Stylish collegiates from campuses as close as NYU and as far as UCLA came out to admire RTR jewels, enjoy cupcakes from Nana’s Dessert Kitchen, dance to DJ Sprung, devour Pop Chips, and share ideas for bringing RTR to their campus! The girls got a first peek at some of our newest styles with dresses for every campus occasion - rush events, formals, parties, and date nights. At the end, every guest took home a canvas gift bag provided by ALIOMI.

For the party:
1 Our New Rings!
2 Ocean Beach, Fire Island
Working in the fashion industry, the only thing Jenn knew of Fire Island was "The Pines" (especially given how much Derek talks about it) but at the suggestion of Becky she went to Ocean Beach this past weekend and was blown away. It's down-to-earth, charming and entirely lacks a scene - which is perfect for a relaxing summer weekend. Here’s to a new annual tradition!
3 Top Chef D.C.
Top Chef Masters really doesn’t compare, but we’re all excited to have Tom, Padma, and the rest of the crew back on the Wednesday night schedule. Now, if only we could cook!

7 Another Dream by Enrique Badulescu
In between appointments last week at Milk Studios, Derek took a quick walk through the open-to-the-public gallery at Milk. He was instantly transported to another world by the photographer Enrique Badulescu, who used hand applied techniques to create the surreal images below. If you are in NYC and have time, it is definitely worth the trip to Milk Studios at 450 West 15th St.

Even though it is summer time, scarves are an accessory that can be worn year round.
But if you’re going to wear one, definitely go with a lighter fabric scarf so you don’t die of heat.
There are so many trendy ways to wear them during these sizzling summer days - loosely around your neck, tie it around your head, or even roll it into a head band. Add a great pair of big sunnies and you are set to go walk the beach with style! -- Blaire

First thing Wednesday morning I had my Yigal Azrouël Resort 2010 appointment at their very cool showroom in the Garment District of NYC. I love to start my day at the Yigal showroom because it is such a tranquil environment. His attention to detail when designing a dress is divine, and the same goes for his ability to design interiors. The showroom features great antique furniture and vintage decorative objects like bowling pins and mirrors. In the background, classical piano music played. The dresses he showed at the appointment were gorgeous too...I especially love this navy abstract metallic jacquard dress with beaded shoulders and a leather obi belt. The rest of the collection featured beautiful draped jersey gowns and dresses with lots of pretty leather details. Until this collection arrives in November, you can tide yourself over with a dress from the Spring 2010 collection. -- Derek
Yesterday Lela Rose presented her Resort 2010 collection at her AMAZING apartment in the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City. Once I was able to take my eyes off the incredible architecture and beautiful interior design of her home, I saw some gorgeous clothes! Lela always creates a collection full of vibrant colors and juxtaposed textures, and this Resort Collection was no different. The models stood on tables in the living room and kitchen that come out of the floor and ceiling via pulleys so she can create a long table that can seat 100 guests...she LOVES to entertain. Always the perfect hostess, she even served homemade mint iced tea and macaroons. Those who know me know I have an unhealthy addiction to the latter. I was also lucky enough to be given a tour of the apartment. Enjoy the inside view! -- Derek
Models on tables
Lela’s closet...Carrie Bradshaw would be jealous!
My favorite part of the apartment...the “Stitch-evator”- a mini elevator for Lela’s Norwich terrier, Stitch. It’s shaped like a dog house!
The Council of Fashion Designers of America's annual awards ceremony took place Monday night. Practically every American designer attended, and many of them are featured on Rent the Runway. Here are some notable looks from our featured designers. Celebrate American fashion and rent one of these designers looks for your next event! -- Derek
This green Prabal Gurung dress (left, from the designer’s Fall 2010 collection) will be coming to Rent the Runway soon!
Doesn't Prabal look dapper in his tux?
Love this Rebecca Taylor gown that was inspired by her upcoming Holiday 2010 collection.
Half of the Vena Cava duo, Sophie Buhia looks so chic in her gown...I think I need to ask her to create something similar for RTR!
Whitney Port was our vote for best dressed Sunday night in her Yigal Azrouel. Other style winners in our book included Kristen Stewart in a sparkly Dolce & Gabbana , Jessica Biel in lady-like Giambattista Valli, and ScarJo in Dolce & Gabbana. Lohan – please take notes! -- Lara
For a sparkly ensemble like Kristen's, try this LaROK.
Check out our other Giambattista Valli dresses for a refined & polished look like Jessica's
For Scarlett's lacy look, try Robert Rodriguez's Lace Jumper.
The original Samantha, Rue McClanahan, passed away last week. McClanahan played the role of Blanche Deveraux, a sexy eccentric woman living in the South on the classic show the Golden Girls. McClanahan once said that Blanche “is in love with life and she loves men.” Sound like anyone you know? Imagine if she had made a cameo in one of the movies as Samantha’s mother... -- Derek
Not everyone’s on their way to the Hamptons. Jenn’s excited about weekends in the city. The only question is what to wear…Perhaps some Doo.ri?
2 Our interns
We have approximately 20 girls in our office this summer helping us make Rent the Runway even better!
3 Dress Obsessed
Don't forget, rent dresses for two occasions in June, and the third is on us! For Lara, this means 1 Rehearsal Dinner Dress, 1 Wedding Dress, and 1 Bridal Shower Dress.
4 "Proenza Cooler"
Our warehouse is HOT, HOT, HOT, and to cool it off we brought in a gelato maker (aka Proenza Cooler). The inaugural flavor is Haute Chippie, vanilla bean ice cream with crumbled chips ahoy cookies. Next up is Berry Berry Ombre (vanilla bean ice cream with strawberries and blueberries), followed by Tracy Reeses (vanilla with Reeses' peanut butter cups). What flavor should we do next? Tell us in the comments, and if we picks yours, we'll give you a $100 gift card!
5 The Hangover — Now on HBO
It’s always a pleasant surprise to find something on TV that’s laugh out loud funny. With the lull in television right now, this is a great way to pass some lazy time on the couch.
6 J Crew's Chocolate Reese Sandals
These sandals are seriously killer.
7 Summer Reading
Lara took advantage of her vacation by getting through 4 books (including the entire Millenium Trilogy) and now she’s on a summer reading kick. Any recommendations?
8 The Bachelorette
Although Ali has hopes of wearing white in the very near future, we all know that she LOVES yellow! Reserve one of Rent the Runway’s fabulous yellow dresses ASAP, in honor of Ali.

