10 Things We Love 2/28/2011
Mon, 2011-02-28 18:42 | by Anonymous
1 Academy Awards
Last night's Oscars still have our conversations going. We loved the sequins, glamour and well earned awards. We've been up in arms over Cate Blanchett's look. Love or loathe? What did you think? We're undecided with half of us on either side. Check out our favorite trends here.
2 OPI Black Splatter Nail Color
Mikkel and Blaire are the number one advocates of the OPI Black Splatter nail color from the Katy Perry collection. It's a crackle finish polish and is nearly impossible to buy right now, even if you're willing to pay the normal $9 price! There are a couple bottles on Amazon and eBay upwards of $15, but your best bet is to get a mani and pedi at your nearby salon.
3 Van Cleef & Arpels Exhibit
Set in Style: The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels is now showing at the Cooper Hewitt National Museum and we reccommend that you stop by. The exhibit features one of a kind pieces by the French jewelry house that are to die for.
4 A Cryo Cuff
Jenn's boyfriend unfortunately needed to have surgery on his shoulder last Friday. Enter the the Cryo-cuff, an amazing contraption that is the high-tech version of an ice pack. You situate this on your shoulder and the ice cold water constantly flows to your shoulder from a cooler. While this clearly is the go-to-accessory post-surgery since all the pain is numbed away (alongside some TLC!), Jenn thinks it may also be effective for any serious athlete who needs some icing every once and a while.
5 New Orleans
Ashley B is lovin' New Orleans this week. She was just there for a bachlorette party and couldn't get enough of the beignets and muffalettas. Mmmmmm hmmmmm good.
6 SL Lounge
Ashelyn danced the night away this weekend at SL Lounge and was sharing the dance floor with a trio of girls wearing RTR! It's always great to see RTR in action.
7 Sunset.com
Whenever Jaimie needs a little pick me up and some sunshine- which has been a lot this past gloomy month in NYC- she heads over to Sunset.com to see how the sun-filled west coast is livin'.
8 Corsino
For Becky's continued birthday celebration, she went to Corsino and loved it. Defintely a great place to go with friends!
9 Paul Taylor Dance Company
A few of us went to see the Paul Taylor Dance Company this weekend and left wanting to star in the next show. If you haven't seen any of the performances, you have to soon! Their last day here is March 6.
10 CovetLiving.com
This is AJ's favorite blog. From interior home design to fashion inspiration, this duo's got you covered. Check it out here.
Oscar Red Carpet Recap
Mon, 2011-02-28 17:08 | by Anonymous

