03-01 16:02 | by AnonymousMarch is here and for many that means Spring Break. Warm weather, Mai Tai's, dancing all night - definitely a trip we can get behind. Whether you're off to Cancun or just wishing you were, here are the styles we'd recommend squeezing into your suitcases.
Relax in Luxury
Relaxing may be what you are looking forward to, but when pictures will be taken you need to be ready. Why not relax in one of these dresses? There's no need to choose comfort over a photo ready outfit when you can have both.
Dance Off
If you're getting away with your girlfriends, dancing will most likely be on your to-do list. These dresses are the ones to take if you're planning on taking on the night life for your getaway.
Print Frenzy
If you’re heading out to the islands, a printed dress is what you'll need to get you in a tropical mood. These styles are easy breezy and ideal for lounging in style.
Don't forget to complete your spring break look with a Lauren Merkin clutch for your travels (only $25!) and accessories starting at $10!