I am completely obsessed with double rings right now. It is such an awesome accessory to add to your summer attire. Wear it out to brunch or jazz up an outfit for a night out on the town with your girlfriends. Most of the rings I’ve found are super expensive, but check out these sites here and here to find the ultimate double ring. More is definitely more! -- Blaire
Rent our Gryphon Metallic Striped Chain Dress, pair it with a double ring to get the complete RTR look!
P.S. If rings are your thing, we may have something for you soon...
Christian Siriano is having more than a moment...
Since becoming the youngest winner of Project Runway in 2008, this fierce phenomenon has become a non-stop fashion force. If you spend more than a minute with him it’s easy to see why – a true artist, Christian was born to design and he’s definitely got what it takes to make it in the biz. We adore his amazing energy and fabulously bold designs, and can’t wait to see what he’ll do next. Let us know what you’d like to see him take on in the comments – we already know there’s nothing he can’t do! -- Derek & Lara
What inspired your Spring 2010 collection?
I was inspired by a few different ways of living for spring. I had this idea that my customer was traveling to the Amalfi coast in Italy and what would she wear or what would she be inspired by on her vacation? I took ideas from the Mediterranean Sea, the beach, sand, stones, water, etc. All of these things inspired the color palate and the graphic prints that were my favorite part of the collection.
The prints were taken from aerial photographs and then altered to create a more dramatic pattern. I also loved allthe blush and pink tones that came into the collection because it brought a balance to the harsh and powerful prints.
Which part of the design process do you like the best?
In the process I love choosing the fabrics and creating the prints. I think seeing the fabric as a flat canvas is the best part. I also love seeing the finished garment right off the machine; it’s always so exciting the first time I see a new style and it helps inspire other patterns and shapes for the collection that I might be missing.
How is the Christian Siriano brand growing in 2010?
It’s been such a wonderful process to see and watch the brand grow. I think this spring collection was very on trend but also very accessible so in that case it was a strong season. I was so lucky to have dressed some wonderful artists in this collection Like Rihanna and Christina Hendricks and that really helps the brand grow, even if it’s just brand exposure.
I also think the Siriano woman is becoming more apparent each season as I grow and my style develops and as a new designer I just love making fabulous clothing that hopefully people will love and want to wear. I think my customer loves fashion and loves getting dressed up.
In the next few months I will continue to create collections and grow the business with my great partner Payless and some other new exciting projects. I will also of course continue to make fun cocktail dresses and evening wear that women love to wear and must have.
If you could sit front row at a fashion show for any designer in history, who would it be and why?
Hmmm that is hard because I'm such a fan of so many brands. I think I would want to sit and view a Dior couture show, Valentino and Galliano. I think the fantasy of those shows would be stunning.
How do you celebrate finishing a collection?
I'm not sure if we ever celebrate too much It seems like we just have to move on so quickly and rush on to market week and then on the next thing. After a show I always have a party which I think every designer needs after a long day, even if it’s just with family and friends.
If a girl was going to purchase her first Christian Siriano piece, what would you want it to be?
I think the first Christian piece should have power and it should be about presence. I love when a customer is not afraid to take a chance and dress to impress. You can always buy a knit top or a great Siriano jacket but that perfect cocktail dress or dramatic gown is a must.