At last night’s Oscars, James Franco and Anne Hathaway attempted to host a "hip" show that featured fantastic films, beautiful people, and statement making fashion. As always there are some looks and trends that left their mark on the red carpet. Here's some of our faves. Who do you think was best dressed? Did you like the hosts? A lot to discuss. Tell us all in the comments and on facebook.
Dash of Drama
There was certainly a lot of drama happening on the red carpet last night and we loved every second of it. Among all of the dramatic looks we coveted Amy Adams in her short-sleeved navy blue sequined gown, jewelry designer Camila Alvarez in her voluminous black dress and Hilary Swank in head to toe Black Swan feathers.
Vintage Vixen
There were vintage touches all over the red carpet, but some celebs radiated old school glamour. Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture, the lace on Mila Kunis and the impeccable detailing of Melissa Leo’s gown made us swoon.
Oh-so-Nude
Nude fabrics covered in sequins and see through mesh made the top of our list. Hailee Steinfeld, Mandy Moore and Halle Berry made this look effortless and muse worthy.
Red Hot Red
Reds were the spotted all over the carpet and we can’t blame celebs for making it their go-to color. It’s a perfect color choice when wanting to make a statement like Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Hudson.
Thanks to our friends at Zimbio for all the pics!
Friday Fashion Fun: J & J, London, Milan, DVF & More!
Fri, 2011-02-25 15:51 | by AnonymousThis week we watched the fashion shows in the UK and Milan, Jenn and Jenny take the fashion world by storm and DVF going back to basics. We almost couldn’t keep up with all the news at our fingertips! Did we miss anything?
Jenn & Jenny Rocking the Fashion World
This week, Jenn and Jenny spoke at Karen Harvey and the Fashion Group International’s panel on entrepreneurialism and the new economic environment. They were joined by a talented crew- Opening Ceremony’s Humberto Leon and Carol Lim and Vena Cava’s Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai. Major takeaways of the discussion include innovation in the fashion industry, sources of inspiration and insight into why each of the businesses are run by groups of two.
In addition to speaking at the panel, they were also made Fast Company’s 2011 Most Influential Women in Technology list.
Click below to see the video on the panelists, read the Racked.com feature of the discussion and check out Fast Company on J&J as they continue rocking the fashion world.
Fashion Week: London and Milan
Fashion week in London has ended and Milan is in full force. Here are some of our favorite looks from Matthew Williamson, Roksanda Ilincic, D&G and Moschino on the runways abroad. Next up, Paris. Who’s show can’t you wait to see?
Thanks to our friends at Style.com for the runway images!
DVF Blast From the Past
RTR favorite, DVF, went back to the basics and launched a vintage collection. The dresses feature prints from the 70’s, when she invented the wrap dress that we all love to this day. We also just have to comment on how great she still looks. Go Diane! [StyleList]
Style Awards: Invite Us Please!
Fri, 2011-02-25 11:50 | by AnonymousOur post fashion week Style Awards were pretty phenomenal. The winner you chose this week is Alexandra, in sequins so pretty they look like they’re melting off of her. Congrats! Our favorite part was that the dress was rented to be photographed for her 21st birthday bash invite. If the invite looks this good we’re anxious to see what the party will be like. Any chance we can get an invite?
If you would like to be featured on our blog as our choice fashionista for the week, send a picture of yourself wearing RTR to ShareRTR@RentTheRunway.com. Don’t forget to tell us a little bit about what you rented for and don’t be surprised if you see your pic on our facebook page!
Jenn & Jenny Talk Oscars
Thu, 2011-02-24 16:23 | by AnonymousThe Oscars are on Sunday and our office is betting (no, really) on who will be the best dressed on the red carpet. We even kicked off our week by gifting a facebook fan an Oscar worthy look from RTR just for telling us and our super star friend Emily Giffin who they thought would be best dressed. If you haven’t already guessed, we LOVE the Oscars.
We’re all rooting for someone and in the spirit of dressing every woman, this week we switch our Stylists’ Picks with what we would dress the nominees in for the big event. Rather watch it on video? No problem! We were on Fox5NY spreading our wishes on TV, just click here to see it.
Tell us who you think will be best dressed on Sunday night in the comments and cross your fingers until the show starts. Don’t forget to check back on Monday to see our red carpet recap!
Anxiously Waiting for Sunday,
Jenn & Jenny
Natalie Portman, Best Actress in Black Swan
The Golden Globes put green back on the map and because Natalie’s almost five months pregnant (time flies!) we love this Temperley London Emerald City Gown. It will be accommodating to the baby bump and we’d complete the look with the Isharya Shattered Glass Bracelet and Miriam Haskell earrings.
Michelle Williams, Best Actress in Blue Valentine
Michelle is most fashionably known for the sophistication she brings to the red carpet. We thought the best dress for her would be the Nicole Miller Forget Me Not Gown. To up the ante on the look, we paired it with the Badgley Mischka Crystal Heaven Drop Earrings and Janis Savitt Crystal Knot Bracelet.
Amy Adams, Best Supporting Actress The Fighter
Amy can wear anything and look amazing (we can prove it to you here). To play off of the dark hues we’ve seen on the red carpet, we thought this Rebecca Taylor dress would be a hit. Plus, red tresses always look great with shades of dark blue. To complete Amy’s look, we added the Lee Angel Silver Etienne Necklace as her statement accessory and Carlos Falchi clutch- a celeb favorite.
A Further Look at Prom
Wed, 2011-02-23 18:29 | by AnonymousThe creation of our prom look book was one of the most fun projects we’ve worked on to date. We kicked things off by teaming up with our friends at Seventeen Magazine, queens of the teen scene. Next, we brought on some of the most amazing designers with dresses and jewels to die for: Badgley Mischka, Catherine Malandrino, Nicole Miller, Robert Rodriguez and Chamak.
ShoeDazzle completed our looks with prom-chic shoes and Lancôme stood ready with mascara in hand to glamify our models. The only things missing were a genius with a camera and a hair stylist extraordinaire. Enter Martin Scott Powell and Jon Reyman!
We first noticed Martin Scott Powell’s work in Vice Magazine and once we saw his fashion week coverage, we knew he was the perfect man to capture the spirit of prom – RTR style! When he agreed, we almost died inside. We almost died again, when we got the tear sheet. These were some of our favorites.
Jon Reyman, former Artistic Director of the Aveda Advance Academy in New York, is known for his incredible styling on runways worldwide. Certainly, anyone with Oscar de la Renta, Milly and Michael Kors amongst his clients could deliver the perfect updo.
The result? Success! Thanks to everyone who made the prom look book a special piece of RTR! Check it out here and let us know what you think!

RTR Style Spotlight: Amy Adams
Wed, 2011-02-23 13:16 | by AnonymousThis redhead was an RTR favorite in The Fighter and in Leap Year and has yet to disappoint on the red carpet. With all the Oscar talk in the air, we decided to shed our RTR Style Spotlight on Amy Adams. We can’t wait to see what she pulls off on Oscar night, but until then we are happy to relive the looks below over and over again. What’s your favorite Amy Adams look? Share with us in the comments!
Amy Look 1: The LWD
Amy replaces the LBD with a ubiquitous LWD (little white dress) and hits a red carpet high note. There is nothing about this look we don’t love- the suede pumps, au naturale makeup and simple earrings… pure effortless chic. Rock this look to your next event with the Preen White Storm Dress paired with Isharya Shattered Glass Earrings.
Amy Look 2: Whatever Flatters
In this look, Amy lets us know that there is a dress that works for everyone. You can try this flattering look in the Judith Leiber Lady Duchess Bag and Blurgirl Dance the Night Away Dress- and do just that! Dance your heart out, but make sure you are wearing a colored shoe to get the full effect.
Amy Look 3: Neutral & Naughty
There’s nothing boring about neutrals with this look. A deep-v, red lips and disheveled earrings make this more naughty than nice. Channel this look with the Haute Hippie Gypsy Glam Gown and Badgley Mischka Chandelier Bow Earrings. Don’t forget the bright lip and sexy red heel.

Daria loved the cookies Lara brought in for the office today. They're full of buttery goodness! Who knew a domestic goddess lay beneath those designer duds?
4 Hamptons in the Winter
Speaking of Lara, one of the things she loved this week was the Hamptons in the Winter- so pretty!
5 Four & Twenty Blackbirds
Chris had pie on his mind after tasting the deliciousness at this pie shop in Brooklyn. His favorite? Salted caramel apple pie. We've got our eyes set on this one. Can you guess the flavor?
6 The Darby
Becky was taken to this hidden gem for one of her brithday celebrations. She fell in love with the space and the vibe was perfect for a birthday. Shout out to the live band!

Ashelyn went up to the Berkshires for the long weekend and did some heavy duty vintage shopping. This was her favorite purchase... now where will it fit in her apartment?

Behind the Scenes: Prom Look Book
Tue, 2011-02-22 17:36 | by AnonymousWe teamed up with Seventeen Magazine to create the ultimate prom look book! With so many gowns and amazing accessories at RTR, we couldn’t help but want to revisit prom all over. So, we got to thinking and reached out to our friends ShoeDazzle.com to lend us a hand with the shoes for the shoot and Lancome to make our girls blush with beauty. After we styled the girls, we marvelled at how amazing our prom would have been if we were in these looks... if only this was around when we were attending prom!
Here are our favorite takes from the shoot and don’t forget to check out the prom look book here. Even if it’s not your prom time, it’s worth taking a look and reminiscing about your special night.
Photos with our male models and our RTR family that made it happen!

These were some of our favorite blogger looks. Recognize them?
Favorite Fashion Week Trends to Wear Now
Fri, 2011-02-18 11:30 | by AnonymousNew York Fashion Week Trend Report: Part 2
Fashion week is over but there’s no need to wait until Fall to get the looks that graced the runways. In this first trend recap, we gave you a sneak peek at what the runways were trending mid-fashion week. This time, we show you how you to get the look this weekend. Here are some of our favorite fall trends that you can wear now. If you missed the first trend report, catch it here. What’s your favorite?
Rock ‘N Roll Glam
Rock 'n roll never fades and for Fall 2011 it was all over the runways. Try your take on these Michael Kors and Behnaz Sarafpour looks by keeping this trend chic in these edge ready dresses by Nicole Miller, Yigal Azrouel and Robert Rodriguez Collection.
Simple = Better
Sometimes you need to get rid of all the fuss and opt for a perfectly simple dress that speaks volumes. An understated cheetah print is a must, but there’s always a place in our hearts for black, white and red all over. You can wait until Fall to get your hands on these dresses from Behnaz Sarafpour, Alice and Olivia and Prabal Gurung, or try them now in Tibi, DVF and Black Halo.
Ladylike Luxe
For some, adding a dash of lace or sparkle is a must. The fall runways offered ladylike dresses that were sweet and luxe and you can wear them now by trying one of these first class frocks by Proenza Schouler, Peter Soronen and Badgley Mischka. Note- Isaac Mizrahi poodle is not included in your rental!
Thanks to our friends Style.com for all of the runway photos!
Thursday Obsession 2/17/2011
Thu, 2011-02-17 19:07 | by AnonymousIt's obvious we are still obsessed with all that is fashion week. Today was the last day of the crainess and we are pretty sure we'll be craving it soon after. Style.com had their "Man in the Street" documenting of his favorite details of fashion week. We are obsessed with this one in particular- so chic!
Runway Fashion For $25 and Under
Thu, 2011-02-17 16:46 | by AnonymousNothing inspires the need to refresh your wardrobe more than fashion week and the quickest way to do it is with accessories. While you check out the shows for the must-have accessories of next season (our pick: Proenza Schouler's clutch), we can help you spice up your weekend look now for $25 or less.
Check out some of our amazing new accesories (Lauren Merkin clutches starting at just $25), and some of our old favorites for an affordable fashion pick-me-up.
Golden Girl
The 70's are a theme we've spotten over and over on the runways. Channel the era with these pieces for an extra touch.
Chic Clutches
Our just in Lauren Merkin clutches can cap off your weekend look for just $25.
Silver Streak
We spotted a lot of black on black in the front row, but never without something to shine. Bring a little shine into your weekend with these silver must-wears.
Stylists’ Picks: Favorite Fashion Week Moments
Thu, 2011-02-17 13:57 | by AnonymousFashion Week fun happens on and off the runway! Our stylists have been closely following fashion week's favorite moments and we’ve asked them to share their picks. Did you have a favorite? Share it with us in the comments!
Alissa: Band of Outsiders
Seeing Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Anna Wintour and Tavi Gevinson front row at the Band of Outsiders show was the ultimate crowd. If I didn’t know better, I would think they were the “Band of Outsiders.” I definitely need an invite to the Spring show!
Rachel: Brave & Barefoot
The runways must have been slippery this year and there were several models that took the plunge. It was a hard choice to make between the girls at Christian Siriano and the girls at Tibi, but the Tibi model took the cake. After trying to get up several times, she decided to take her enemy off her feet and walk down the runway barefoot. Applause!
Justine: Alexander Wang’s Housewarming Party
When I moved to New York, my housewarming party consisted of a handful of my besties, some wine and NY pizza. When Alexander Wang has a "housewarming party" for the opening of his new flagship store on Grand Street, Zoe Kravitz comes by with a few model friends and Lauryn Hill performs… by far my favorite fashion week moment.
Ashley: Blog Lovin’ Awards
All of my favorite fashion bloggers were in one place on the night of the Blog Lovin’ Awards- sorry Lincoln Center! I love that TheBlondeSalad was the Newcomer of the Year and that ManRepeller won Most Original Blog. Congrats ladies! This event could have doubled as a fashion show of it’s own.
Emily: Julia Stiles’ Bangs + James Franco
My favorite fashion week moment was realizing that the paparazzi were flashing their bulbs for 25 minutes at Julia Stiles because she got new bangs at the Cynthia Rowley show. What was even more outlandish was the trance I was in after I left the show. The music was amazing and produced by Kalup Linzy and James Franco!
Best Bets: Runway Nails
Wed, 2011-02-16 17:54 | by AnonymousRunway looks are all about the details. Teams of experts own each part of the look, from hair and make up to styling and accessories. Something that did not go unnoticed on the runways this time around was the special attention to the nail colors (and patterns!) that designers unleashed on the catwalk. Here are some of our best bets for fashionable fingers. What’s your favorite look?
Tips Only
At the Tibi show we spotted neon colored tips with a natural nail color. Would you be more willing to try that or a fall take on a French manicure with burgundy and gold, like the models at Jason Wu?
Prissy Prints
Really want to add that extra touch to your look? Opt for a printed fingernail. Tuxedo nails were the perfect addition to the androgynous Ruffian show and peacock nails stole the show at Jen Kao.
Finger Friendly
At Vena Cava, nail polish took on a different form. We’d love to see these nail bands on girls off the runway. Will you be one of them?
RTR Style Spotlight: Our Faves at NY Fashion Week
Wed, 2011-02-16 16:30 | by AnonymousIn honor of New York fashion week this RTR Style Spotlight will have all of our favorite looks from the tents… of the celebs in attendance! Keeping up with who’s who in the front row is just as important as the looks the will walk down the runway. These are our fave celeb looks from the front row. Which is yours?
Rosario Dawson at Tommy Hilfiger
Rosario rocked a little blue sequin dress to fill her front row seat at the Tommy Hilfiger show. Not only was she wearing the right amount of sparkle, but every runway model that walked by her looked just a little more beautiful. Get her front row look with the Casino Royal Dress and new Vile of Venom Clutch.
Kirsten Dunst at Rodarte
We loved Kirsten’s feminine look at the Rodarte show. Grab a pair of tights and a loose blazer, pull your hair in a chignon and steal her feminine look with this Milly dress and the Lovely Bouquet Earrings.
Double Take at Tracy Reese
Julia Stiles and Gabrielle Union were fashion week chic at the Tracy Reese show. To emulate Julia’s look, we recommend the Catherine Malandrino Midnight Ruffle Tiered Dress with the Gemma Redux Necklace. For Gabrielle's look, try the Tracy Reese Coral Floral Sheath Dress and the Radiant Crystal Crown Earrings.
New York Fashion Week Trend Report: Part 1
Wed, 2011-02-16 15:51 | by AnonymousIt’s been a busy start to Fashion Week, with some strong trends emerging before the week is even over. Here is a midweek recap of what we love so far.
Christian Siriano kicked off fashion week with an amazing collection that featured the designer’s trademark over-the-top style. It was mostly dark and mysterious with a pop of deep forest green and dusty rose. As always, there were plenty of ruffles and red-carpet worthy gowns. One of our favorite looks was this ultra dramatic full skirt dress embellished with feathers. Love!!!
Friday we found ourselves back in the groove with Rebecca Taylor’s 70’s influenced collection. Continuing this Spring’s 70’s and Yves Saint Laurent inspired trends, the Fall 2011 collections have featured bell bottoms, poet blouses and flower child dresses. We love the colors and flowing fabrics for their super feminine and chic charm.
Prabal Gurung’s Saturday show was filled with lace, leather and a pre-Valentine’s Day splash of pinks and reds. He really demonstrated his ability to mix textures and materials. We love the sweet sensibility of this collection mixed with the edgy details. We also enjoyed seeing Anna Wintour and Carolina Herrera front row…
Monday morning kicked off with Carlos Miele’s show and we were transported to his homeland of Brazil. The bright colors and floral prints practically made us forget the cold NYC winter. His collection featured another big trend for Fall: Colorblocking. Mixing bold and unusual color combinations has been one of our favorite themes this week. We loved this stunning gown that mixed blue and green.
More to come later this week! -The RTR Fashion Team

Style Me: President’s Day Weekend
Tue, 2011-02-15 18:51 | by AnonymousFashion week ends on Thursday, and a long weekend away will be the perfect end to the craziness. Whether you’re staying at home to check out all the fashion shows online or taking a mini vacation to get some sun, here are a couple of our favorite looks to enjoy the time off. What will you be wearing this long weekend?
Stay-In-Town Chic
If you’re staying in town this weekend after Valentine's Day, it’s a nice time to catch up with your girlfriends over dinner. You can dine and do a postmortem on fashion week before heading to the dance floor in the Vena Cava Playful Tiered Dress and Bling it On Necklace.
Getaway Gear
A long weekend is an excuse to get out of town. Although for many that means casual wear during the day, you’ll always need a dress for dinner. We love the pack-friendly Tibi Snow Leopard Dress and Rosette Stud Earrings.
Sunday Brunchday
Whether your home or away, brunch is a great excuse to sleep late and stuff your face so there's really no excuse for skipping it. There’s nothing better than a long brunch (with mimosas!) when there’s no work on Monday. Our picks? The Feather in the Wind dress and Art Deco Bling Pendant for a stylish and roomy brunch look.
We’ve Tumbled onto Tumblr!

10 Things We Love (Lots!) This Week
Mon, 2011-02-14 17:45 | by Lara Crystal1 New DVF
We've got a fantastic collection of gorgeous new DVF dresses. FYI, her latest collection debuted yesterday - check it out at DVF.com and become a fan of DVF on facebook for the complete show scoop.
2 Making You Our Buyer
Have you joined our style council yet? We're collecting your feedback on our facebook page to see what you like from NYFW. Lela Rose is the latest designer who's looks we're lingering on - which ones do you love?

3 Grammy Fashion
You can always expect a little craziness, and this year was no exception. We especially loved Gwyneth's statement look. For a toned down version of her pop of pink, try Isharya's Double Drouzy Earrings. (Read our full Grammy fashion recap here.)
4 Bieber Fever
One of us (cough Lara cough) went to see "Never Say Never" this weekend and the diagnosis is in: We've got Bieber fever! Two hours of spirit soaring entertainment with music, guest starts, and little girls screaming - totally uplifting and definitely worth it.

5 Gypsy Glam
Can you guess who made this gorgeous gown? Haute Hippie, indeed.
6 Beauty & Essex
This gorgeous space is apparently fashion week's home away from home - on Saturday night we spotted Christian Siriano & Vogue's Lauren Santo Domingo at separate tables.

7 Jump for Jeopardy
If you're anything like Johnny on our tech team, you might declare this "the most memorable night in Valentine's Day history". Tonight the IBM supercomputer takes on two former champions. Enjoy.
8 Our Valentines
Ashley's fiance sent a singing heart shaped gorilla to the office so he definitely made the biggest splash, but we're loving all our special someones.

9 Citrus Fresh
Surprise in a shock of orange from Robert Rodriguez.
10 Wardrobe Whisperer
We learned about the Wardrobe Whisperer from Richard, one of our most fashionable engineers. Jessica will help you clean out your closet to make room for investment pieces (while you rent the rest)!
Grammy Red Carpet Recap
Mon, 2011-02-14 13:52 | by AnonymousLast night’s Grammys were a definite must-see with talented performers that kept us on the edge of our seats. Between Cee-Lo with his back-up muppets, Dr. Dre and Eminem reuniting on the mic and Lady Gaga’s “egg-trance” there was never a dull moment. The fashion, however did not take a back seat. Here are some of our favorite red carpet statements from last night’s Grammy Awards.
Full On Ruffles
We loved the ruffles that shimmied their way on the red carpet! Nicole Kidman kept hers touching the floor, Eva Longoria preferred them framing her face and Giuliana kept them over the knee.
Legs, Legs, Legs
The dresses were long and so were the legs. We can always go for a shorter hemline and some gams. Jennifer Hudson, Kim Kardashian and Ciara made it happen.
What’s Going On?
You can always count on the Grammys for a few outrageous outfits. Some are just the right amount of crazy, and some others might want to consider a change of stylist. What did you think of Nicki Minaj, Snooki and Paramore’s Hayley Williams?
Dress Diaries: Valentine’s Day with RTR
Mon, 2011-02-14 11:39 | by Anonymous
Rent the Runway is all about Cinderella moments. Alexandra, one of our runway reps at the University of Georgia takes us through the life of her Valentine's Day rental in this Dress Diary story. Check out how she details her experience from our dream closet to hers.
Valentine’s Day calls for pulling out all of the stops, whether it’s a fun night out with the girls or a romantic date night. To celebrate the weekend, I rented the gorgeous Cecile Love earrings and Tracy Reese Lacy Wrapped Sheath.
On Friday night my girlfriends and I kicked off the evening by touring Terrapin, Athens’ own local brewery, before heading to grab dinner at a popular pizza dive. The evening was casual yet fun, so I paired the Cecile earrings with a loose grey blouse, skinny jeans and flats (left). The super-glam combination of red and pink diamond chandeliers made the entire outfit pop and definitely added that ‘wow’ factor.
Saturday night my boyfriend and I attended his fraternity date night and my aim was to blow him out of the water with a stunning outfit… the Tracy Reese dress did just that! The Lacy Wrapped Sheath was beyond flattering and hugged every curve perfectly. The Cecile earrings stood out beautifully with the texture of the fabric while the mixing of two different styles turned out to be a surprisingly great juxtaposition.
Rent The Runway made the weekend beyond fabulous! What are you wearing for Valentine's Day?
Friday Fashion Fun: Fall Fashion Week
Fri, 2011-02-11 19:25 | by AnonymousFashion week has started and we’ve been all over the tents. These are our favorite fashion week moments so far. Stay tuned for more coverage and follow us on Twitter, @RentTheRunway to get all of the latest fashion news!
Backstage at Christian Siriano
Christian Siriano’s show was full of allure and mystique with lots of see-through fabric! One of our favorite details was the use of different textures in each look. We were able to catch up with Christian backstage after the show and gushed about how much we couldn’t wait to buy from his collection for all of our RTR members. Here’s an exclusive backstage picture with Siriano himself.
90’s Glam Grunge at Vena Cava
The Vena Cava show took us back to the 90’s with the choice of music (remember Garbage and Folk Implosion?) and overall vibe of their show at Milk Studio. We especially loved the opening maxi dress complete with beanie and sparkly eyeshadow. They even created a 90’s magazine, “Zina Cava” with 90’s quotes and throw back pictures of some of our fave celebs.
Style Council
With so many looks to choose from already, we’ve decided to let our facebook fans tell us what to buy for the Fall season. Every day we will post pictures from the runway shows and all you have to do is like the pictures that you love from the runway. The more you like, the more we'll buy! Check back in the fall to see what we bought. So far, these seem to be everyone's favorite looks from the Christian Siriano show. Click here to like your faves!
Editor's Letter: Belated Kick Off to 2011
Fri, 2011-02-11 13:55 | by AnonymousThere is something in the water. I'm not typically one to believe in New Years marking new phases but 2011 thus far has been nothing short of a dream. It started off with a fantastic (and much needed) vacation to Aspen with a special someone. Lesson learned that I should leave the office more frequently because I came back to find the team feeling and acting like a genuine family.
It's funny - when you've been pushing and pushing at anything (in this case, building a business) for so long, and then you just let go a bit and look around and see that you have 44 other teammates pushing alongside you, building something out of nothing- it's quite a feeling. So in addition to working with the most talented, fun people on earth (team karaoke night and Vijay's rendition of Hollaback girl is a testament to this), the world has seemed to wake up to Rent the Runway. With this in mind, I couldn't resist sharing some of my favorite highlights of 2011 so far - and since we've been sending many a "What are Jenn and Jenny wearing this month" e-mail, below are a few photos so you can see us put those emails in action too.
1. Jenny and I were shot, styled and gussied up for Rent the Runway stories in Teen Vogue and Glamour magazines. Logistically, a magazine photoshoot entails teams of hair and makeup, stylists, photographers, photo assistants, stylist assistants and more running around. Realistically, it entails a team of magicians who are able to take two over-tired, over-partied ladies (in this case, me and Jenny) and transform us into more glamourous versions of ourselves. I have never felt more like a princess but let me tell you, being a model is hard work! Every 3rd shot, Jenny and I would have to shake it out so that we could keep up the smiling!
2. Mayor Bloomberg honored Rent the Runway in his "State of the City" address as one of the companies pushing innovation in NYC. To be honored by a personal hero who was speaking on behalf of my home and my favorite city in the world was an extremely humbling, emotional moment. Bloomberg also knew more about our business than I would have thought - details such as us sending the dress in two sizes! An official offer to Mayor Bloomberg to be our new head of Sales is imminent.
3. More than just a little bit of PR:) Between Access Hollywood, the Wall Street Journal (twice!), the New Yorker and more, I feel like we should be throwing a parade for AJ, our director of PR.
4. We won the Fashion Group International's Rising Stars in retail award. Again, amazing. Not necessarily due to the award (though that was great!) but as a testament to where we've come in just 14 months. Going from launching a new customer behavior like renting dresses to having 120 of the top designers in the world as partners has been surreal.
5. Oh yes, and meeting Rachel Zoe. She is the most glamorous pregger in the world. Get psyched for her collection - it is ah-mazing!
Stay tuned for more to come!
Love,
Jenn

Thursday Obsession 2/10/2011

Thu, 2011-02-10 14:26 | by AnonymousLast night’s Red Dress Show was right on cue for Valentine’s Day and fashion week. Best Bets: Fashionable Musts for Fashion Week
Wed, 2011-02-09 15:09 | by AnonymousFashion week starts tomorrow! We’ve been eagerly anticipating the fall collections, front row celebs and tweeting at the tents since last week. But even though it's our favorite week of the year, it’s also the most grueling. Blogging conferences start at 8AM, shows last all day and after show parties go to the early morning. Wondering what the fashionable crowd does to make it through? Here are our fashionable list of how to survive the week. What tips do you have for us?
1. Eat breakfast: Make sure you’re working on a full stomach. Days at the tents can be long and water and coffee will only take you so far.
2. Lay it out: Pick out your outfits the night before, like these lovely ladies sure do. (Derek already has his entire week planned out!)
3. Charge it: If you’re tweeting from day to night, charge your phone/laptop! There's nothing like a dead battery to kill your day.
4. Early bird: The most fashionable never stay at the after party too long. You're busy and important.
See you tomorrow!
RTR Style Spotlight: Kate Moss
Wed, 2011-02-09 12:08 | by AnonymousFashion week starts tomorrow and to kick start it the right way we’re shining our spotlight on Ms. Fashion herself, Kate Moss. We've been thinking about Ms. Moss since our friends over at Full Frontal Fashion released an awesome documentary on her complete with comments from friends like Vivienne Westwood and (of course) a recap of her fashion throughout the years. Here are our favorite all-time awesome Kate looks. What are yours?
Look 1: Fashion in the Flesh
Kate looked put together and ahead of the fashion curve in this risqué dress that could double for some high-end lingerie. You too can get her bedroom-insprired look in the All Laced Up Dress and the Million Dollar Bracelet.
Look 2: Icon Status
We couldn’t show Kate without fur, one of her personal favorites. To have your own major Moss moment, add grey (faux) fur to the Yigal Azrouel Very Violet Draped Dress and grab your Judith Leiber Tuxedo Clutch.
Look 3: Legendary Risks
Kate is known for taking risks with her fashion and everything she wears seems to start a trend. We love this black and white mini dress with the yellow clutch to add a pop of color. Take your spin on this look and wear the Missioni Speckled Mini Dress and Princess Leia Ring with yellow shoes!
Thanks to our friends at Full Frontal Fashion for the photos and check out more Kate Moss pics here!

Up for an evening at the hottest place in town? Nothing says love like a little Herve. Wear this Heartbreaker Dress with the Black Ice Bangle Set.
Destination: Unknown
Sometimes Valentine's day takes you to unexpected places. No matter where you end up, look effortless in this Catherine Malandrino number and Dannijo's Finley Earrings.
Be Mine: V-Day Gift Guide
Tue, 2011-02-08 12:20 | by AnonymousValentine’s Day is a week away and if you're anything like us, you probably haven't done any shopping for the man in your life. Besides dressing up in an Herve for your night out on the town, here are a couple of our favorite presents for your guy (+ 1 that works for everyone!).
For the Music Lover
The Anthology of Rap could be a gag gift or a bible - we'll let you decide. Other choices for the music man include a briefcase USB turntable or Paul Smith headphones.
For the High Maintenance Man
Keep your guy well-groomed with Kiehl’s Refueling Set or a Calvin Klein fragrance. Or splurge on a spa package at John Allan’s for the ultimate guy's grooming treatment.
For the One Who Has it All
I mean, he already has you but we’re pretty sure he would like to have these things too. Seal it with a kiss by gifting a custom pair of Converse sneakers, Apple TV or the Bonobos “I Frickin’ Love You” pants- they actually say that on the inside!
For Everyone!
Make a little time for everyone you love and send them one of these ultra chic Valentine’s Day ecards from Kate Spade.
10 Things We Love This Week: Bi-Coastal Edition
Mon, 2011-02-07 16:40 | by Lara CrystalWith Jenn, Jenny, and a few other team members out in Cali this week, here's our first bi-coastal edition of 10 things we love this week. What’s on your mind right now?
EAST COAST
1 New Herve Leger
A classic silhouette in two of-the-moment colors.
2 NYFW Kicks-Off!
We can't wait to head back to Lincoln Center Thursday for the start of New York Fashion Week. On tap this week are Christian Siriano, Prabal Gurung, Adam, Lela Rose, and more - and that's just before Monday! Stay tuned for full fashion week coverage on RTR Insider and make sure to follow us on facebook and twitter for up to the minute coverage.
3 Traif
Traif, which in Hebrew means "not kosher," is Lauren’s new fave brunch spot in Williamsburg. The menu includes items like bacon dulce de leche doughnuts with coffee ice cream!

This meal delivery service has several RTRers excited about lunch again!
5 Superbowl Pants
The game was fine (or better if you're a Packers fan), but as far as Derek's concerned the main event was Lea Michelle's to-the-floor hem on her gorgeous camel trousers a la Phoebe Philo. Did you like them?

WEST COAST
6 Red Medicine
Jenn, AJ, and Chondita all enjoyed the delicious food and the great vibe at this Vietnamese restaurant in Beverly Hills.
7 Grenade
Since we haven't driven a car for a while (yes, we're New Yorkers), we forgot how much fun it was to hear one song over and over and over. Right now, the song we're singing to is Bruno Mars' Grenade. Throw my hand on a blade for ya....
8 Beautiful 70 degree Weather
Thanks for rubbing it in! New York today is 40 degrees and it feels like paradise. So we're naturally already dreaming of our favorite new Spring arrivals - starting with this gorgeous white Proenza Schouler.
9 Google Land
Visiting the google complex in Palo Alto is a like a spa paradise - bikes for everyone and a fantastic juice bar!
10 Gorgeous Shoes
Even those of us not happily taking in the 70 degree weather can enjoy a brief glimpse of Spring in the form of new shoes. Olivia’s identified this Chloe slingback as one to watch while Abby has her eyes on these blue patterned stunners from Raphael Young.

Go Long
You can count on these necklaces to go the extra mile for chic.
Pre-Spring Proenza
It’s here and we can’t wait to wear it. Proenza’s pre-Spring collection is all about mixed metallics that you can wear now.
Behind the Seams: David Meister
Mon, 2011-02-07 10:50 | by AnonymousDress Master David Meister has a name synonymous with sophisticated, body-conscious, feminine dressing. He knows a woman’s body, and most importantly that one size and silhouette does not fit all. David’s day dresses are the perfect balance of sweet and sexy, and his cocktail and evening styles are all about glamour. We went behind the scenes with the designer to find out his personal style icon, how the brand is expanding, and why he loves the 80s.
What inspired your Spring 2011 collection?
Easy, effortless glamour. Simple silhouettes that are all about shape, draping and strong color. I love the play of nudes, soft metallics and white against strong bright colors.
What new silhouettes or materials did you introduce in the collection?
One sleeve cocktail dresses and gowns look great for Spring. Touches of chain detail as well. I also introduced a sheer knit devore in nude and black which is stunning.
Which part of the design process do you like the best?
I love the fact that design is a very organic process. You start with a master plan and then it grows, evolves and takes on its own personality. Often I start with a fabric and a sketch, make the muslin and then in the fitting on the model it starts to evolve into something else - something even more Interesting. As a designer you have to allow things to evolve and be open to the direction things take on during the creative process. It is also very exciting when you see the line complete and the vision has become a three dimensional reality.
How do you celebrate finishing a collection?
Martinis, martinis, martinis!!!!!! Followed by a long weekend of sleep!
How is the David Meister brand growing in 2011?
Presently the brand consists of David Meister Collection (day dresses, cocktail and evening), David Meister Signature (available at Bergdorf Goodman) and David Meister Bridal. We are currently working on and exploring other licensing opportunities which will enhance and complement the brand.
If you could sit in the front row of any designer?
I would have to go back in time for this one. One of my most favorite designers is Halston. To go back and be physically present in his Olympic Tower showroom would be BEYOND!!!! His clothes were so modern, effortless and chic. He really changed the way women dressed as well as American design. His clothes were so right not only then but are still relevant and modern today. The glamour and social milieu of the seventies and early eighties is really one of my most favorite periods.
If a girl was going to purchase her first David Meister dress, what would you want it to be?
It would definitely be a jersey cocktail dress in black or a bright color. Jersey is one of my signature fabrics. It is sexy, modern and always looks right!

Happy Chinese New Year!
Thu, 2011-02-03 17:05 | by Anonymous
It‘s the year of the Rabbit and we are ready to take it on. According to our online research, the year of the Rabbit is traditionally associated with home and family, which means 2011 should be relatively calmer than 2010. Sounds okay to us, as long as the fashion world stays as chaotic, crazy and lovely as ever. Happy New Year!
Stylists’ Picks: Front Row at NY Fashion Week
Thu, 2011-02-03 13:04 | by AnonymousNew York fashion week is coming up and our stylists have already crafted looks for many of you who will be attending. So we asked our stylists to style their dream celeb for a front row seat at any fashion show this week. Who would you dress for your favorite show and what would they be wearing?
Alissa
I would style fashion maven Blake Lively in our new super sweet Alberta Ferretti Dusty Rose Dress. However, to edge it up a little for the uber trendy Proenza Schouler show, I would pair it with a Miu Miu boyfriend blazer and complete the look with a skinny belt that cinches the waist. As for the bling, she’d have to be rocking the Badgley Mischaka Art Deco Cuff.
Ashley
I would style my favorite It girl Carey Mulligan in our new City Chic dress with the Badgley Mischka Chandelier Bow Earrings and the Aroura bracelet to sit front row at Badgley Mischka's Fall 2011 runway show.
Rachel
I would style Emmy Rossum in the Cherry On Top dress with the Azarra Gold Crystal Hoop earrings and the A Little Nautical Cuff to sit front row at Herve Leger's Spring 2011 runway. She’d definitely cause a stir!
I'd love to style the young and hip Zoe Kravitz in the sultry One Shoulder Draped dress paired with the Dreamweaver clutch and Alexander Wang booties to mingle backstage at Calvin Klein's Fall 2011 show.

Look 1: Bringin’ Sexy back
This dress absolutely brings the red carpet drama. We love the daring back and the bling on her wrist. Steal her look with the Silver Lining Gown and Chamak Black Ice Bangle Set.
Look 2: Bling Berry
Halle pulls out all the stops in this low-cut look. The dress hugs her curves just right and the big accessories make just the right impact. Pull off your bling Berry look in the Knock Em Dead Gown and Janis Savitt 4-Disk Bracelet.
Look 3: Keepin’ it Classy
Even with minimal jewelry and modest heels, Halle struts in style. Keep it classy for your next event in the Peter Soronen White Hot Sequin Dress and Judith Leiber Gimmie a Beat Clutch.

The models worked the downtown edgy looks with a side of rock star spunk. Our glam squad put on the finishing touches. Aisle Dash: Wedding Day Makeup Guide
Wed, 2011-02-02 00:51 | by Anonymous
You found THE dress! Now, all you need is the gorgeous glow to go with it. Choosing your makeup look for your special day can be a tricky task. Here are the best tips for choosing the best look for you.
1. Consider the season and time of year.
Are you having a winter wedding or a summer soiree? If it's the middle of winter, you can get away with deep plum lips and a matte powdered face. But, if you're getting married in July, you'll want to lighten your look up a bit.
2. Think about the atmosphere and feel of the venue.
Are you getting married in a ballroom or at the beach? A ballroom calls for sophistication and glamour. A bride at the beach can get away with lip gloss and bronzer.
3. Think about what look suits you on a typical night out.
Do you usually go for a bold lip or smokey eyes? If you normally choose Chapstick and lots of black mascara, go for a similar feel but bump it up a notch with a glossy lip and faux lashes. It's important that you feel comfortable as you walk down the aisle and still look like you.
4. Lastly, acknowledge your fiancé's preference.
Does your groom love when you wear red lipstick or does he think you are prettiest when you wake up in the morning au naturel? Ask him how he envisions you as you walk down the aisle to meet him. After all, your wedding day is about both of you!

Your bridesmaids are ever-so-chic and exquisitely delicate in this combination.
Or perhaps you prefer to make a bolder statement? Your bridesmaids will undoubtedly turn heads with this vibrant red rose and gloriosa bouquet, finished in a brilliant, hot pink satin ribbon. Booking Your Wedding Photographer Tip Series Week 3
Tue, 2011-02-01 23:39 | by AnonymousBrought to Rent the Runway by Christian Oth
There are so many great options in wedding photography available now to couples, and it can be almost overwhelming to know how to find the best match. As a seasoned wedding photographer and studio owner, I’ve had a lot of experience working with couples to find a photographer and style that works best for them.
For the next couple of weeks, I will be sharing my best suggestions for booking your wedding photographer in Booking Your Wedding Photographer: Tips Series by Christian Oth. Following these tips will get you one step closer to getting great photographs that you’ll be able to cherish for years to come.
Week 3: The Test of Time
Do their photographs stand the test of time? I believe a talented photographer should be able to capture beautiful photographs without using trendy processing or editing techniques in the studio that will date them down the road. These techniques applied after the fact, are often used to distract from sub-par photography. Instead, look at how the photographer is able to use natural light sources to accentuate the subject of the photographs, and their creative ability to use framing and focus to draw your eye to the subject. A great, timeless photograph should still be able to communicate the same feeling to the viewer twenty years later as it did on the wedding day.
So, always ask yourself- does this photographer’s work stand the test of time?
To see Christian’s work, book him for your wedding and learn more about him, visit ChristianOthStudio.com. Bouquets were provided by Ovando Floral and Event Design.
3 Ways: Superbowl Sunday Chic
Tue, 2011-02-01 17:12 | by AnonymousThe Superbowl is on Sunday and while it's not typically the time to flaunt your favorite fashions, there's no reason you have to sacrifice style. Whether you're a Packers or Steelers fan, or your just watching to see Lea Michele and the Black Eyed Peas rock it out, here are our picks for Superbowl Sunday style. Who will you be rooting for?
Packers Girl
Be a team player and make green your color with this Halston Heritage dress and Gold Rain Earrings. You may want to skip the face paint...
Steelers Girl
